This is how a crime documentary is done, with facts, actual footage and mostly with respect towards the victims.
Cosmos Runner I agree... These turbo shows, with epeleptic style that pisses us off, this is rather “Nice” to see🤚🏻😌🇺🇸🚓🕳
Usa...they put the whores in jail, and also have sympathy, some kind of hypocrisy going on
Yes!! Finally it's about the victims
Cos it's British.
Very well done. Not a freak show with horrific actors doing re enactments.
His poor wife sitting there looks so confused and broken. I feel bad for her.
Yeah, she seems like a really nice, gentle person.
She seems like a dope.
I do too. She really thought she had her hearts desire. These people however are masters at blending in. When you have no conscience and no moral compass lying doesn't matter to you. You have no guilt or shame and you won't act any differently so how the hell could she have ever known?
Agreed. I like her too. Good woman.
@@DaRyteJuan No she doesn't. She's a good person...Good people believe the best of others, they don't wake up and think I'm married to a serial killer.
The part that really hit me was Linda's father getting up to the podium to speak to the cold blooded murderer that took his young daughter. And instead of anger and outrage, that he could rightfully have..he gave Ridgway forgiveness. Forgiveness, that I'm not sure Gary deserved. But that was the most selfless gift he could give. God bless that man. I truly hope that helped him find healing from losing his daughter
Rest in Peace to all Green River victims, and peace to their families and loved ones
Agreed
Linda's father is a pussy, forgiveness is not a concept that should exist when it comes to your own family being killed for no reason. Acceptance is one thing, but to turn around and say you don't hate the man that murdered your daughter? I hope my parents get struck down if I ever get killed and that's what they have to say about the person that ended my life. It's not selfless, it's phony righteousness.
True forgiveness is to set Ridgeway free. A man who kills in a fight feels better as he feels justice has been done. What he really is doing, is putting hate behind him and moving on.

He was convicted of 49 but confessed to killing 71. Its It's hard to believe someone could get away with this for 20 years. Its shocking.
No evidence plus going under radar makes a deadly combo
Most of his murders were during a 2 year period, 1982-84
40% of murders are unsolved in the United States. That's actually A LOT of homicide victims, so there's a good chance you yourself can get away with murder. Real-life is not CSI or any detective show. If your DNA is not in a database, you're almost guaranteed to get away with murder if there are no cameras or witnesses.
@@olympia5758 What percent of that unsolved is from gang murders?
@Shun Jay in the time frame these murders took place, we didn't have DNA, and forensics like we do now. It's not rocket science. But there's ALWAYS that one dumbass who makes it racial, instead of using their common sense 🤔🤔🙄🙄

I remember taking a 'lie detector' test years ago. I recall: I paused for a moment to think about the question, and it registered as a lie. Even though I had done nothing wrong, whatever. I never forgot the experience, and later a police officer told me that polygraphs are totally useless - because 1-innocent people often do become nervous. And 2-a true psycho can calmly sit there, cool as a cucumber (but guilty as Hell)...and ace the whole thing.
It makes sense cause in the lifetime movie about this Gary passed without an issue
Exactly, they're just complete bullshit lol nobody should ever agree to even take one, fuck whatever the cops try to say about it, don't ever play into their stupid games. They know damn well those things are useless for finding out anything even remotely resembling the truth. It's insulting really.
@Nor'Beaster i think chris watts was the only case where the lie detector was effective. but to be fair, he was starting to crumble way before the polygraph was taken
...which is why polygraph isn't admissible in court
Polygraphs are junk science
I feel really bad for his wife. she seems like a really nice person.
She had first marriage was abusive one and her second marriage to Gary may reduced killing spree

Not unique to him. The others figured it out, he would've too.
Really!!!???
This episode does a good job of humanizing and respecting the victims without pulling any punches
I always find it fascinating when it's compassion from a relative of a victim that breaks a murderer.
