do you reel quick or slowly, or do you just leave it for a bit then do a couple reels
Leave it for a bit, flathead like a decent pause

How do you tell if it’s male or female
Males do not grow over 60cm so if that size guarantee its a girl. let them go if 59+ is my rule.
i’m new to this, can you explain how to get fish (flatty’s) off the hook without a tool?
Best bet is to buy a pair of pliers, you can get em from Bunnings. If you can't get a tool you have to use your finger which I wouldn't recommend

So how is the squid ecosystem and flathead different? More sand is essential for flathead wemhereas you only need weed beds for squid?
You get flattys on bait pretty often aswell when fishing for whiting, I've caught an 81cm flatty on live yabbies.

Nicely done bud, you will find that flatty lie into the current, lazy hunters, max food min energy, so armed with this info you can tell if it was on the flood or ebb tide, full to last quarter moon, also follow the pooddy mullet season and feeding spots, follow the yabbie holes too, n weed beds
