Thanks for this. Should go a lot longer with two strings. Very tricky for me to get them sort of locked in at the beginning of winding. Video is not close enough to see how you start them and prevent from coming undone. I pushed the lower one through the slot and locked end in one of the tabs before winding. So far it’s working.
I never found the short, but I drilled two small holes in the spool the diameter of the string and start top and bottom from their respective hole. Working well so far.
thanks for video however i was having issues with the spool becoming tangled wrap around after turning on trimmer.went to hardward store for advice but now will go to harbor freight for assistance.jrs.
the trimmer is made to run flat out all the time, that will regulate the self feed and you should not have that problem, I have 2 videos on this trimmer and fixing the issues with it, check my portland play list - thanks for subscribing!
I used my weedeater for a year or so and it worked very well but now when loading the thread everything comes loose, it comes out and it cuts into pieces. Could you tell me why it happens?
Hello, I know it's been a while since you posted this video. I purchased this same one yesterday, but the string keeps coming out too much and getting wrapped around the head. Do you know the fix for that? Thank you!
there is an auto feed, if you run the trimmer flat out, full power all the time, you will have a lot less issues with the autofeed, I changed how i use it and have zero problems now - here is a video I did after that happened to me ruclips.net/video/z83Ds-IA1ck/видео.html - there is a video on winding the string - ruclips.net/video/mBtFXqEmEaE/видео.html - try running full power with out pauses and see if it gets better and let me know the results - thanks for subscribing!
I just bought one of these at Harbor freight. For the last two years I've been using Black & Decker but they are a seasonal trimmer. What I mean by that is they only last one season and then the motor goes out. 60.00 a year for trimmers is just too much. And BEWARE BLACK & DECKER CAUSED 2 OF MY ELECTRICAL CORDS TO CATH 🔥 I will never buy that brand again. On top of replacing my weed eater every year I was also having to replace my cords. I'm not sure how this Portland is going to do for me as I have a huge yard. Although I'm not knocking down big weeds, I am edging around my lot, about an acre. I'm also edging around flowers, fruit trees etc. In usually 115 to 120 degree heat. I'm hoping the weight of this 7.70lbs doesn't bog me down. I'll give an update. Thanks for your video review. 📹
the cords suprise me a little, but the basic problem is pulling too many amps thru the cable - if this happens, keep uping the cable rating, 12 gauge is probably the best option - but they are expensive, plan about $1 a foot for 10 or 12 gauge cord - ouch! I've done one season with this trimmer, and I' planning an update video as soon as I start using it this spring - thanks for the info and thanks for subscribing!
Over the years I found out that most feed issues with weed whackers in general comes from the string gauge being to big or the owner doesn't know how to spool the line Not knowing how to spool weed eater string is apparently a enough of an issue that lowes actually sells Pre spooled refills for some weed eaters
harbor freight also sells pre loaded refill for the bauer cordless and I agree overall, but I dont expect a trimmer like this to come with poorly loaded string - Thanks for subscribing !
run the trimmer flat out, it regulates the self advance, what happened to the first one? I have two videos about fixing this trimmer in this playlist - ruclips.net/video/FrtHaQcT--k/видео.html - thanks for subscribing!
The initial cord/string that comes with it was so weak I thought the weed eater was useless then I ended up changing it for a thicker one and to my surprise that was the issue! Now I don’t have to feed the cord as often AND I just realized if you are able to install the cord/string correctly then the weed eater auto feeds it! This is a nice machine for the price and I got the 2 year warranty for 10 dlls. I mean 90 days warranty plus 2 more years for a brand new one or money back pfff no brainer! (Keep in mind this weed eater is just for your own yard use don’t expect it to cut down an entire neighborhood) 😂
I plan a video for this weekend that covers that specific issue, on the warrenty, you can take it to the store on 1 year and 364 days and say I want another one and they will give you one (or a refund) no questions asked, sweet deal overall, but is a one time deal, once you take it back, the warrenty is used and over, so wait as long as possible- thanks for subscribing!
I've had mine for about 6 months, no problems, I'll do a follow up review next summer - I'm liking it, you should do a few test and make sure it not the cables, if you are using it with a long extension cord, it needs to be at least 12 gauge, there is significant current drop over a long distance (50-100 ft) on smaller gauge cables, I use 10 gauge, but I already had them for my generator, and I don't have to worry about current drop, thanks for subscribing!
I use a 12 gauge cable, I have them for my generators, and they cost about $1 a foot, but perform much better, but it really depends on how long the cable is, you can use an 18 guage gauge cable if its not to long - there is a length vs cable size table in most manuals for HF's electric tools - thanks for subscribing!
I'm not at all Impressed with the chainsaw my dad has one he hit a piece of wire in a log it bound the saw and caused a tooth on the ring gear to snap off which rendered the saw absolutely useless as the chain would no longer turn He bought another one and it working ok but he hasn't hit any thing With it yet

I recorded a short yesterday answering that specific question, it should be up in a day or so - thanks for subscribing!

the autofeed is different on these trimmers, run the trimmer wide open and the autofeeds works right thanks for subscribinjg!

I have the chainsaw, not for heavy duty use but does the job.
