Neighborhood Entrance Vandalized (Damaged Shrub Removal & Replacement)

  • They were drunk, angry, sleeping, or texting when they ran over our neighborhood entrance. Or it was cue old man voice THOSE DARN KIDS!
As you can seen, someone seems to have driven over almost half of the vegetation in our front entrance landscape area. In this video I volunteer to clean them up, then when I see how horrible they look, offer to pull them up so the neighborhood can replace them with a new neighborhood entrance landscape design.
As you may remember from previous videos where I work on this spot, the neighborhood I live in does not have an HOA (homeowner's association), which is an organization that governs over a neighborhood. They have the ability to create and enforce rules about things like maintaining your property, what you can or can't do in the neighborhood, to more minute things of what color you have to paint your house. They also collect dues monthly or annually to improve and upkeep common areas or to pay for amenities in the neighborhood. HOA's get a bad rap, and that is because their quality almost 100% derives from who is running them, and if you get petty or angry people in charge things can be run poorly. HOA's can also be effective and great tools if the right people are in charge.
All that said, we don't have one, so there is no one to take the lead on projects like this. A few days after this happened, I posted to the
    ‪@Nextdoor‬
app and asked if anyone knew what happened. After that I offered to trim them up and pull them out, and neighbors collected funds via donation to replace the plants.
    The products I use: www.amazon.com...

I really dislike hedges even when they're regularly trimmed. And I absolutely love crepe myrtles! That was an excellent choice on the part of your neighbor! And you did an absolutely awesome job! without all your hard work they would not have been able to come in and make it look so pretty.

Great Job Brad, I know what it is like to rip up big bushes and plants, I have spent my spare time these past twelve weeks doing all this by hand, I have a 2,850sq foot garden, I completed the garden yesterday (02/07/2020) I now have a very low maintainance garden which will take half hour to mow and weed.

In my neighbourhood there is no HOA too. We have had some idiots come through dumping their mattresses, couches, etc at our local park and all around the neighbourhood. We've complained to the city but that does nothing when this type of behaviour is rampant all throughout the city. So, we as neighbours took matters into our own hands. We pick up the rubbish and haul it away. Those of us who have dogs and need to walk them, we encourage that, and ask those who see anything suspicious to report it. I applaud that you are doing the same. We can all have nice things and a beautiful place to live in if we take the time to care for it.

Have you and the other homeowners considered painting a yellow line on the street around the bed or use reflectors of some kind or is that even allowable? Of course you don't know if it was accidental or intentional.
I don't live there but always appreciate when someone steps up and takes care of matters like that without expecting anything in return. Unfortunately not too many like that any more.
