I love my ddj 200. For the size and price it is an amazing bit of kit. I only use mine for taking round to mates houses for small parties. For that it is ideal and I keep my proper set up at home. Also for a beginners point of view you can’t go wrong.
The DDJ-400 can be used with an iPhone or iPad since it is compatible with Djay pro, but with a lightning/USB adapter. Depending on what ports you have on your device, you would need either the Lightning to USB3 Camera Adapter or a USB-C Digital AV Multiport Adapter. Personally, I find the DDJ-400 best on Rekordbox. I use a Numark Mixtrack Platinum with Djay pro on my iPhone. Still, not ideal for a professional gig, but I like to use it for small house party with Djay pro + Spotify, having a large library of tracks to work with.
@@Crossfader Very true! I forgot to mention that. The DDJ-400 is best with Rekordbox. Mixtrack Platinum and I think maybe the pro3 would be better suited for Djay Pro. BTW, thank you for taking the time to read and respond.
I own the XDJ-RX and love it, but with the road case, it is extremely heavy and big. Something, which is a pain to travel with. So, I bought the DDJ-200, which fits with a laptop and a small external audio interface into a small Backpack. The whole package is relatively light. However, I regret not investing into a bigger backpack and getting the DDJ-400. With the DJ-200, you're just extremely depending on the laptop for jumping que points, checking levels, loading tracks and control gain or the headphone mix. Yes, it works, but I find it not really enjoyable. The DDJ-200 comes with a mono splitter cable, which allows to pre-listen and play mono without an additional audio interface. If you need stereo, a small USB audio interface can do the job. If you go the cheap route, you can just combine a Behringer UCA222/ UCA202 with the internal audio to one audio device using ASIO4ALL under Windows or Soundflower on the Mac. (I did not test the Mac setup myself.) This setup allows to play stereo through the audio interface to the room and using the headphone jack to pre-listen in stereo. The question is: do you really need stereo? A party is not an audiophile environment and club systems (if you dare to bring the DDJ-200 into the DJ booth of a club) are often mono, anyways.
I got my 1200's and my DDJ-1000 for the regular day to day practice and I absolutely LOVE my DDJ-200 on holidays or if I need to test a few transitions betwen a few tracks when I am away from the studio... really depends what your needs are but I wouldn't trade my ddj200 for a ddj 400 with the gear I have.. obviously.
My normal set up is the turntable and mixer . i have the ddj 400. the sound card is pretty good. used it for a small gig with two power speakers. really good product. i think the 200 is great for new DJ's who are not sure DJ is what they what to do yet
(first time DJ here) What appeals to me about the DDJ 200 is how portable it is. I can hook it up to a cell phone charging bank and I can dj out in the middle of a park! But can I do the same with the DDJ 400? I want the extra features and Reckord Box license but I also want to throw down a spontaneous mix wherever I am! But can you run a DDJ 400 off USB power cord plugged into a Tablet? I have a Microsoft surface pro 3
Ddj 200 is perfect for carrying around. I use ddj 200 when I go to house parties ir when I go to beach. It gets the job done! Not a toy controller at all. Just grab your ddj 200, your phone and you are all set sir!
i'm a vinyl dj but have just moved into a tiny apartment and don't want to rebuy speakers and bunch of other stuff so I think DDJ200 is good for me. If I get a gig out, I'll just play my vinyl.
The only thing I really miss is pad mode buttons. It really takes me out of the moment to go to the pc or phone for this. Other than that I really dig how portable and comprehensible tbe DDJ 200 is.
Nice video. Looking to pick up a mixing table soon. Never done never tried it before, but after a weekend of backing up my music and organizing my music, I have peaked an interest. Seems like a fun hobby as thats how I am treating it right now.
What's the difference with a full licence and the unlock? I thought you could use RB for free always to prepare your mixes. And us the RB DJ for performance
if you buy a usb3 camera adapter they’re roughly £29 or $25 just plug the usb into the cable and plug your iphone charger into the wire it allows enough energy to charge your phone and to power your ddj 400
im swapping my 200 for a 400. the manual loop and the extra buttons above the pads will make things so much quicker. using the mouse with recordbox is too slow. not to mention the soundcard! and FX
@crossfader Hi! Just have a enquiry - my dad wants to start out using modern decks. Just wondering, my dad has a Samsung galaxy A50 - would it be possible for him to use the application on this phone? Or would he need something more substantial like a tablet or MacBook/windows. Thanks
I’m drawn towards the 200 mainly because of the fact of how portable it is as well as how you can use it with your phone, ipad and even a laptop, whereas the 400 you can only use with a laptop

