FIAT X1/9 FERRARI Engine Head || INSANE ONBOARD 690Kg Monster

- This is Gianluca Ticci´s exquisite FIAT X1/9, originally built for Slalom Racing but now being turned into a full blown Hillclimb Monster. As it most defining feature, it is powered by a 285Hp/9.000+Rpm 2.0L Engine using the original SOHC block but mated to a Ferrari Engine head. To make things more unique, the V8 used on the Ferrari 308 is the engine where said Engine head stems from, using in this case half of it given the Inline 4 configuration. All this powering a 690Kg Rear Wheel Drive machine fitted with a bespoke widebody kit, makes for a truly efficient Hillclimb machine as can be seen here at Cividale-Castelmonte where it ended up being the Fastest Closed Car Overall beating all the 700+Hp 4x4 Turbo Monsters in one of the biggest upsets of the Season!!

im going to use this the next time my sister is driving... she'll go from a dead stop to like 3k engine revs just to have to go the next stop sign 10 yards away and wonders why her cars are all falling apart and shit.
One of the best builds I have seen. No understeer, almost no oversteer, mechanical grip and downforce in abundance, no twitches, no panic at the wheel... I guess many things are coming from sub 700kg weight, but even as a whole package is impressive.
Lightweight alone isn't enough. In Belgium they also use cross karts for hillclimbs, which are way lighter, but the rear end is all over the place.
@@michiel5160For sure, but this guy has really chunky tires are the end. That looks like almost 300mm tires at the back. Somehow I get the feeling this is built like some "Osella" prototype done in X1/9 shell :D

as far ive researched and i did a lot, its not a Ferrari 308 head its a misconception, the head isn't from ferrari as in the car company its from ferraris which was a small Italian company that did this head and made very few of them even the valve cover doesn't say ferrari it says ferraris
Not a misconception, info given to us by both Gianluca and Andrea Vescovi (the builder/tuner) of this X1/9.@@perfectentrytrading. A Romeo Ferraris tuned engine is a completely different thing.

Cividale Castelmonte is a scary, narrow, twisty road...more suited to Vespa then racecar. The frist time I ride it (motorcycle) I thought they must be mad to race here...

@@joe125ful Well,on hillclimbs it really is more about the driver than car itself.Of course,it’s important to have competitive car but on end of day it’s as good as driver and that’s undeniable conclusion.
Plus,if you want either of TCR and GT race cars be competitive on hillclimb you’ll still have to do adjustments and bit of modifications to have them perform. As nice as they are,they still fall short against something like car in video and where you get idea of real race drivers anyway?Isn’t that what guys like Ticci,Dondi,Schagerl,Bratschi or Meisel are?
@@hillclimbracingfan5821 Its same for TCR/GT class you need changes and make good setup and have great driver.
I like how TCR/GT feel on normal roads,clean,fast...its like they race there eweryday.
In other hand i like home builded cool Hill climb cars like SuperFast SLK when i saw it first time i fall to love with that car or crazy 1000Hp Evos or some cool looking BMWs etc.
If a race car be diminutive in size be sure not to miscalculate its ferocity, particularly when driven by a pilot of exceptional skill, for it may devour its prey like a Lion on the hunt.
SPECTACULAR machine, the skill of the driver none less so.
Uk had a huge Special Saloons scene in the 1980s ...cars like this raced at all the famous circuits every weekend.
Tony Dickenson raced a Chevron F5000 chassis with a Skoda silhouette body which ran a 2 litre hart 420 R ..amazing

But why not have both? Large displacement engine in a weight reduced vehicle? See: many Fox body builds.
@@jokerzwild00 weight, fuel consumption and packaging are the reasons why displacement isn't always the answear. See how motorcycles always have engines with less than 1.4L? Because if they went with engines bigger than 1.4L, they would have trouble in packaging this in the motorcycle's frame, and it would also be heavier, meaning that it would be harder to manuver it in the corners, and manuverability is everything for motorcycles. Same can be applied to cars, since this is pure simple physics.

Love this car. Not too sure about the engine. Why create such unusual combo? Do you save that much on weight? Always wanted to see an X1/9 with 13b or 20b. Feels like it would be a perfect fit for this platform

The punch out of slow corners for a 2Ltr is exceptional for an engine that has peak power all the eay up at 9500rpm. Wonder which block they used?

The Lampredi iron block is what makes the car in the upload eligible to race as a modified production car.
The established benchmark for a swapped (NA) X1/9 is likely the 580kg 210bhp Polini Racing version uses a 1398cc R1 Yamaha bike engine and transmission.
You would need to lengthen the wheelbase and widen the track, and use different control arms if you're going to use the Dallara style nose and outer wings.

V8 has 2 rows of cylinders, 4 cylinders for each row, one head for each row.
The question is, where do I buy one?
