I actually met David after their Atlanta concert. We spent about an hour or so conversing. During that time he told me they didn’t know how much longer they would carry on. They couldn’t get used to the tour life. It was taxing for them and then their daughter, Billie, who was that night sleeping in the bus. He said they were grateful for the support from fans, but they truly treasured their privacy. Amazingly, he told me all this in Spanish, which is the main reason he stopped to chat with me: “I want to practice my Spanish.” After our conversation, he personally introduced me to Harriet, who was chatting with fans, etc. He said to her: she’s our biggest fan, in English. I felt embarrassed but she smiled and signed the play song list by writing: Thank you for your listening ears. She signed and David sign. They also went ahead and signed the cover of one their CD’s. I miss them.m, but I’m sure they’re just enjoying life.
i, too, met them after a show in chicago, circa 1993. i was already in love with harriet's voice, but seeing them in concert, made me realize just how angelic she was, not only as an artist, but as a person. my friends and i asked if we could buy them a drink after their show and they graciously accepted. we chatted with dave and harriet for about 10 minutes before they went about their way. i miss hearing new music from them but understand their want for privacy. i always joked (sort of) to any and all future girlfriends/wife that if harriet ever left dave and wanted to run away with me, i'd ditch my gf in a heartbeat. i said that with the utmost confidence because i was also 100% sure those two would always be together. be well dave and harriet.

One of my favorite bands ever. Love them so much. Super underrated, but appreciated by those of us who found the rest of their stuff. Like others have said, such angelic vocals and guitar work. Fantastic. Thank you for covering this band.
Next to Pink Floyd my favorite band ever and just a shame they never made further albums after their 3rd. They were so unique and her voice and his guitar are both magical! I would have given anything to see them live.
All I can say is that I loved The Sundays from the very first moments of 1990 when I heard "Here's Where The Story Ends" and saw the video, it felt so emotionally familiar to me.
The moment(1993) I heard the opening to "skin and bones" I was hooked. The waling in Harriet's voice in that song cut me to my core as a 22 year old and still does today.
The Sundays are currently one of my biggest musical influences as a singer songwriter myself! Even before I sought out information about them, they always allured me with their unique and enchanting music. Thank you for putting the spotlight onto them here!!
Thanks so much for doing this story! I absolutely adore this band and I'm a lifelong Metalhead. They’re one of the few 90s regulars I return to still, especially when I’m in the right mood. Whatever they did, for as briefly as they chose to do it, it’s MAGIC!
@@billschwenke790 I think the first I or most folks heard of them was in odd place, an action flick called “Blow up” with Jeff Bridges and Tommy Lee Jones, about an IRA domestic terrorist. While he was planting his bombs, they played “Here’s where the story ends”. Like many bands, getting this spot in a movie ST may have been just the push they needed. Though it may have already been a hit before then, perhaps in the UK.
If I could go back in time for a few hours, I would spend that time on a Sundays concert. I miss them. My husband and I have three things in common, and they are the three Sundays albums that we both own independently of each other ... so technically six things.
I totally fell in love with Harriet's voice and the guitar and I will always be a huge fan of the Sundays and it's a real shame that they are no longer playing.❤️
It's really cool that you covered the Sundays. Such a cool band. I really liked Blind and Static & Silence. Thanks for covering a band that was a little off the beaten path.
Agreed! Oddly enough, years ago (c. 2003) I was at a golf practice range and they had music piped into a sound system. While practicing my golf, that song comes on! I had to stop and think, “Wow… this is a random track to hear at a place like this… but I’m glad they did!!” I got to practice for a few minutes listening to Harriet’s beautiful voice. 😃 Then, I had to explain to the woman next to me, “No… this is NOT Sixpence None the Richer!!” 🤨
Blind is one of my top 5 favorite albums of all time (and I like a LOT of music). The mix has a "cold" feel to it, with the guitars drenched in so much reverb they sound like a Hammond organ at times, but it all works so well. Listening to all the guitar layers in each song you'd think David was an engineer more so than a guitar player.
Discovered them at 16, im 18, people do not appreciate the art and hidden meanings in their music, titles, and lyrics. My dream is to one day meet Harriet and David in person and tell them how much they shaped the way I live. Thank you for giving me euphoria
I saw the Sundays live in NYC in the mid-1990's. They were amazing. Harriet was mesmerizing but VERY shy. A random guy yelled out in between songs, "Harriet, I love you!" She nearly passed out from embarrassment as she backed away from the microphone...Her reluctance to be in the spotlight is what I love most about her!
They were the parents of my housemate, at Bristol University, 2014 - we were both studying English literature. I met them both. David was really lovely and friendly toward me. Harriet, not so much... Their daughter... well, I tried to be friends with her but I wasn't 'cool' enough, to put things mildly. I'll never forget how she acted towards me.
