We in Ukraine are testing elrs and crossfire in the war against Russia. Fpv drones are now the most effective weapons. At first we used crossfire, but when it started to be jammed, everyone switched to elrs, because it can be flashed to a frequency of 700 to 1000 MHz. Although we have already learned how to flash crossfire on Frequency-hopping spread spectrum, it should work on the frequency range if it is jammed and rssi drops, but I have not personally tested it yet.
Such information, if true, should be kept secret.

120m AGL isn't much and if you plan on going higher you need approval. it would be better to put your drone without props on a tree in the mountains arm it and drive away till you lose signal

Bandit has been insanely stable even in closer proximity vs even my ELRS quads. Could be the 1W module vs 250 in my zorro but I have been impressed so far.
Would a penetration test measure the same performance features as a long distance test? I switched to CRSF from Frsky years ago - for the better penetration - as I'm always flying in forest.
If tomorrow the LOS rule went away, I don’t think a proper range test could be done because the maximum altitude rule would be a limiting factor much like testing with a ground vehicle would limit the range. I don’t think testing with a ground vehicle is useless though because at least that’s a use case for the system. I bet range testing over water would be interesting and never seen that. I know that flying over water tends to improve the range but don’t know if the range would be improved if on the water surface.

No sorry that doesn't work. Because 50 Mbps DJI or walksnail also uses 2x bandwidth. Double bitrate + double bandwidth = same range. The phrase, all else being equal, applies.
I'm surprised anyone is even making long range stuff when you can't test it and really shouldn't be flying long range you can't really show your results so what's the point