Bit of false info, Mono sound quality isn’t any different to stereo the difference is mono is a single Chanel as in it plays L&R signals through 1 channel. Stereo has separate L&R channels the actual output quality is no different.
The ddj 200 i would connect it to my phone but does that mean the sound comes out of my phone? Also if I wanted to record it could I just screenrecord?
What are the buttons that DDJ200 miss and are those buttons really useful in everyday DJing? I guess my ultimate question would be, would those buttons be used on every mix? Because if so, it looked like using those buttons on either the Rekordbox or WeDJ app looked pretty painful and cumbersome to use.
So say that i want to preform at a convention (anime, games ect.) The ddj 200 would only have a mono output but what if i pluged the speakers into the laptop i have the deck pluged into. Would that fix the mono issue? I wanted to buy my first deck and i have a program called virtual dj on my laptop and would plug the audio stuff into said laptop and wanted to know if this would work.
@@JohnSmith-iu8cj thanks! Since I posted this I've DJ'd for 3 anime conventions and bought a ddj-sb2. I've done a handful of online events as well and it's thanks to channels like this and others that help beginner DJs that I have the career that I do! 💖
@@mrblend I've never tried any, i have to say that recordbox would be much better form me :D I can say that now having t1 and traktor. But i dont regret buing it - its an amazing piece of equipment.
Hi there! Awesome review video!!! Is it possible for me to record and/or stream my dj set on platforms such as Instagram, RUclips or Facebook??? Thanks a lot! Best regards

We have done this ourselves and it does work okay, however the effects controls don't work very well due to the mapping.

1:12 is what sold me on the 400 immediately

I liked the video because you guys are cool & make good content but I think the 200 is a toy... the 400 is the Beginner controller

How is it
İs it Worth it
As I want to learn how to be dj, I'll start with ddj200. While learning, I'll be stepping forward and buy the one I need.
I suggest the DDJ 400 to start.

you got me at 1:15 that i don' even need to consider ddj 200
Can you mix with Spotify on the dj400?
Yes
@@turbodaniel5731 no you can't
You can plug the DDJ 400 into a PA system just use a stereo DI box and you have Balanced output.

I own turntables and a big denon controller I’m buying one of these to take on holiday when I got to weekenders etc so can mix tunes in my room
Can you use Bluetooth speakers like UE with the Ddj 200s?

How to get a stereo signal from the 200 when using the speaker/headphone monitoring?
A Sublime explanation of both
I’m drawn towards the 200 mainly because of the fact of how portable it is as well as how you can use it with your phone, ipad and even a laptop, whereas the 400 you can only use with a laptop
The flx4 ( new 400) has Bluetooth and wired for phones and that

I bought the ddj 200 and I'd like to use an external USB interface instead of the split mono cable. Is it possibile?
Thank you. Very helpful vid x
I’m really new to this but what’s a DJ license code ?
why is the microphone jack on the back of the unit and not the front.
Bit of false info, Mono sound quality isn’t any different to stereo the difference is mono is a single Chanel as in it plays L&R signals through 1 channel. Stereo has separate L&R channels the actual output quality is no different.
The 400 can you plug in a amplifier then run speakers off the amp?
Does the 200 work with Serato Lite on Windows 10?
With the 400, will there be that slight delay when operating channels, buttons and effects as with the 200?
The ddj 200 i would connect it to my phone but does that mean the sound comes out of my phone? Also if I wanted to record it could I just screenrecord?
The reason they bring out these cheaper options is to keep people on their brand for when they progress.
this might be a dumb question but can you hook them up to a desktop? cuz i dont have a laptop
sure..

It ain't got a gain or fx and a few others but you can get fx from the phone/tablet

Late to the party but with a laptop you can have stereo if you have two separate outputs or if you use a second sound card via usb.
