Thank you so very much for showing us your great-aunt's home in Africa. Her work has meant so much to me; her words have been a balm on my soul for many, many years.
Such an amazing memories of my visit to Karen Blixen's Farm in Nairobi, Kenya where I've been visiting in 2002. Even I know the movie with Meryl Streep just a fiction but it is still one of my favorite movie. My dream is to visit this unbelievably beautiful place again and I know I will. For about 20 years I am out of Africa and I miss this unique continent a lot. I am on my way to make it back to South Africa, to join my family after I was retired in the US and I am so excited to this relocation. Africa is my passion, my love, my all I want to be again with my Africa, with this Spirit of Life I was missing each moment and I want to end there my Earth Way.
I was in Nairobi on holiday in 1974, drove my Landrover from Zambia, how I wish I’d known about Karen Blixen and her farm then the museum. Love the film Out of Africa.
My great grandmother always said that we are somehow related to Karen Blixen. But we havn't figured out how yet. I'm from Denmark and my name is Thea Dinesen. My mother is doing a lot of resurge on our family tree. Its very interesting to watch videos like this, so thank you for sharing
I just pulled Isak Dinesen's Last Tales off the book shelf this week to finally give it a read. She was one of my wife's favorite authors. Blixen's writing inspired her to go on safari to Kenya. Thank you for the video.
I have watched the film Out Of Africa umpteen times. The film is a poetry written on celluloid. I also read her book Out Of Africa during my Burma Holiday in 2005. Her book bear no relationship to the film. It only share the title. Then I visited her Nairobi home twice, when I went to Masai Mara, Kenya.. It was a sentimental journey for me.
I never had the chance to visit Africa & now I have no desire to travel, but the wonders of social media help in bringing places we cannot to us. Thank you so very much, I watched also a tour of the Kareb Blixen Museum In Denmark, where she is buried, I've read Out of Africa/Shadows on the Grass many times, some of her short stories, & a biography. She has such a fresh & unique understanding of human nature, & was a fascinating & complicated woman.
Thank you very much for your comment, these are what inpires us to make videos and this was a very special one. We hope your online travel brings you to many exciting places.
Wow, thank you for showing. This evoked wonderful childhood memories. I had been a fan of your grandaunt since I was a child after I stumbled upon her book, Out of Africa at the library. Said book made my imagination more vivid and it also inspired me to explore the world. Thanks once again.
Welcome to Africa again and again. Karen was widely respected here in Kenya, as you may already know. The area where she resided was named after her and now Karen is the most prestigious residence in Nairobi with land rates costing as much as 1 million dollars for an Acre. The local press would have been glad to catch wind of your visit.
So Glad you were able to visit your Great Aunt's farm. #1 FAN of the movie/ Book + other writings. Everything about @ around Karen's home...( not to mention the history) fills me w wander. You must be SO inspired. Would be a dream come true for me to visit that area.
This video brought back a lot of memories. I attended Karen Primary School. But I've never been to this particular place, though I've heard much about it. Must make a visit one day.
I would so love to visit one day and watch the film many times each year as it portrays so many beautiful things of the complex Africa I was born from and love so dearly.
Have you managed to visit Kenya so far? Would you be kind to inform me before you embark on the trip. I'm a Kenyan but I live approximately 150km East of Nairobi.
@@manasseskamau5327 Hello- sadly I live in Perth Australia and it does not seem likely I shall visit anytime soon. However it is my fervent wish to return to Africa one day. "Home is Best" - thank you for your message if I ever have my Dream fulfilled to visit Kenya I will try to message you! Go well!🕊♥️🌈🌍
What a great aunt to have, & and somewhere special to have visited for you, Out of Africa the film is simply a masterpiece along with such films as the Piano & the English Patient. My neighbour was once an elderly lady who born in India in the last days of the British Empire, her family moved to Africa, she was half blind & in a wheelchair when I remember her sitting catching the summer English sun, & would tell me tales of Africa & it would take her back, when she died her daughter said I could take an item if I wanted from her home, & I selected a wooden tea tray hand inlayed, Its just a fascinating period of History, my dream is to one day visit St Helena & the home where Napoleon spent his last days, thanks for sharing this video of Karens Bungalow
Every square inch of land on this planet has been grabbed many times. Who owns the land then? The one who grabbed it from you, or the one you grabbed it from? Commie trash all over the place.
We guess there was no room for that in the storyline of the movie. The building he stayed in during his visit is now part of a restaurant and hotel which is located next to the plantation.
You can start your own dream in Kenya . Dual citizenship is allowed and foreigners can own ranches that house wildlife. A favourite place for that nowadays is Laikipia County.
Apologies from Dinka, amazing Karen :( - in the movie it shows she sold all her possessions before leaving Kenya, how comes there are still possession in the house? I would like to visit her house in Demark one day, Dinka now is adopted son of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth so Dinka can go to Denmark, that wont be a problem. Dinka is also son of Kenya, so, he will go to Kenya again soon and make sure to visit Karen's home.
Quite a lot if not all the inventory of the house was donated by the film crew of "Out of Africa" The are exact replicas of the original furniture etc.
Allegedly Its not. Correct me if I am wrong somebody - I read somewhere Karen the suburb in Nairobi is not named after Karen Blixen but after a diplomat's wife? and the House that they call Karen Blixen museum is not Karen Blixen's actual house but the house used in the movie as her house as it was the closest to a typical colonial house they could find for the movie that resembled one that she could have stayed at. I too perhaps fell for the legend and actually visited the 'Karen Blixen Museum' in Nairobi. Happy to be corrected though! as its a much better story if it were all true!
Yes Karen is named after her same to Lake Victoria. Victoria was the great, great grandmother to Queen Elizabeth and etc etc etc. Don't you know the British wanted to take over Kenya as their own?
Kenya is beautiful. While there I was wondering who the Karen was all the buildings were named after. A couple years later while watching the movie, "Out of Africa" I found out. 🎉
Her generosity to the natives was her motto, she even thought africans were more sensitive and superior to the british colonialists who considered her a spy of the germans.
You should be a transit proud of your great aunt and the level of respect that she acquired in her lifetime while in 🇰🇪 Kenya...to name a township after her....other than native freedom fighter Jomo Kenyatta - to free Kenyavfrom the colonialists- there is only an explorer and the queen of england that have places named after them ( notice - nothing for Lord Delamier or any other colonialist ). She was a great woman & her name will be spoken for so many generations to come. Yes, Africa- specifically Kenya REMEMBERS her. Loved her adventurous spirit, her books, paintings & watch her movie ALOT. Because of her I have been to 5 African countries. I don't understand why she was NOT buried in the Ngong Hills with Denys - that is- from what she wrote - where her soul came alive.
@gritt orisen OMG...I stayed at the Norfolk Hotel in Nairobi ( just for one day before heading out with our group on safari ) & ( I just researched) the Lord Delamere Terrace was the ONLY place in that big beautiful hotel I did NOT go into. LOL
I just found myself in this compound this afternoon, and tour guide took us around. There is nothing to celebrate about her, and those structures should be brought down. She came to africa to make fortune at the expense of the indeginous africans, and when her farm burnt to ashes, she ran away.
Thank you so very much for showing us your great-aunt's home in Africa.