The psychology of being unmoved by fury and condemnation but driven to tears by clemency and forgiveness from someone who has every reason to despise you is so interesting.
I think it's because condemnation and fury is all they really understand. If by past abusive parents or some other outlet that shaped their screwed up way of thinking. Forgiveness and empathy is a complete foreign entity to them. Just my take though.
I never knew Ridgeway killed an 8 month pregnant woman. So horrific.
Judith is brave to tell her story. I can’t imagine the torment she has endured by the public and the shame she has felt not knowing what a monster her husband was.
doesn't come close to john wayne gacy and ted bundy
If she is 8 month pregnant why did she get in that truck in first place unless its forced kidnap i dont think she was a prostitute , A horrific end to all prostitutes
He buried them...unlike his other victims.
Yes, that is horrific. So is the thought that a pregnant woman is out prostituting herself. Especially since her family loved her and she had no financial reason for doing that.
I view the wives if such people as victims, as well. Serial killers want to appear normal, and they do a good job at it.

Fucking crazy.
They are so shit, they seem to only solve crime by catching someone on the act or through informers and confessions. They solve crime through "good police work" in about 5 % of cases.
That man brought a serial killer to tears.. coz he made him show what empathy is all about.
I always told my son as he was growing up that "every decision we make not only effects us but everyone around us". Ridgeway and every other serial killer's crime's destroyed thousands of people....
“The cops worked really hard on this case”
At 12 mins, they told the cops this man abducted my gf, she’s possibly in that house right there....
Cops - He said he’s alone and not a murderer and I believe him 😀😀👍👍
Yea wtf if the cops put effort in this case ex. putting undercovers on the streets, questioning other prostitutes, they would've have caught him way earlier on the act instead of using dna to catch him 15 years later. They definitely viewed this case lower bc of the city and the victims were prostitutes.
That's when u take it in your own hands and investigate
And he should've been prime suspect at that point.
Yes! Epic police fail! That riverbed should have been crawling with cops. They make Ridgeway sound cunning and smart. He had an IQ of about 70,and he lived in their backyard
He knew the cop. They went to school together so he couldn’t possibly be a killer!!
So humbling and thought provoking to see the female detective involved display such great empathy for the murdered women. Even, many years later, you hear the small changes in her voice. After personally suffering abuse as a child, it cannot be easy to choose a career which exposes you to such despicable crimes. I personally salute you Mam, for having the courage and professionalism to do your job so successfully and with such care and kindness. A thoughtful and well paced documentary. All the contributors add but never detract from the subject, and how refreshing not to have every detail repeated every 5 minutes by Octomus Prime sound alike.
I rather want a cold and heartless detective that is effective in catching the killer. Just like in any profession, results matter.
Also, she is idiotic for saying it's a "decision". Everyone always makes the only decision that is available for them, it might not be best for them but for themselves, it's the only option. Of course idiots will keep repeating anecdotes about "free will".

randal gibbons people react differently from hate compared to love . This guy showed love and forgiveness instead of calling him names . I am sure he wasn’t expecting it and caught him off guard
Luna Cally just more evidence of how much more powerful love is than hate.
Gary reacted that why cause a man of God showed him forgiveness Just like Jesus did on the cross so we could have eternal life. Gary in that moment God touched Garys heart. Jesus never hurt anyone on this planet yet he suffered for all of us.
Bollocks - you know why Ridgeway broke down when that guy forgave him? Because Gary is a Narcissistic Psychopath. In his world it’s all about Gary. And by forgiving him - that fool found a way to make that trial - in Gary’s mind at least - to be about HIM for at least a minute or two. He wasn’t crying out of gratitude or any other generous impulse. Gary was feeling sorry for nobody but himself - because he got caught - and by forgiving him that schmuck actually appeared - in Ridgeway’s mind at least - to be showing sympathy for HIM.
Dude looks like my neighbor, not gonna let him borrow my ladder no more.
