I really hate that! A lot of us have had horrible upbringings and we don't turn out to kill people or even hurt people cause we know how horrible it feels! Saying their a sociopath or psychopath now that's a different thing cause even using certain mental illnesses as an excuse is a cop out too and insulting to those that have mental illness and are just trying to function daily. I have no idea what makes people kill others? There has to be something really sick in their mind/brains to take someone's life. I watch these shows cause it's the one thing I truly think no one understands why, even the professionals. It floors me how many sick people there are like this out there walking among us and we may know some of them personally!!! Anyone that has thoughts or can touch or kill a child is the worst of the worst! How can anyone do those things to a child? I was an abused child and I'm 40 now and I'm still trying to understand how anyone can do those things to a child? It's something that always stays with you. I always dreamt of being a mom cause first off I love kids, but second I wanted to understand how anyone can carry a child for 9 months then give birth to that child and hate that child so much and want it dead. Maybe I'm being punished for wanting a baby to figure that part out? I know I'd love my child no matter who he/she turned out to be. Why are we humans so determined to destroy each other when life is so hard already? Things get worse with every continued generation, not better. We're supposed to learn from the previous generations mistakes, not make things worse for the next. In a lot of ways I'm kinda grateful I didn't have kids.... This world is so screwed up as it is. Wouldn't be fair to bring a child into this horrible world right now.

It may not be for everyone to move so fast, but it definitely isn't something to detest and fear!
In the mid to late 80s I visited the Colherne pub a number of times as I had friends in London who used the place as their local. I never found the place to be particularly pleasant but then I've never been into S&M or the whole head to toe leather get up. The bar staff were friendly and many of the punters were okay, I just never felt I could relax. What I can say about the venue is that it was ideal for Ireland in that so many used it to pick up a fuck for the night in that transient 'I-may-never-see-you-again' kind of way. Also, back then the 'gay community' had a rather distrusting relationship with the police. And paper press media at the time, particularly a red top like The Sun, were usually somewhat scathing about homosexuality. A phone call from Ireland would not have engendered even a basic level of sympathy for gay men. At least Ireland is no longer wasting oxygen.

@Shawn Stafford Yes! It was on Serial Killer Documentaries. Very sad about the horrible abuse Bowles endured. But it doesn’t justify him becoming a murderer and/or another psychopath physically abusing his girlfriends.
@Shawn Stafford I COMPLETELY agree! I can get annoyed at my family (and I know I can annoy them). So I try & make their birthdays and Christmases special to try and erase any sad memory associated with those holidays.
Growing up we knew several kids we schooled with and parents were split. Having no Father around didn’t cause them to be whacked out criminals with desires to kill men that preferred men. I’m not sure what causes people to want to be a criminal and killer. Father’s wouldn’t read the newspaper about a killer and say, they must have had a crappy childhood with no father around.
My brother and sisters, and myself grew up with the same kind of environment , And upheaval. All we developed was care and the hope that others would find A wonderful life , because we had known the other side .

If they found a finger print at Andrew's apartment, why was this not crossed checked. The murderer had previous convictions and must have had his finger prints taken at some point. Surely a cross check would have flagged up the murderer's identity and might have saved other lives. I do remember at the time, the suggestions that the police perhaps not being that pro active about these murders because they involved members of the gay community and a attitude of "so what" among certain elements of the police force. It was not until certain pressure was put on by gay publications and gay groups that the police did up their activity to find the killer.

Well, "the gay slayer" is about the only man who can practically bore you to tears whilst relying the horrific details of a senseless, brutal murder he just committed. That is the tone of voice someone recites a grocery list in, not one in which someone tells you their murder spree began by smothering someone & burning their genitals whilst demanding cash. P.S. I think a more accurate name would have been "The Gay Slayer of other Gays" but I guess that doesn't have quite the same ring to it

I wouldnt say that. It's just that most people you meet dont murder you so it doesnt cross your mind that someone might be a murderer one day. Which most people dont get killed who are involved in the fetish
It’s a lot different now, the scene is much safer and you have people watching out for you and your back. Safety is a primary concern for many of us in the scene and most people wouldn’t play after meeting for the first.
Boy during the 90’s early 2000’s Law Enforcement around the world was incredibly unprofessional and in severe denial regarding crimes in particular deaths involving Gay Men…. As a true crime junky and naturally watching many crime detailed investigations I can say there are countless times I see that investigators absolutely FLOP by their unwillingness to except or admit to themselves Gay Men are associated with all walks of life with no immune profile. So many were simply referred to and categorized as simply “sex escapades gone wrong” while also closing the case without minimum effort of solving with traditional processes. For me the only reason the above comment has relevance is the high magnitude of examples I can think of which in reality is only a fraction of the true accurate number of cases as such

Look up the videos of James Fallon here on RUclips. He's a scientist who's done some fascinating work on it. In short, some people have genes which essentially make them psychopaths. The thing that then turns them into murderers is deep childhood trauma.
Sometimes I feel like the be reaching to make their past sound bad. Some people are honestly just insane plenty of ppl have worse childhoods and don’t become killers
The difference is genetic. People who kill like this tend to have genes which make them more violent and aggressive. It then takes childhood trauma to push them over the edge and make them murderers.