I love this. When I visited Africa three years ago, going to this house was the ONLY must on my itinerary. God bless.
Have visited so many times and feel so at peace there ♥️

Thanks and welcome.
A Life of a Woman Well Led Whom Must have come from Great People as Parents.
So much good started from there.
That’s very wonderful. OMG. You must be proud.
Beautiful house!

They grabbed the land

Commie trash all over the place.
Who else saw corona on the telephone
i will visit the place...i live in nairobi
The 1985 movie omitted that Karen's brother came down to help with the plantation.
We guess there was no room for that in the storyline of the movie. The building he stayed in during his visit is now part of a restaurant and hotel which is located next to the plantation.
If someone has seen the movie, it's not complete until you see this house and later finch hatons grave not far from here.
Unfortunately his grave isn't easily accessible anymore
You can start your own dream in Kenya . Dual citizenship is allowed and foreigners can own ranches that house wildlife. A favourite place for that nowadays is Laikipia County.
A woman is thinking is educated the Africa.. specially to children!
Super Super Super
Did the movie use the real house to shoot its scenes?
Yes
out of Africa...Errol trezbinski wrote so well
She did NOT write "Out of Africa." She wrote another book about Blixen.
Apologies from Dinka, amazing Karen :( - in the movie it shows she sold all her possessions before leaving Kenya, how comes there are still possession in the house? The house was converted into a museum in 1986. It is managed and curated by the National Museums of Kenya.
Quite a lot if not all the inventory of the house was donated by the film crew of "Out of Africa"

Wow Karen is named after Karen a person ?
Alex Bundi maybe you should rent the movie Out of Africa as a reference.
