Thanks Darren, yeah the land base fish are really special. So relatable to all anglers, and land based sometime requires big hours, its very rewarding catching a few land based with plastics. One of my fav forms of fishing 100%
Usually St Kilda Pier, but tomorrow I’m going to that spot you fished at in Lorimer St. It doesn’t worry me that much, but catching a fish now and the would be nice… I always use 1/8 jighead with a Zman Motor Oil 21/2 inch grub. That worm you used at Queenscliff looks interesting. Anyway, thanks for your interest.
Good luck Eddie i hope you get a few. Just a quick tip ive always done better with bait at Lorimar street so might be worth taking an additional rod, as its quite snaggy with the soft plastics. When the pinkies are on there it can go crazy, espcially with baits like raw chicken. Cheers
Alan, So I went to Lorimer St, did what you suggested and caught a nice pinkie and bream. Thanks. Happiness. I noticed some other blokes casting into the channel. Being newly inspired, I wonder whether you have any views on what rod, reel and line one should get to cast those bigger distances? I don’t mind buying quality equipment…
Thanks Pete and Happy New Year to you aswell. Yeah always some tense moments in the structure especially with the trevally who punch well above their weight.
Thanks John, yeah it sure was a lot of fun. I met some really nice people and was able to share some tips and gear with a few newbies down there. Thanks for watching and have a great evening.
First of all Alan, Happy New Year, hopefully a much less stressful year and more time on the water. That was different to your normal session, i haven't fished of a Jetty or similar since i was a kid catching gar and butter bream, Brings back memories. I remember loosing a lot of fish trying to bring them up, always a challenge with light gear. You had fun with some nice catchers. Enjoyed it mate.
Thanks John and Happy New Year to you. Yeah really trying to continually mix up the content on the channel especially now with FishingMad being aired on TV its great to show stuff like this which really is relatable for so many people and does bring back memories for so many. Fishing on your local jetty or pier targeting bread and butter species. Im really glad that you enjoyed it.
The way the tide rips through there is nuts, I've driven out through there in the boat mid tide and the first time I went I was shocked how hard it rips through there. Had some revs on the motor to just get moving
@@fishingmad mate when that happens the first thing you do is throw the anchor, don't even bother trying to get it going again. Especially if in close to hazards like rocks etc. We used to troll the headlands around Sydney and that was #1 rule in those scenarios, we never had to do it thankfully but a mate of ours on another boat did. Saved the boat and they were 20 metres from the rocks.
I was onto a patch of 45-49cm pinkies off Werribee and run out of then the other day, I put my munroes Curtail worms in the pack with the leftover scent in there, cleaned up.
Thanks David, thats greatly appreciated. The plastics used in this vid come pre scented so nothing used, however I generally use S-Factor as my go to scent,
Ok, maybe you can answer a question that has been puzzling me since starting fishing again a few months ago. Why do I see so many fisherman pulling in fish and then just letting them suffocate slowly on the bank or pier? I have no issues with catching to keep, but not to cause so much suffering when a quick knock on the head would despatch them quickly and more ethically. Please explain?
Also on the edge of my seat like, dude - you've just wacked it on the desk and then described the fish twice to two cameras and you're expecting it to survive if you release it??
Always keep an eye on the tides and fish an hour or so on each side of the tide change, also first and last 2 hours of daylight are usually good. Sometime best just to get out there regardless of the time and tides and give it a crack. Cheers
@@fishingmad Bro I have a question with you and that is, does sinker type and weight make a difference while saltwater bottom fishing at a rock structure under the sea and is it possible to fish using a top water or sinker lure on rock structures?
Yes 100% normal, unfortunately the vast majority of trevally have a parasite that lives in their mouth and takes over their tounge, lives there and feeds on what they eat. Its very common. Still freaks me out a tad.
I just turned up without worrying about the tides that day. With fishing usually dawn, dusk and and hour or so each side of tide change can be most productive, its quite shallow there so high tide might be favourable
Generally Heavy. I've bent a few light gauge hooks over the years and don't think I've lost to many fish by using heavier gauge. If I'm doing light or estuary fishing than i drop it way to small, thin and light jig heads
Yeah 100% agreed the plastics don't last long at all. A bite or a nibble and you need to replace. I also use the Zman 3 inch minnows a lot and usually one lasts you a whole session
Double uni knot, very easy to do. Plenty of vids on the channel and members area that shows you how to do it. Also detailed line and leader setup vids in our members area. Thanks
@@fishingmad yeah mate only got a couple hits on a soft plastic ut was way to busy I go there quite often as I live near by but it's just way to busy and over fished atm
Yeah I dont know why they have closed much of the access of. They could easily open those gates which would allow another 10 people to fish that spot. Really missed oppertunity for the area.
Really enjoyed that mate. A coupe of ripper fish that anyone would be proud of from anywhere, but especially land based.
Thanks Darren, yeah the land base fish are really special. So relatable to all anglers, and land based sometime requires big hours, its very rewarding catching a few land based with plastics. One of my fav forms of fishing 100%
Awesome session, i love watching land based vids in my area,
Glad you enjoyed it. Thanks for watching
What an awesome fisherman and also great videos. 🎣👍
I’ve been waiting for another post, and I got one, thanks for making my day
That's awesome. I hope you enjoyed it!
Ur a pro bro . Love watching ur videos I have learned so much
Thanks so much !!! Really appreciate the comment !!
I watch your videos in awe. I catch nothing. You catch consistently- in all sorts of areas. Remarkable. Very enjoyable.
Thanks Eddie, let us know where your fishing and I might be able to pass on some tips to help you catch a few too