The Sundays did my favorite cover of The Rolling Stones song Wild Horses. 💘 Out of the I assume hundreds of bands have covered the Stones but the Sundays made the song their own specifically Harriet’s voice is haunting.
On one hand we all lament over the fact that they didn't keep producing music for us to hear. On the other hand we are all very grateful that they gifted us with 3 albums that were all amazing (how many bands can say they put out 3 albums where nearly any song could have been a single to kick the album off to the public?). And for those of you who haven't found their B-sides, I suggest you do so because they are equally as incredible as the songs that made their albums. So really, they practically produced FOUR amazing albums when you include the B-sides. I am so thankful I got to see them in concert at the Electric Factory in Philly. And they were superb. Harriet's voice is just as ethereal and dreamy live as it is on the album tracks. So thanks to The Sundays for gifting us with 3 brilliant albums that we can all savour and enjoy and glad that you are enjoying your lives outside of public view. Wish you all well.
Reading, Writing and Arithmetic was on constant rotation in my high school years. That album could not be worn out as much as it was played. Even today it is nostalgic, and still retains the fresh simplicity of really creative songwriting. What an awesome band!
I wish they would have made more music. They were so good in the early - mid 90s. Their sound was perfect for that time, especially in the college / alternative genre. They were just perfect!!
I never would have predicted this, and I love it. So happy to hear of people making music they love and prioritizing living the life they want over putting out records
I, for one, miss these guys sooooo much. I was completely obsessed with them for 20 years or so and still listen to them a lot. I even sang their songs as lullaby's to get my kids to sleep xxx
The Sundays were awesome. They put out three great records. The Blind album was a masterpiece. They got out of a heartless industry undiluted and intact.
I was a big Sundays fan in the 80's. "Homeward" is a song that will always make me cry. Every. Time. It came up on shuffle while listening to my click-wheel Ipod one night, driving back from the nursing home after visiting my mom in 2010. I heard the song many times before then, but never like that night. I had to pull over becsuse the song had hit a nerve. A deep and painful one - because I knew time was running out with Mom. I was in tears. No other song has ever come close to how I felt at that very moment. Harriet's voice is, and will always be, amazing. The guitar arpeggios in the chorus still give me goosebumps.
I adore the Sundays mellow pop songs with their quirky lyrics and beautiful melodies. Wheeler is my absolute favorite female singer with a femininity that makes me wobbly. Though beautiful, she never plays up her sexuality, unlike the vast majority of female singers. Gavurin, is a first rate textural guitarist and the bassist and drummer also play quite tasty bits. Thanks RNRTS!
The wobbly impact she has is well stated. Ad little as she played up her senxuality, there is so much beauty in her it seemed impossible to not crush on her when they first came out. I know I did. My girlfriends at the time were all like "I get it"...what could they say? Didn't even seem like she was trying.
Harriet was one of the best pure singers ever. Gavurin is an outstanding and inventive guitarist. Hannan is one of the most underrated drummers on the planet. I'm glad he's still doing sessions. Very glad to know they're remembered fondly by so many.
Nice piece, cheers! 💜💜💜💜💜 Did anyone else catch them live? On a cold night in Sacramento CA in '92/'93, I saw them play at a Ramada Inn (poolside!) as a last minute relocation after the historic venue they were due to play burnt down the night before... The sound and conditions were not ideal, but the band were good sports and the crowd loved them. Great band and solid output. I cherish each Sunday's albums.
Sundays were an amazing band. Saw them on the Blind tour. Harriet is an angel. It is shame they do not do more music, but if they are happy, then good for them. I have always wondered how they make a living nowadays.
@@thomyoung17 Really? I have never heard that. Would be interesting if it's true. They just decided to stop making music completely. Wasn't like they didn't have fans or had worn out their welcome.
I first heard their music in 1990. I was going through some tough times and their music helped me. I have a feeling they did that for a lot of people. I wonder if they realize how much their music helped people like me?
How I loved to present their luminously songs @ my radio shows in Perú! One of the most requested band for sure and an original soundtrack of our lives!
I recently bought their third release and it’s a great cd, one of my most listened to since purchasing. I don’t know how I missed it when it came out but it’s easily my favorite of their three.
wow! what a blast from the past. I used to play 'here's how the story ends' quite frequently on my radio show at kusf. That was and still is, the only song i know from them. and reading writing and arithmetic is the only album I know from them.
I’ll never understand how they could disappear with loyal fans like me who love them. I’ve spent over two decades now wishing they would do more. I still listen to all three albums from time to time. At least when the Cocteau Twins split up for good , it was announced so we knew nothing more was coming. The Sundays went missing without explanation. That has been torturous for people like me who grieved the loss of their beautiful music continuing. I miss Harriet’s beautiful voice as much as Karen Carpenter, but it’s worse because Harriet is still alive and her voice isn’t being shared any more when it could have been all these years. I adore this band and always will. Thank you for this video!
