    Went in at Hillarys on Sunday chasing a feed of whiting with paternoster rig and squid bait. Boated herring & skippy & threw back heaps of under size pink snapper. We could see the schools of whiting and they were sucking the squid clean off the hooks and did not hook up one. On the way back in I was wondering about targeting with soft plastics and this vid came up on my feed, so good timing, thanks for the detailed vid.

    Hi Al, finally got around to picking up my rigs from Jason at Southern Edge Lures. Amazing he lives just around the corner from me. This video has been such an inspiration and demonstration to try things outside of the norm and step away from what we are traditionally comfortable with. Can't wait to give it a go and highly recommend people get in touch with Jason with the understanding he is a one-man operation so give him a some time with orders as everything is hand made. Just like yourself, his passion and knowledge for everything fishing is infectious and he is a ripper bloke at the same time. Keep up the great content mate!

      Hey Al, tried these rigs off the St. Leonard’s pier over the weekend after realising I forgot my squid jigs. Caught a heap of grass whiting and a few leather jackets so can’t wait to get out there and actually chase some KGW. Thank you for sharing this unique method for targeting whiting…plus many other species as well.

    Hi Alan
    Stinger hooks! Great idea but I had a problem buying the swimlockz. Only available in monster sizes and no good for small jigheads.
    My fix was to feed one end of a leader through the small eye on the jig head and then feed it back through the same hole. This gave you a loop on one side and two free ends on the other. I used fluro but your choice.
    Take the loop and form a simple Palomar knot over the jig head. Result is a solid knot which won't move. Take one of the free ends and tie a stinger to it and to the other end tie a loop knot or a swivel. You can have this end as long as you want.
    Most informative vids you have here Alan.
    Cheers
    Alan H

    • @fishingmad
      @fishingmad  Год назад

      Hi Al, yeah i also found the swimlockz jigheads to be way to big. That's why i had the guys at Southern edge lures custom make them for me and im also making and expiramenting with some of my own now. You can certainly experiments with the length of the stinger and positioning of the hooks and knots. I always found most consistent for catch rates was 6 to 8 cm down from the top of the jig head which also didnt seem to impact the plastics swimming action to much.

    Hi Allan. They say no run no fun for KG whiting. How do you get these down to the bottom without sinker and running tide? Fish closer to slack tide? Will certainly give it a go.

    • @fishingmad
      @fishingmad  3 месяца назад

      Yeah, that's exactly right, This technique can be very difficult in very tidal waters. I plan my day to fish an hour on each side of the slack tide in tidal waters, Thankfully where I fish in PPB there is bugger all tidal flow so you don't have to worry about that too much.

    • @fishingmad

      Occasionally you will get snagged, but getting it down to the bottom in those areas are important to catch rates. If you get snagged you can often free it by moving over the area that its stuck.

    Hi Alan, new to fishing. Can you setup the soft plastics in advance and how long to they stay good for. Just conscious that it would take me about 20 minutes on the kayak to setup with the jig etc.

    • @fishingmad
      @fishingmad  Год назад +1

      Yes you can setup everything in advance before you hit the water. The only exception is scented soft plastics like the berkley stuff as they dry up and go hard very quickly. Other brands like zmans are no problems

    • @fishingmad
      @fishingmad  2 года назад

      Its a great question. Its much more challenging in parts of West Port this technique because of the very strong currents. You either need to do this during slack tide 30 minutes each side of tide change or pick an area that's sheltered and shallow where your jig head has a chance of hitting the bottom. Get those things right and you can catch plenty with this techniques.