I'm a 42 year old gay man. I've had only three relationships my whole life and each time I was looking for life long love not a hookup. I was a bit of an outcast in the gay community because I only dated Catholics and I never did hookups. People thought I was a prude and maybe I am but I'm disease free and the two relationships that ended there were no hard feelings. One lasted a year, the next lasted 5 and my husband I am with now, we have been together 15 years. If you want to have a normal loving relationship you have to go at it like old time straight people did. You base it on an initial attraction, you build trust and loyalty and love will grow. Love at first sight is a child's dream and it only works one time in a million. Real love is work and commitment. Hookups get you diseased or dead.
He had quite the busy time line growing up. He started out life with a 17 year old mother who couldn't and didn't take proper care of him or raise him properly. He was never provided with a stable, loving, "normal" environment and home life growing up. Always moving from place to place. Getting evicted and moving again, only to continue the pattern. He's sent away to live in foster care while his mother has a new baby. Different "father figures" in and out of his life. Mother marries a man in 1961 and by 1965 she's divorced from him and remarried to another man. I really don't know why so many people still don't understand the importance of stability for children. The early years of a person's life are by far the most important years. These are the years when a person develops empathy and a conscious. Even though the part of the human brain that is responsible for those things isn't fully developed until about 25 years old, a child's home life ultimately have a *huge* impact on them.... something that often stays with them throughout their life (especially for those who never end up seeking professional help). Obviously as parents, we're not perfect (but really, who is? Nobody) and it's inevitable that we will make mistakes and use bad judgement at times throughout our years of raising our children (when you become a parent, you don't stop being human...and all humans are imperfect). Having said that...there are mistakes and choices his mother made that go beyond the normal mistake or bad judgement call. She continually put her son (and I'd assume any other children she had) in unhealthy situations. She failed to provide him with stability and a safe, loving home environment. She allowed different men to come into her home and live with her children without knowing much about these men. She would get married, divorced, and remarried in less than a four year period. I am in *NO WAY* excusing his actions, nor am I suggesting that because of his home life growing up, he couldn't help himself. I'm just saying that parents really need to appreciate the negative impact that this kind of home life ends up having on a person as they get older. You can't just fuck up your child's life and expect that they will turn out to be a healthy, productive, contributing member of society (of course that does happen sometimes, but it's not the "norm"). The best thing his mother could have *EVER* done for him would have been to place him for adoption at birth. She was a 17 year old child. Children raising children doesn't usually turn out good for either.
When your good friends tell you someone 'feels off', it's best to trust them. They don't have the love blinders on.

So he had a difficult upbring.. well so do many others who manage not to run around killing people and in fact rise above it and do well for themselves.
Those that rise above it usually have some access to support, help etc. They have a mitigating factor, like an adult who acted in loco parentis, or parent substitutes. Rolemodels are so important to kids from broken homes.
It's an explanation, not an excuse. Most serial killers have a combination of genetic predisposition or head trauma and a problematic upbringing.
Haha I said the same thing when they kept saying that over and over I was so what so have many others that never gone out and killed people.

I used to drink in the Coleherne in the early 90s. It was just a meat market. It had a square bar in the middle, and subjects would ply themselves as they stood up against the interior walls as customers wondered round judging you up. No tables, just dumb waiters. Horrible place !
Actually I loved the Coleherne thanks always haters like you who don’t !!!
@@AQUAFONIC Err, do you actually know what a 'dumb waiter' is ?
Shut up gay boy

That someone would "aspire" to be a serial killer, says a lot about the whole society.
I hate people that have goals too.
How can you kill a cat?
I'm glad he got punished.
I'm done. This whole thing is deplorable.
This is the best documentary yes on Colin .
29:25 I don't think most people have the f**ked up imagination to be able to picture that scene.
i did sadly.
His interview was chilling. He talked so matter-of-factly about murdering five human beings, as if they weren't important.
true but they see victims as objects so they don't care at all
I thought that also.
I have seen dead people but I think if I saw that scene with the cat I would be on drink and drugs 24/7.
To be fair, a plastic bag over your head with poppers wearing a Batman suit is a quiet night in for us gays 💀