Too funny 🤣
Lmaoooo
😂😂😂😂whaaat
Real talk tho
If he asks to borrow a shovel, call the cops
So much respect for the one dad for forgiving him.
Forgiveness shall be granted for those who deserve it. not this one
' that's the guy that's been eluding us for 20 years '. Going to his door with a perfect eyewitness identifying the truck his girlfriend was abducted in a short time earlier and then simply walking away when the guy driving the truck tells the police ' wasnt Me ' , followed by the cop accepting that write off...isn't exactly a good example of elusiveness. That's incompetence at the ultimate level
I'm sorry that you were. abused when you were Hey child but I'm glad you were a detective to help catch people that were hurting others
This was bonkers. Hard to imagine the level of terror, and even harder to think he was living a normal life the entire time.
Best documentary i know. Thank you!
Condolences to all the victims and their families and friends. Justice has been served. May they all Rest In Peace.

43:39 this old man gave Ridway something he knew that he didn't deserve. Forgiveness, that´s why he cried after the bearded man spoke in court, a vicious serial killer breaking down after recognizing he got the one thing he was never supposed to have for his actions. Nobody is actually merciful for him, one strange great moment in history.
Lucky charms flag suspenders
i saw a father in court and he forgave his son's killer cuz of his religion muslim...the whole court cried...he even hugged and kissed him and the killer cried and killers mother cried her eyeballs out... even judge cried...cuz his speech on the stand was moving ...Sombat Jitmoud
It drives me nuts when cops just turn away like that (when the kid followed him and his girlfriend to his house, told the cops, and they just knocked on the door and did nothing when he TOLD them that he was the only one in the house). Why not ask if they can come in and look around??? If he says no then you know something's up. What's his face in Milwaukee that was a cannibal when one of his victims actually got away from him, was naked but couldn't speak English (he was Asian, Chinese I think), and the freaking police sent the kid back to his murderer.
It’s easy to say that in hindsight, but imagine a cop gets flagged down by some teenager who’s prostitute girlfriend is missing and he says she’s with some guy. You go to the guy’s house and he says he’s alone. He looks normal. Is your first thought, maybe he’s a serial killer or got the girl tied up in the basement? Or is your thought that the girl is cheating on her boyfriend and he’s angry? ... It’s the 70s and a cop sees some drugged out, naked, Asian kid running towards him, freaked out. Is your thought, ‘he’s being chased by a serial killer’ or ‘he’s high on drugs, paranoid, and his boyfriend is trying to get him back home’ ? Our minds just don’t think that way.. If they did, we’d be paranoid beyond belief. Every guy at night is gonna stab me, rob me, ...
@@nicholas8476 You sure as Hell do not give the kid back to a guy that is known in the neighborhood to have a REALLY bad smell coming from his apartment. And, again, YES you go the extra mile and take the kid in and/or go back to the guys apt that is trying to bring a naked teenager back to his apartment. I know hindsight is 20/20. I'm talking about the blatantly or near blatantly obvious situations when cops don't seem to care enough to go an extra yard much less mile. This isn't a case where a cop pulls over a car for a bad tail-light and doesn't know there's a body in the trunk. This is MULTIPLE RED FLAGS pointing in ONE direction and cops practically IGNORING it.
Jeffrey Dahmer.
Maxbps Luckily they learned it the hard way..these days they do go in.
Dude you're speaking of Jeffrey Dahmer.
My mom lived in Tacoma a long time ago and told me that she was approached by him to go back to a hotel. She said that she kept denying to go with him, but he was aggressively trying to get her to come with him. I’m blessed that she had the strength to get away from him. Otherwise I wouldn’t have been born. Unfortunately my mom passed away in 2017 and I wish I could have asked more about it…
I remember this happening when I was a kid, living just about 20 miles North of Seattle my whole life. I was about 7 or 8 when it all started, and before long the "Green River Killer" was a local legend we'd tell each other scary stories about around the campfire!
