Unreal. My two favorite drummers in the same room. Throw in Tomas Haake and you'll have the top 3 living drummers on one camera. Glad you guys put this together.
Elliot Hoffman literally changed my life with music and drumming. His insane drumming and inspirations opened the door for so many opportunities to learn and excel as a drummer and as a producing musician. I could remember listening to Centralia and Meta around 2016 for the first time which only gained more interest into the madness within Car Bomb (which is my favorite band to this day) Outside of Car Bomb and metal, Elliot introduced me to IDM and other electronic Artists of the 90s such as Aphex Twin, Autechre, and Squarepusher. All of which have taken my interest, and passion as a musician to a whole new level and also gave me a whole new approach to drums. Six years pass and I still get inspired by Elliot to this day and hope to one day see Car Bomb on tour. Thank you so much Matt for taking the time to straight up chill with one of the most under rated drummers in the metal scene today. You two are like the pinnacle of Progressive drumming -Ryan Ruch
Autechre stand out in this row. Just listen to their 2005-2015 live shows - those drums are totally sick drumwise. Also there was an artist BrothomStates from Finland signed on Warp Records, his 2001 Qtio EP is crazy af! Total math-idm. Aphex and SP use more simple rhythms, in general. I'd be glad to hear more interesting, but Autechre are the greatest idm-musicians, super forward-thinking rhytm-wise and sound-wise.
@@DenEz_TV my favorite Autechre album when it comes to crazy drum programming in Untilted from 2005. Also worth mentioning are some more idm/glitch contemporaries I've found over the years. Highly recommend Datach'i, Vaetxh, and Venetian Snares
@@WhirlwindDrumsgood recommendations. I’m going to add some stuff. Igorrr (older stuff and the hallelujah album is phenomenal, newer stuff is wicked also). Very much like Ruby my dear with the genre mashing, going through several in one track whilst keeping a metal sound. Ruby my dear - seriously musical breakcore. Drum patterns and sequences are just insane. Lots of 7/4 , and lots of genre mashing and I’m talking baroque with jazzy metal breakcore for example. Check it out. Beautiful composer Julien is. You mentioned Venetian snares, great recommendation. Dude has a plethora of stuff to go into. Some of noisia’s more recent stuff is worth mentioning. Tracks like the hole part 1. I can’t remember the timing but it’s absurdly hypnotic for the signature it is. Lovely crisp drums and amen breaks/shuffles. Real pioneers of bass heavy, drum manic sound design. Minimal sounding but very complex the hole part 1 is. Culprate - others ep (and his newest album) Insane tracks and sound design. Awesome drum programming and sequences. Tracks like helter and jelly & ice cream are worth a mention off that ep for insane sonic goodness. His new album is far out there for sound design and musicality. Phenomenal album. Highly recommend if you’re here watching Matt garstka talk to Elliot Hoffman haha. You’ve got the ears. Depends how hard you like your electronica. But S.murk is worth a mention. Sweet as drum breaks and patterns but very crisp sound design and master. Huge artist. A mix between jungle and drum n bass but a nice drum focused sound. Square pusher is also a top notch artist/band. Same with shobaleader one. There’s more but it’s early in the morning here in Australia and I can’t think of who else to mention 😂
One common theme I hear from all the musicians I admire is started out listening to Mahavishnu orchestra. John Mclaughlins riffs, violinist, all of them really.
Elliot is a boss! I remember hearing Spooge and then Car Bomb. His influences are the same as mine Sean Reinhart, Stuart Copeland the hi-hat mad man! Him and a lot of early 2000s late 90s drummers really peaked my metal playing before then it was more Neil Peart, Stuart Copeland, and many others! I played without a click but playing Rush albums as a kid it makes into a human metronome. I can play to a click I just rather not it sounds way better imo.
This was a wholesome treat. Thank you both. Another humble reminder to get behind my kit to practice so I can try to play at least a thousandth of what either of you play. Peace.
Elliot: I am so glad you mentioned Cynic and Sean Reinert. That album and drummer changed my entire existance and shaped me into the "drummer" that I am today. Your story matches mine so closely starting in punk/thrash and evolving into prog metal and discovering cynic etc....I am 44 so we were prob doing that shit at the same time! Glad you made it into a career!! I am a huge animals fan but have not heard carbomb yet, definitely going to be checking you out now :)
Cool vid dudes! Should be another with youse listening to & discussing Sean Reinert's discography, from Death's Human album to the Cynic albums. Huge Weckl & Colaiuta guy, like yourselves. His musical drumming was amazing & he changed metal forever in '91 on Human.
ha my comments removed o.k. again great drum work Elliot and matt you got swing in your metal ..i wont worry about that..El Estepario Siberiano made a mix of animals as leaders and its a great performance but its to on the grit ...you swing !!! greetings from the land of cheese holland
Actually quite a legendary hardcore/metal scene in Woosta/Western Mass, represent... dare I say it's even a trickle effect from the blues rock/HEAVY METAL bands many of the bands dads were in lol, or wished they were in. "son yur lerning meTUL"
On a side note when did you become so unreasonably jacked? I just saw your Perth performance and was shocked compared to when you came to Perth in 2017. Impressive stuff. Fantastic podcast!

Bet you can’t name a better drummer duo. Thanks for the amazing pods Matt, Hopefully you get a chance for Blake Richardson, Matt Lynch, or Luke Holland to join the party.
Unreal. My two favorite drummers in the same room. Throw in Tomas Haake and you'll have the top 3 living drummers on one camera. Glad you guys put this together.
Yep..same for me..love these guys and what they have brought to me and of course to drummers in general.
Don’t forget mario duplantier
I was about to type that myself! 😂😂😂
It is like seeing Goku and Vegeta in the same room

I'm gonna need another 40 hours of this thanks

Two of the best drummers in modern metal!
I honestly can't think of anyone better than Elliot.
Literally the two best drummers out right now
Surprised to hear him name Confessor. They're truly underappreciated, ESPECIALLY the drummer
Sounds like the video is using On-Camera Audio, instead of the Mic Audio.
Yes
The mics are just for show
@@everynameistaken567 Wrong. You can see the live feed on the Mixer behind them. It was an Editing Error.

At 35:30 it sounds like Elliot just described the trick on Finish It. That song gave me headaches for days.
Saw both these insane players on Halloween in Seattle. Fuckin crazy gig. Love you monsters
Edit: I will upload the songs I recorded to my channel soon
This is like John Wick and Tyler Rake sitting across a coffee table from each other
This was a wholesome treat. Thank you both. Another humble reminder to get behind my kit to practice so I can try to play at least a thousandth of what either of you play.

Great Stuff. Saw you guys in NYC . Just Amazing players
Sick podcast. House of drumming guy is steve Holmes..guy deserves wayyyy more subscribers
Two best in the game

Saw them at the Seattle show, it was a monster gig. Best sound and best crowd I've seen in Seattle in years

You guys need to start a drumming podcast
Agreed!
This is awesome, and I haven’t even started watching it haha