The SUNDAYS are my favorite band ever! I was lucky enough to see them on the Blind album tour at UCI Brenn Center. One of the greatest 2 hours of my life. I miss them so much it hurts. I truly hope they will release more tunes but sadly, I'm not holding my breath.
This is such an iconic band of my 20’s! The sounds bring floods of memories of yesteryears!! Such a masterpiece of time and voice! So wish we could hear more of them
Wow. Loved that band, never knew anything about them. Great vibe and hearing them back in the day seemed like I had discovered a hidden gem of a group that nobody else was aware of. Nice to hear their story which I hadn't even a clue about. Glad it's not a tragedy for them. Maybe for us not hearing any more music from them.
David Gavurin is an unheralded musical genius, and Harriet Wheeler's vocals defy verbal description. The first Sundays album (1989) is immortal, and the follow-up (1992) is a worthy successor. The 3rd album ('97-'98) is not bad, but in retrospect it's obvious that David & Harriet had had enough of the industry by that point, and were on their way out the door.
They should share that music. It’s like a talented painter painting a beautiful picture but not letting the world see. The world really needs to hear their songs.
in my youth in london i found a pound note in the street. at the same time it was a contemporary lyric in a sundays song at that moment. a fond memory then and now :)

Static and Silence will always be my favorite album. I dont think people understand how amazing this group was
One of my favorite bands ever. Love them so much. Super underrated, but appreciated by those of us who found the rest of their stuff. Like others have said, such angelic vocals and guitar work. Fantastic. Thank you for covering this band.
It proves not everyone is tone deaf idiots ruining music haha
Next to Pink Floyd my favorite band ever and just a shame they never made further albums after their 3rd. They were so unique and her voice and his guitar are both magical! I would have given anything to see them live.
I remember when "Here's Where The Story Ends" was one of the most played Muzak songs in Malls / Stores / Elevators, etc..
It was also featured on one of the best skateboarding videos ever made. Welcome To Hell from Toy Machine.
@@garrettsheaffer9799 that was "You're not the only one I know" Also a great song. Elissa Steamer!
@@oldhead-stillshred8537 I don't remember that one but I do remember Elissa Steamer having a Sundays song during her part on Welcome to Hell.
When I worked at kohl’s about 20 years ago it was in the satellite music rotation
All I can say is that I loved The Sundays from the very first moments of 1990 when I heard "Here's Where The Story Ends" and saw the video, it felt so emotionally familiar to me.
It's not often that a band makes only 3 albums and all of them are perfect.
The Sunday are one of pop's great romantic stories.
The moment(1993) I heard the opening to "skin and bones" I was hooked. The waling in Harriet's voice in that song cut me to my core as a 22 year old and still does today.
I still adore The Sundays. Harriet Wheeler has one of the most beautiful voices.
I would be over the moon to see them live again.
The Sundays are currently one of my biggest musical influences as a singer songwriter myself! Even before I sought out information about them, they always allured me with their unique and enchanting music. Thank you for putting the spotlight onto them here!!
They were both talented, he's a great melodic guitarist and she has a great haunting voice. I always liked this group! 👏👏
Thanks so much for doing this story! I absolutely adore this band and I'm a lifelong Metalhead. They’re one of the few 90s regulars I return to still, especially when I’m in the right mood. Whatever they did, for as briefly as they chose to do it, it’s MAGIC!
Same, never tire of the song Love I think I saw the promo amidst other memorable clips in Real MTV's waning daze
I miss this band so much! Harriet had such a gorgeous voice.
If I could go back in time for a few hours, I would spend that time on a Sundays concert. I miss them. My husband and I have three things in common, and they are the three Sundays albums that we both own independently of each other ... so technically six things.
Such a great, mellow, melodic, and soulful band. They are a big part of how I fondly remember 1990's music.
I met Harriet and Dave after a show in Seattle during Static and Silence. They were so sweet!
@Geriatric FecalPhiliac Watch my current upload. Got your proof right here!
My all time favorite song by them is "You're Not the Only One I Know.”
Then, I had to explain to the woman next to me, “No… this is NOT Sixpence None the Richer!!” 🤨
Yeah. That and Finest Hour.
I know, I know, I know...but I'm far too...
@@tomwilko7841 proud to talk to you any day.
one of the only 2 songs on the first album I don't love.
I adore their first and third records but could never get into Blind.
The melodies in goodbye. Enough said 🔥
Discovered them at 16, im 18, people do not appreciate the art and hidden meanings in their music, titles, and lyrics. My dream is to one day meet Harriet and David in person and tell them how much they shaped the way I live. Thank you for giving me euphoria
I can always pinpoint my life with all 3 albums. That’s what made them special to me and will hold on to those memories forever.