Many of these documentaries claim theirs is the "most prolific Serial Killer in American History," but, this one actually WAS.
If you type those words in to Google it's the first result you get back. And, it's something we've known for decades around here, where I live, no question.
Its amazing, that all these serial killers can take life, but come clean to save their own...
Bro they’re cowards preying on weak.
Wow, that father forgiveness at the end made me tear up because it was so God like. 😢
One if the best docs i have seen.
Poor victims.
His poor family
Absolutely heartbreaking so many lives completely disregarded and defiled. Everything about this tragic case is devastating from this guy's very disturbed upbringing to his vile terrible crimes. May the families loved ones and friends of all these tragic young women find peace love and all our 🙏❤️
'The perfect soil for a serial killer to grow' is such an appropriate way to say it, but at some point, a choice is made. There are so many influences in the life of each one of us, that we know when we are doing something wrong and need to cover it up.
Yes. Many choices are made.
Morality is a body part that some people don't have
Obviously law enforcement needs better tools or training
He evaded capture too long without much effort
@E Z
"Priorities"... not sure what those would be though when dozens of women are found dumped!!!
It's disgusting.
That lady cop seems to have cared though.
Exactly. They apparently didn't care because of the women's life style. There's no way they couldn't have solved this sooner.
@E Z
I hope someone criticizes your work the way you criticize this cop's work.
I'm sure that you have never made a mistake in any job you ever had...
You state "I think she looked down on them"...
Lol... you have zero evidence to support that stupid statement!!!
Your opinion is irrelevant in any case and your comment is just pointless and stupid.
You "think"... but you have no idea.
Especially when the cop explained why she felt strong emotions towards the victims...
I know a couple of cops here in Canada, they are my neighbours.
They work hard, they care about our community. They put themselves in danger, they save lives.
It is a highly stressful, dangerous profession.
Americans treat their cops like shit, but when you need them, you certainly have no qualms about dialing 911 and calling them... hypocrites...
Why don't people like you take any time to research before spouting off? The amount of effort put into this case was probably the most of any in Washington state history. They looked at over a thousand suspects. Fact of the matter is that catching someone like this can be extremely difficult, and this was before the days of ubiquitous cell phones, surveillance cameras and computer databases. A lot of the time, until a body is found, oftentimes it isn't even known that the victim had been murdered because transients often leave one area and go to another without telling anyone. Real life isn't like an episode of Law & Order where major crimes are solved in 45 minutes.
Jezza a bunch of bullshit you just typed , even the people involved acknowledge negligence. Nobody said it was easy but these guys fuckin sucked , save your excuse for the victims family.
This guy wasn’t a fuckin mastermind , far from it....
The fact that Garry Ridgeway got life sentence for killing 49 women and Eileen gets the death chair for killing 7 men seems so biased! Garry deserved the chair as well.
Depends on the state. Not all of them have the death penalty.
@@calum0123 thanks. I didn't know that about America.
Listening to Linda Rule's father forgive him just breaks my heart. Given the same situation, I don't think I would be able to have that kind of compassion and grace. What an amazing man he must have been. Truly a warrior of God
I am also a survivor of abuse 2 members of my family had done that to me .. i was an angry teen my parents didn't believe me they said i was a liar .. i had no one on my side and anyone who understood me .. i was alone. My brother used to wet the bed my mum used to place them on the line with the urine still on them and when his friends came to call she would tell his friends what he was doing .. she wasn't so nice when she was younger at times .. now my mum and dad wanted a girl and mum had an older son from her first marriage and thought she would have a girl but my brother was born and he wasn't treated as well as me but i never knew what mum used to do to him until recently .. now she has Alzheimer's so Karma in a way got mum in the end and turned her into a sweet old lady but still like her old self at times .. but my point is my brother didn't turn in to a serial killer its an excuse i never take in ..
Oppp i feel sorry for your past, im glad you sre strong for speak up
I wish you love and peace of mind.
I understood everything you said.