Another nice session Al.
White knuckle stuff near that structure!
Thanks Pete and Happy New Year to you aswell. Yeah always some tense moments in the structure especially with the trevally who punch well above their weight.
I've seen some very impressive fish taken from that spot over the years.
Alan good fun fishing 🎣
You make it look fun.
Every body around you must have enjoyed it.
Thanks John, yeah it sure was a lot of fun. I met some really nice people and was able to share some tips and gear with a few newbies down there. Thanks for watching and have a great evening.
Except for the guy fishing beside him. That's why lure fisherman drive bait soakers up the wall.😁
Nice land based fishing game video

Awesome video Alan!
Thank you, Glad you enjoyed it
Hi Alan, happy new year. Nice short session well done buddy 👍 👏 👌 😀
Happy new year to you to Mario !!
The way the tide rips through there is nuts, I've driven out through there in the boat mid tide and the first time I went I was shocked how hard it rips through there. Had some revs on the motor to just get moving
Yeah its crazy strong, imagine if the motor cut out. I did that a few weeks ago at West Hastings channel as the tide was racing and panicked a tad.
@@fishingmad mate when that happens the first thing you do is throw the anchor, don't even bother trying to get it going again. Especially if in close to hazards like rocks etc.

Awesome Video Alan!!! Hope you and your family had a great new year👍
Thanks Jared, you too! Hope your having some holidays and some good fishing opportunities.
I actually haven’t been out for a fish yet but hopefully next week me and my mates are going
That's has been my go to plastic lately. you do go through them tho, that's there only down side, well that and the smell
1000% I often go through a few packs when I'm out on the boat however the seem to outfish so many other plastics.
I was onto a patch of 45-49cm pinkies off Werribee and run out of then the other day, I put my munroes Curtail worms in the pack with the leftover scent in there, cleaned up.
Wow, well done that's amazing. So good when you come across a school when they are that size. That sounds awesome.
great allan happy new year stay safe
You too Angelo, Thanks for watching
Good work mate! Let’s see my version now 😎
I caught a really nice 47cm flatty there on New Years day.
Thats awesome, well done !!
nice stuff alan, when dose a pinky become a snapper ?
about 45cms
What a great vid, I enjoyed watching that, thanks for making it Alan. What is your go-to plastics scent to use?
Thanks David, thats greatly appreciated. The plastics used in this vid come pre scented so nothing used, however I generally use S-Factor as my go to scent,
What a vid! Do you recon you could catch fish that way in QLD?
100% Isaac, its a very effective way of fishing. Use the same gear, plastics and technique and you'll catch a few good ones I'm sure of it.
@@fishingmad thanks for all your tip! They have been great 😀

By the way, which size of hook did you use for the Berkley Gulp bait?
2/0 and 3/0 think i was using either 1/6 or 1/8 weight.
@@fishingmad Bro I have a question with you and that is, does sinker type and weight make a difference while saltwater bottom fishing at a rock structure under the sea and is it possible to fish using a top water or sinker lure on rock structures?
Hi Alan, what size hook on that jig head pretty pls
1/8 weight 2/0 hook size can go upto 3/0 aswell
Where is this spot? Would love to check it out.
Nice video Alan, I’m just wondering last time I caught a trevely and it has a white bug inside the fishs mouth, is that normal?
Yes 100% normal, unfortunately the vast majority of trevally have a parasite that lives in their mouth and takes over their tounge, lives there and feeds on what they eat. Its very common. Still freaks me out a tad.

Hey mate great video. What size leader were you using?
pretty sure I was using 8lb

I just turned up without worrying about the tides that day. With fishing usually dawn, dusk and and hour or so each side of tide change can be most productive, its quite shallow there so high tide might be favourable

Generally Heavy. I've bent a few light gauge hooks over the years and don't think I've lost to many fish by using heavier gauge. If I'm doing light or estuary fishing than i drop it way to small, thin and light jig heads
My only issue with those Turtleback worms is you can go through packets of them so easily and it gets expensive, which is why I stopped using them.
Yeah 100% agreed the plastics don't last long at all. A bite or a nibble and you need to replace. I also use the Zman 3 inch minnows a lot and usually one lasts you a whole session
That area is full of puffer fish who love the turtle back. I use the Zman Grubs in motor oil colour there and bounce it off the bottom.
How do you tie your hooks?
Double uni knot, very easy to do. Plenty of vids on the channel and members area that shows you how to do it. Also detailed line and leader setup vids in our members area. Thanks

Where is the fishing etiquette of reeling in your line when another catches..

Think of the volume of people that would use that space, thousands of people visit that spot every month just because of the beaches and fishing.
Hi where is this spot please??
interesting
Was this last Wednesday
The 29th of december
Hi Andrew, pretty sure it was Sunday the 19th. Almost 2 weeks ago. A small trip up that way for work with my dad and son
Ok thanks
no probs

Nice vid but please kill the music, it adds nothing
Hey Alan hope ur doing good, I was just wandering what time do you mostly go when fishing the Yarra river?
