Miss being back in 1996. I was 25 years-old. I’m 50 now. Those years flew by. Thank God I’m healthy as ever and still here to tell about it. Never smoked, drank, or did drugs. Kept my straight and narrow path. Most of the people I hung with back then are now gone. Lonely at times, but I’m still here.

Don't know what the 1996 references are for, but yes, this does seem to be a version from the '90s.
NOTE: Even the end of the video says: "1993 Geffen Records, Inc."

For me, 1982 Delta Colorado, Friday night, off work from Terrell's Restaurant, cruising Main Street, house parties later, I was 19, young and free and i didn't even know it. Memories lost and forgotten like tears in the rain.

Look up the meaning of the Portuguese word "Saudade". There is no English translation of saudade, very roughly, a deep, aching longing or yearning for someone or something in the past that you hope returns but in the very back of your mind you know it's unlikely or impossible.

Buffy, being 16 in the 90s....the dreams I had. I never appreciated those years, but something has to be said for the tears and the tiredness of life all before it really began. Now I am older, with teenagers of my own. I wish more than anything that they savor every second...being an adult can be so unkind...so harsh. This song is a painful reminder of youth.

No sweeping exits or offstage lines

    Lyrics:
    Childhood living
    Is easy to do
    The things you wanted
    I bought them for you
    Graceless lady
    You know who I am
You know I can't let you
    Slide through my hands
    Wild horses
    Couldn't drag me away
    Wild, wild horses
    Couldn't drag me away
    I watched you suffer
    A dull aching pain
    Now you've decided
    To show me the same
    No sweeping exit
    Or offstage lines
    Could make me feel bitter
    Or treat you unkind
    Wild horses
    Couldn't drag me away
    Wild, wild horses
    Couldn't drag me away
    I know I've dreamed you
    A sin and a lie
    I have my freedom
But I don't have much time
    Faith has been broken
    Tears must be cried
    Let's do some living
    After we die
    Wild horses
    Couldn't drag me away
    Wild, wild horses
    We'll ride them some day
    Wild horses
    Couldn't drag me away
    Wild, wild horses
    We'll ride them some day

This is breathtaking. This crosses the line into Art. David Gavurin's guitar work is excellent, but it is the combination of Harriet Wheeler's sublime voice and her uncanny ability to interpret a song (this is not the only example) from the pensive understated beginning through to the intensity of feeling present in the chorus and end that makes this gem a masterpiece.

  • @ArtbyAtlas

I see the two songs Wild Horses and Fade Into You matched/compared in a lot of comments and it's fair. To me, Wild Horses sounds like the beginning of something beautiful: it has hope and the promise of greatness and potential in love. Being with that someone now and in the next life even ("Let's do some living after we die"). It's about something real but intangible, that can't be broken.
Fade Into You feels like the end of something that could've been beautiful but was torn apart; not an unrequited love, but of a deep and mutual love that could never be. Even in that ending we've accepted, the passion was never lost, just reflected on ("I think it's strange you never knew.") It's about two people who *need* to be, but never will be.
They're both masterpieces and that's my perspective on it. Sorry for talking so much lol

This song reminds me of a girl I dated at the turn of the century. She was the only girl I ever loved more than myself. She brought me to the happiest I've ever been. She cheated on me and dumped me. I wish I didn't think of her when this song plays but I can't help it. It's bittersweet nostalgia. I'll never have anything like it again. Sometimes I just have to listen to this. It brings back all the trips we took together. Spending time with a girl I wanted to spend the rest of my life loving. She didn't see it that way. I wish I could take back the gifts I gave her. I miss her so much. That part of me doesn't exist anymore. It's not fair girls tear us apart like that. I thank the universe for this song. It means the world to me.