peace... not piece
I don't mean to offend you, but when you say that your brother isn't a serial killer, how do you know!
Serial killers have families too.
How do you make a person feel sorry when they have no empathy?
No conscience.
Douglas Barton / He’s not an empty shell of a man because if he was vacuous of emotion? He would of shed no tears in court.
Therapy, kinda. Obviously this man was beyond help but people with antisocial disorder (the so-called sociopaths) learn through therapy how to understand empathy and other “normal” feelings that they don’t feel
You don't moron
@@justsmile4883 Trump has no empathy
R.I.P. my favorite author Ann Rule. I miss your talent! 😥
Linda rule's dad (hope that's spelt right) you Sir are a Brave Brave man and brought me to tears.
Me too,, the ending bit made me cry
It may have given the victims closure to vent at him, but his expression during the whole thing is one of being completely perplexed. He really has no idea what their pain means or feels like. It really didn't affect him.
Seattleites are indeed the dullest people in the country. I'm from there and lived around the US before moving back and yeah, boring and bored, dull and plain. But I love the area, I can ignore the people, which I guess we're all kind of doing...
The one that did affect him was the Santa clause looking guy (Mr. Rule) saying he forgives him, Gary pos started crying.
@@roulettegenie4379 Psychopaths just mimic the emotions of normal people. Those were crocodile tears, & believing they were real is the exact reason women got into Bundy's VW.
@@deenibeeniable I don’t believe that. I’m from Seattle and was in the courtroom watching him during the proceedings. I actually know Ann Rule. I followed this whole thing quite closely. I wasn’t in the courtroom that particular day when Mr. Rule (no relation to Ann) said he forgave him but I watched as all the haters yelled at him and he didn’t even budge.
@@roulettegenie4379 Ann Rule is dead.
police incompetence 'from that day they should have taken more interest in him from that day she was in his truck'
he was white man they need more than clear cut evidence to investigate him.
How he can kill so many in the same area over a relatively short time period is baffling, can only be done because the police incompetence/disinterest in solving the crimes
A very good, analytical documentary!
I had to watch this over and over
This animal could have been stopped in 1984 when one of the girls went to the police. She got away from him! Still they didn't arrest him. These detectives say now how they tried so hard to find the killer. They let him operate for 20 years and treated these poor lost souls like 2nd class citizens...
Because they didn't paid to cops to guard them. That is why this serial killer didn't arrested. Azerbaijani style is more usefull. Sex workers paying to police to guard them. Actually polices guarding everyone in there if you pay enough for it. They can show killers are innocent too.
Linda Rule's father is a bigger man than any of us. To look the killer of your child in his eyes and tell him that he is forgiven takes a level of empathy that I will probably never understand in my lifetime.
❤
God this is so chilling and heart breaking to watch 😓 How could anybody do such terrible things?
I'm in tears. This is totally heartbreaking. RIP to the victims.
😂 really? Did you lose anything over these random statistical lives? I wish I had that much free time on my hands.
I’ve always thought that Gary Ridgeway was born walking on a tightrope. The things he experienced in his formative years from both parents caused him to fall off the tightrope.
That’s the first video I watched in this channel and without no reason about it, it is beyond of any documentaries I had watched in many, numerous channels throughout the RUclips. This is a masterpiece of how it supposes to be a documentary especially when we’re dealing with real families and not re-enacting or sort of thing. I have to admit that I cried out in the last 5 minutes of the video, because we may feel it, we may figure it, we even may imagine being in their shoes. but one particular thing we’ll never ever be able to fathom or measure which is the gut-wrenched pain the families had gotten through all these painful years.
💯
great episode!!
I commend you for this incredible video, I also commend the brave women who were strong enough to fight back against this beast while they knew they really had no way out. I had just heard of this monster and had to listen to a video about him and while not as “gory” or outwardly violent towards his victims, the absolute disgustingness and darkness are still heavily prevalent in this case. RIP to all of his victims
Great video
