I really needed to watch this video. Im beginner, like 6 months fishing and I just knew one way to fish by using prawns. Thanks for this amazing improvement in my life.
Glad it was helpful! Many anglers get stuck in the trap of using the same method over and over again. Having a few different ways to target fish can be really handy. Also catching fish with plastics is addictive. Good luck out there, hope these tips continue to help.
@@fishingmad I will! I just want to know the good places to land based fishing in Sydney because I dont have a boat but Ill try deep watter as circular quay areas. This is the best channel ever. I learn english (because you speak a very clearly aussie accent) and learn new trickies. Thanks a lot from your follower from brazil. Im sharing this video with my mates.
That's awesome, thank you for sharing !! Supposed to be lots of good land based fishing spots around Sydney. Unfortunately I'm in Melbourne so cant recommend any spots to try.
Just getting my first rod for Christmas and I’ve been watching you recently. You’re helping out a lot with these great videos. Just wanted to ask what reel I should be looking for to use all round.
That's great to hear Harry, Im sure you will enjoy fishing with your new rod. Have a look at this article i wrote which should help fishingmad.com.au/review/best-spinning-reels-2022 depending on your budget you can look at reels like a Daiwa Aird 2500, Daiwa Exceller 2500, Shimano Nasci 2500 or a Shimano Vanford 2500. All very good options in price order. Lots of gear guides and helpful stuff like that in our members area to which might be helpful as your starting fishingmad.com.au/member hope that helps
Thanks got a new fishing kit for Christmas with a new tackle box with the starter things and a bucket for fish and came with knifes for bait and fillets, any way is there a video on how to set up your rods for fishing that would be nice anyway thank you I got a flathead with your layout and just thanks really!
Hey mate been goin after flathead eagerly the last few months and have landed way too many, some in the 70s and 60s.. but my last 3 sessions I have been dropping so many fish. I record on gopro so I went back and checked to see if I was doing something differently when reeling in and to be honest it all looks the same.. Even the fish i've recently landed. the hook just easily pops out. My mate recommends loosing up the drag but then I feel like there will be a lack of tension.. is my hook set not hard enough? I've been using the berkley jigheads but maybe switching to the tt finesse hooks might penetrate the fishes mouth better. Lost an abseloute monster this morning, hook just popped right out under the kayak. Frustrating times haha!
Question so i saw the s factor on the cutting board, is that the scent you use or whats the go with making then take the plastic?. I never managed to catch one and only ever got 1 snook on a hardbody im not good with it and never catch anything. I have a heap of lures in my bag it just doesnt seem to work bare without any scents
Drifting, always drifting. helps you to cover ground and mark waypoints when you catch. This vid might be helpful ruclips.net/video/BZ7B2PctbhA/видео.html cheers
I newer see you bait fishing why i know why becouse eazy fishin with soft plastic please do bait fishing we want a see you bait fishing even your tv show soft plastick
Love the Vanford. At the same time I bought a Sol3 and a Luvias and i keep using the Vanford. The drag on it is amazing. So good for light inshore fishing and freshwater fishing. I wasnt sure at first but its really grown on me.
Thanks I really appreciate the kind words. That day by far best performer was the savage gear 8cm pro grub followed by the Berkley turtleback worm and we also got a few on the ziptail worm. If your local maybe we can arrange a catch-up or fishing session.
Bugger that's not good to hear, perhaps it was just the area that you were fishing, or the tides. locally here in Port Phillip Bay those strategies work a treat.
I've always had the best results with s-factor. Its cheap and easy to carry around and the fish seem to love it. Other good options too like the procure shrimp and inshore stuff.
A lot of it has to do with the time of year, in the warmer months many of the areas in PPB have so many active flathead and you can catch them in big numbers on the drift. Its tougher now with the colder conditions. The rig will work perfectly in the right conditions.
Hi Matthew, Yeah I'm sure it seems that way but I work a full time job, and also look after a couple of kids with special needs. I go to pretty extreme lengths every week to find the time to make content. Really wish I had more time to dedicate to fishing and the channel. Wish we all had a bit more time to go fishing.
Thanks Matthew, that's so nice of you to say. One day id love to grow FishingMad to the point where i could write and create content around fishing for a living and really follow my passion. Thats the dream and ill work extremely hard to peruse that which is a long way away. Have a great weekend.
Yeah I also find plastics more effective than baits in certain situations and this is one of them. Its also more fun catching with plastics as you feel all of the hits
Thats right LOL. 100% one of my fav eating fish. Must say redfin is probably up there to now after our camping banquet. The big snapper i caught the other day to was amazing
Great video, you seemed to be getting a few with the other rods in the holder, is the lure just bouncing off the bottom as you drift or rigged differently, cheers
Thank you. Yeah often I will have the 2nd rod out ( which i call the sleeper ) with the same soft plastic rigged up and it just drifts along on its own and it will get many catches too. I also use this method sometimes with a bait drifting along whilst I work plastics.
The same strategies shown in this vid still apply and work well. Do you know if people usually catch flathead in that area. In weedy areas around those depths are usually awesome grounds for pinky snapper and whiting.
@@fishingmad I’d love to catch snapper it’s a dream to catch a 40cm snapper I know that’s average in Queensland but we always catch like tiny 18cm shit any advice on how to target snapper
Nah its still closed off. Its such a sad situation, as it was a great land based fishing spot. Especially when you consider the only pier between port melb and geelong accessible for people is Altona which is always packed with swimmers and walkers. There isnt enough land based infrastructure on this side of town for fishos like us. It was closed aparently due to fishing lines getting tangled with the boats and yachts that pay to be there, the litter, some threats to security guards patroling the areas. Apparently one was threateend at knife point. And the clincher was a law suit when a lady fell and did her leg.
@@fishingmad ah well, it does make sense. Would of been good if they concreted it and fenced off the marina side. You’d have more people there, you could have more shops down there to make money, poor planning. Big Snapper, Mulloway and flatties in there. The boats drive past em on the way out haha
I agree poor planning and a real lost opportunity. Would have made the place buzz to have a designated area for land base fishing. I saw some amazing fish pulled from that spot to.
With flatly tails currently costing $50/kg, well worth targeting them.
100% agreed the price of the humble flathead is crazy these days. Easy to catch, easy to cook and delicious

Yeah, his a legend. The fish whisperer.
You make it look so easy! I would have impaled myself on those hooks, not to mention about 10 stitches later in my hand...😂
LOL, loving the comments Vinh. keep em coming
Bacis question mate, what knot are to tying to the jig head?
Hi John, most knots to the jighead/hook we just use a uni knot. Lots of vids in our members area on rigs, knots and line/leader setups.

Not a big fan of just littering fish on the ground.

Another great vid Al. Just out from Altona?
Just out from Werribee boat ramp and straight to 6 meters deep. easy as and very productive grounds

Thanks Darren, yeah we need to get you out with me on a session just with plastics.
That looks so easy i think i might go out and try it for myself
Awesome, glad to hear it. Good luck out there, its a great form of fishing
Probably just the spot u found no matter how much I spend on making the same type of rig I won’t get that much luck