Interesting story.
Love this band. I bought their album in the 90s and played it all the time. The voice is beautiful.
The Sundays did my favorite cover of The Rolling Stones song Wild Horses. 💘 Out of the I assume hundreds of bands have covered the Stones but the Sundays made the song their own specifically Harriet’s voice is haunting.
I've never stopped listening to the their albums, all the 3 of them have never left my playlist! I need one more album!
I can’t begin to tell you how much I love The Sundays. My big regret is not getting to see them live.
I truly love your music! Your music fills my heart with Joy....
I met the band a few times during the Blind Tour. Very nice, down to earth people. They even agreed to do a station ID for my college's radio station.
i spent the other say with RWA on repeat ALL day, never got bored, so productive and relaxed.
Wild Horses cover is amazing.
One of my all time favorite covers 🧡
I Truly think it's The Best , Even though I know it isn't the original .
It's great. Stones' original is a bit better.
There’s that damn overused word again…amazing.
See 'Buffy' season 3 ep. 22
Sounds like they've stayed grounded and kept their relationship and family first, awsome!
The Sundays create magic. If they ever bless us with a new album I would love it. If they dont, then what they gave us is still magical.
What a singer.
I love their version of "Wild Horses" -- it's probably my favorite cover of that track.
Best band ever. Would love to hear more from them
I, for one, miss these guys sooooo much. I was completely obsessed with them for 20 years or so and still listen to them a lot. I even sang their songs as lullaby's to get my kids to sleep xxx
The Sundays are my favorite band ever ugh im kinda sad they aren’t a band anymore but im grateful for those 3 albums
Been a huge fan since 1990. Even at 50, goodbye is still on my playlist

Cool video... I'm pretty sure the song is called "Here's Where The Story Ends," though.
Yes!
120 Minutes was such a great session on MTV. Better times-Better music. Long live the 90s!
Harriet was one of the best pure singers ever. Gavurin is an outstanding and inventive guitarist. Hannan is one of the most underrated drummers on the planet. I'm glad he's still doing sessions. Very glad to know they're remembered fondly by so many.
Their cover of "Wild Horses" is ridiculous. Mesmerizing. So many bands have been influenced by The Sundays.
Just listen to Natalie Imbruglia's song Wrong Impression. COMPLETELY influenced by the Sundays.
They really haven't!
One of my favorite bands of all time. I keep looking to see if new material will be coming out. I miss their music so much!
❤this band. Skin and Bones still gives me chills.
Nice piece, cheers! 💜💜💜💜💜
Did anyone else catch them live? On a cold night in Sacramento CA in '92/'93, I saw them play at a Ramada Inn (poolside!) as a last minute relocation after the historic venue they were due to play burnt down the night before... The sound and conditions were not ideal, but the band were good sports and the crowd loved them.
Great band and solid output. I cherish each Sunday's albums.
Sundays were an amazing band. Saw them on the Blind tour. Harriet is an angel. It is shame they do not do more music, but if they are happy, then good for them. I have always wondered how they make a living nowadays.
harriet is a teacher from an interview i read
@@thomyoung17 Really? I have never heard that. Would be interesting if it's true. They just decided to stop making music completely. Wasn't like they didn't have fans or had worn out their welcome.
I first heard their music in 1990. I was going through some tough times and their music helped me. I have a feeling they did that for a lot of people. I wonder if they realize how much their music helped people like me?
"Blood on my hands" is a banger to this day
How I loved to present their luminously songs @ my radio shows in Perú! One of the most requested band for sure and an original soundtrack of our lives!
A great band, and while it would be nice to hear new music from them, I can't say how much I respect them for sticking to their convictions.
Wherever they are and whatever they are doing, I hope they are happy. Their music has given me so much happiness as well as to most of my friends.
I came in at Static and Silence and loved the band instantly.
That was and still is, the only song i know from them. and reading writing and arithmetic is the only album I know from them.
hey take a listen you won't be disappointed. when did you work in radio and do you still?
@@njb1126 1988 - 91 KUSF, best college radio back then. everyone suggested making the transition to commercial radio, but i had zero interest in that.
LOVE this band. Every song of theirs brings back some memories, of being 19, and the drama and intensity of that time of life
The whole album was great....(reading, writing, arithmetic)
You saw The Sundays live - wow. Just wow, sooo lucky.
@@pdog547 still have the ticket stub. It was a glorious day!
I agree. I stood there transfixed for two hours at the Brenn Center.
A coin surely??
@@tomwilko7841 too many years and beers. thought it was a note but? definitely bought me a pint that night. cheers!
I loved the 90's, AiC, Soundgarden, Pearl Jam and the Sundays, just beautiful melodies with a beautiful voice behind it..
I'm happy for them that they are doing things their way..their children are blessed to have a mom who probably songs to them all the time...
