Such an amazing band. One of my faves. I got plastered with Greg (guitarist) and Jon (bassist). Greg showed me some new songs that he was working on, and then I drove him up to one of my local strip clubs. We were listening to "w^w^^w^w" all the way up and back and he was pointing out all kinds of shit. Definitely one of the greatest nights of my life.
Space Boy We were pretty fucking plastered, but I remember him talking about how they created some of the feed back swells. They would record a wall of crappy little beginner amps, and max out their levels so they were clipping out. Spirit of Poison is his favorite song, and I think he told me that it was really hard to nail down a lot of parts in it.
Elliot, your drumming is out of this world, your bandmates are pretty rad as well and also my musical heroes of creation...I am so excited to be alive during these days. Just saw you in Knoxville with DEP, it was something I will cherish forever and will always remember like it was yesterday. Thank you!!!!
it's those grooves that give just this unspeakably dark quality to car bomb that I fail to see in any other djent or math core type of band. It's just so twisted and screwed up but still has this unstoppable pushing quality to it. Sooooo intense.
I first saw these boys at this gig supporting Meshuggah...Downloaded this album on the way to the gig. Fell in love with them and LOVE the new album. Just genius!! They were amazing live and was lucky enough to see them at The Round House in Camden. The sound was incredible. Best gig ive ever been to. GET BACK OVER TO UK BOYS!!!
Saw these guys support Meshuggah at the Roundhouse in London a few weeks back. Elliot was as flawless as he is in this video which shows his incredible consistency. This is a ridiculously challenging set both physically and mentally. It may only be 12 minutes but it's 12 minutes of condensed tech-craziness. The whole band were tight as balls, shame about the sound, particularly the guitar sound. Even Meshuggah sounded weak (I know right?!). But yeah, one of the best in the business this Hoffman chap.
longdrums "ridiculously challenging set both physically and mentally" Yes, but it'd be nice if he did more than grimace once or twice. Sweat, maybe. Wipe a brow, anything other than casually just cruising along, doing crazy shit, precisely. Can't say I enjoy their music, but, my God! Respect is due.
unbelievable. such unique vocals, almost funny at times. (on w.w.). The sickest grooves that are relentless and constantly morphing between meters and signatures. This is the epitome of metal for me. Meshuggah is up there, but they are too linear to keep me excited very long. CAR BOMB fucking rules! Thanks for posting this!!
Jesus I don't know how the waveform record flew under my radar around the time it came out! Meta and Moridal are already 2 of my favorite all time records and this one QUICKLY catching up!!!
@@walkamongtheignorant4912 i tried to search how to pronounce it, and found a written interview years ago, where i believe the bassist said " it's pronounced w click w"
Depending on your taste. For me that title goes to the band their opening for. Jens kidman and Thomas Haake combined sound like the apocalypse itself, then maybe the duplantier ' s of Gojira, then these dudes for sure.
No Thing notice how I prefaced my comment with "depending on your taste." I didn't state it as fact. It's all subjective. You just tried to take a shit on one of my favorite bands simply because they're not to your taste. However before calling them weak listen to Toxic Garbage Wasteland or The Heaviest Matter of the Universe. If your only point of reference is their newest cd I could understand your perspective a little bit better. Don't be a music elitist dude. Car bomb is clearly influenced by Gojira anyway, so they couldn't possibly shit on them.
Haha. You've been waiting to call someone triggered all day. It's strange because your acting like an edgy little 14 year old when I'm agreeing with two thirds of what your saying. Enjoy life and try a little harder.
@@timothyhoward6112 You have shitty taste. If art is subjective, your opinion on any piece of art is immediately invalidated by how utterly simplistic you are. Listen to shit that showcases more sophistication before saying stupid shit. Fuck your opinion.
I gotta add...watching you drum is like watching a human with two arms and two legs coordinate limbs into flight, destroying the principles of physics. It's unbelievable.
i do wish these guys would all quit their probably very high paying technical engineer, IT, and rocket science jobs to become a full time broke touring band, fuck they sound like they pull off those songs no problem.
I wonder what he's listening to on that in-ear monitor? Guitar or something? I have a hard time believing that they play to a metronome, there's so many weird tempo shifts. It's like they really go out of their way to make the rhythms sound unnatural when writing the material, so using a metronome would be really strange, I think they just "feel" their way through this stuff. I bet they just sound so tight because they rehearsed it gazillions of times. And that's also probably why the Centralia album took like 7 years to record.
Yeah, some parts are not the same speed as the record (for example the "chorus" in Lower the Blade sounds a bit faster), so I'm pretty sure they don't play to a click. I suppose he uses in-ears for the triggers and, generally, to have a better, more focused and complete monitoring: it helps a lot, especially if you have to play insane stuff like this!
Click or no click it's equally impressive. I get the feeling there's none but would impress just as much if there is ! Following clicks takes practice, but I'm pretty he's just a rhythmic master mind
Don't take me wrong, I fucking love Car Bomb, but why play the songs faster? I think they're a little less enjoyable like this, as it's easy to miss the details and the crazy song structures. Is it because you were on a tight time limit before Meshuggah stepped in? Anyways, incredible show.
Probably due to adrenaline, fatigue, having been on the road and in an entirely new continent, Opening for Meshuggah... It's a live show, these things happened mostly unplanned.
Kenny Grohowski Take the occasion to say hello to one of the best drummers I've ever seen live (with Secret Chief in Bologna a couple of years ago) :-)
Apparently no click, so that's just the result, we are hearing his feel, live setting it's always easier to naturally change tempo we are human. Not a huge difference, jez my band was playing simple metal core and we would make way bigger jumps in tempo from versus to chorus than that. This kind of music would make it even easier to mess up the precise tempo. In reality he's doing super
Was at the Meshuggah gig in London. I thought these guys were fucking awful. Clearly talented but not my cup of tea. I think the vocals being very very high in the mix was not helping. Drummer is clearly amazing though.
Elliot Hoffman has to considered one of the top drummers man! The dudes insane
Thanks again Sick Drummer for appreciating Elliot and Car Bomb! most people don't get it.

They just deserve so much respect. Never heard something similar to that, just unique.
Dillinger escape plan is similar but not as heavy if you’re looking for something spastic and random
@@norwardradtke1361 not random. It’s written composition that was learned and is on recording.
Spirit of Poison is a technical fucking masterpiece. My god seeing him play it is so much better than just hearing it.

Spirit of poison, what a fucking tune to kick off live like that. Such a beast of a band and a drummer!
Right before bracket I think Greg teased us some New Millennium Cyanide Christ
I love everything about this band.
These guy's are phenomenal. Way to take it to the next level. Great. So precise.
Elliot Hoffman is a beast. Super technical, groovy, tasty and brutal.
CarBomb should tour with Coprofago and Meshuggah. The unholy trinity of syncopated riffs
Gotta be daunting as fuck as a drummer to precede Thomas Haake. And that's pretty much the best way to do it.
Believe me, Thomas Haake holds Elliot in high regards.
Raphaël Bovey whe he mention him??
Thomas and Elliot are both fans of each other.
great video
Check out his youtube channel, Some of the video's are incredible, This guy has serious talent
LOL that New Millennium Cyanide Christ riff
I'd kill to see them cover anything from Meshuggah
