This new M510 motor is really strong! Looking forward to sharing the next video! ps - this is a new frame, not the same one I did before. DENGFU revised the frame slightly (new charging port location and new battery cover that is quick release. Looks similar as they painted it THE EXACT same colours from my last video! Also, motor is the 2022 Bafang M510).
Thats 23.98kg with a 840wh battery!! That is lighter than my old carbon trek Powerfly which only had a 500wh battery. You might be able to put a smaller 400wh battery and get down to a sub 20kg bike with a few other mods.
Hello Rob Rides Emtb , we sell the same bikes - MAX CARBON here and we also use 550wh 52V custom batteries, which is almost 1kg lighter , which will bring your bike down to 23kg. VOLITION EBIKE Australia
Honest question: If you order a Shimano drivetrain from Aliexpress, how can you be sure that it is not a fake Shimano drivetrain? Interesting build btw!
In this day and age of £12k+ bikes I find builds like this really refreshing. Especially as this is a much more affordable price range for me and makes the prospect of owning an E-MTB more likely! I'm looking forward to seeing your video of it being ridden.
Loved the CHEEB. So glad you went for V2. This has to be one of your most popular videos. I only wish you had full parts list and an extended build video so an idiot like me can build by numbers 😂
Nice. You don't even need a headset bearing press. If you freeze the bearing cups. And use a gentle amount of heat from a heat gun or hair dryer on the frame. Then the differing thermal expansion rates let the bearing cups slip right into the frame. I did it exactly like that on my dengfu e22 (basically an e10 with a bigger motor).
Kudos to you Rob for showing us the Dengfu / Bafang combo again. You could have stuck with the major brands and milked it. Well done mate. Super keen for the next video.
Best Part About this Bike is the quality choice of real mountain bike parts and components. Not only that but you smartly choose high quality parts at good prices. Most pre-built Bafang Powered bikes out there are running a junk spec on drivetrain, brakes, wheels and tires. Well Done, I would love to see follow up reviewing this motor vs. other Bafang Motors like the BBSHD, Bafang Ultra, etc.
Just wanted to let you know that you inspired me to do my own build like this. Unfortunately dangfu didn’t have a xl frame other wise it would be a totally similar build. I was able to find another company and just finished. Thanks for the inspiration. By the way I named it CDIY.
I bought both my motorcycles for $3500 each and they will just last so much longer, better, faster, etc. that was back in 2006 when i realized there was no comparison, even till this day. but I love this video and how far technology has come!
I got one E-ten with the M600 and Formula Selva C for the front, I tell you it is a beast. Amazing bike, compare to what others brands do and price wise...clearly Dengfu is a pearl you need to think of when you move to e-mtb.
This seems like the perfect solution for me! I would only need the frame, electronics and suspension. I could just take the rest from my polygon T7 and complete the bike! Easily under $3k, maybe even $2500 if I find good deals on the suspension!
Helpful video - figured I need to build my own commuter e-bike to get what I want - a decent but not necessarily very powerful mid-drive motor, large battery, Rohlhoff E14 belt-driven hub, large enough ring to cog ratio to be able to reach 30 mph at maintainable cadence. ...and all this should be in a full suspension frame with 29" wheels and hydraulic brakes...
Good job showing an alternative way to get a eBike. Not so fast on the most powerful eBike......I have one of the original Bafang motors that outputs 160Nm of Torque. My battery is 52 volt 1100Ah....all put in an Luna Cycle Apollo...I love the bike for all it can do.
This was absolutely incredible and super inspiring! After watching this I certainly want to build my own e-bike. However, I want a road bike, not a mountain bike. Thanks a million for this!
You can definitely build an electric road bike, you may want to split the difference and do an E-gravel though because the extra motor/battery weight can feel ROUGH with no suspension in my experience
When are you going to drop an update video for this build (and motor specifically)? I think a lot of us are very curious of the differences. Also curious on your thoughts of building a bike like this versus buying an similarly priced entry level spec bike from a dealer with a good support network (Ex. Orbea Rise H30). Keep up the good content.
I've had mine since Rob did his original Cheeb build. I love it. With 150mm fr & rr and the more powerful M600 motor, it's a beast that I highly recommend 🤙
i built my Alloy version and now am building the M600 version in carbon. Carbon components where i can as well. Wheels are carbon, bars are carbon and so on. I have the Bafang motor controller programming kit and will update the amperage output as well. they run 18amp but the controller can safely go to 25amp. i will run 22amp and although i have the standard battery (840 watt) i will also build a custom battery as i did with my other bike. I have access through my work with a company in Japan to Sodium ion battery cells and aluminium graphine batteries. Using a conbination of both cells in one battery unit (requires 2 chargers sadly), i get over 1000 watts and the delivery is so good, that after 759 cycles on my current bike the battery still reports 99.97%. The drain I suspect is not the battery, but the degradation of the wiring between cells. Therefore my next battery with run a silicon wire we use in satellites. With my bikes i dissasemble the motors and seal the controller board with Urethane conformal sealant, and the joiners all have electrical greas on them. We also shrink seal any joins. the battery compartment is sealed as well and the bike has no issues if submerged. I am so excited with my carbon version.
That's why I love Chinese products. Nowadays, they produce cars, especially EVs and other electrical gadgets and products of European quality but at a much lower price. Not all of us can afford to buy American or European-made products so kudos to the Chinese and other Far Eastern countries.
I love the idea of this bike. However, I am wary of the way I would have to go about contacting and then paying for the frame. Also I would love to have some specs on the frame. Headtube angle and bearing sizes, Seatpost angles and size. Rear shock dimensions..etc...
Thanks for the inspiration! I'm seriously thinking about rebuilding my hardtail carbon framed bike to a ebike with a befang kit, but it's scare when you have no idea of what you are doing, hehe
super clean looking light full suspension ebike. the frame looks weak around the pivot point for the rear chainstay, tho. I’ve never rode a carbon frame, admittedly, so maybe my worries are mute.
Hi Rob , great project and a fantastically produced video. Much appreciated. You say this is an Dengfu E10 but I can’t see that frame available on their website and the other frames seemed to have seriously jumped up in price. There is an E04 currently selling for $879 but the E05 is $2,499 , E06 $2549 and E14 $2399!! How did you ever get that price for that frame?? Thanks again
Very nice! I have two Deng-Fu mountain bike frames with Bafang M600 motors. One has 3000 miles and the other 1200 miles. Both of them technical trail and gravel road riding. I think the M600 has more power than the M510? Also, I have 14S Samsung battery pack and 52 volt battery. Both bikes are Luna X1's. I tried to get a Deng-Fu frame and build one but Deng-Fu will not sell to US and Canada. Luna has an exclusive with Deng-Fu. No big deal, I really like my Luna X1's. Could be a great option for someone who already owns a regular mountain bike, and looking to go the e bike route. I know not all components are compatible, but you could try and by just the frame, motor and battery, and repurpose most of your current components. Do you know if they have frames for different wheel sizes, and for different suspension travels?
