Angels Fall First (AFF) - Fortress (Max Difficulty AI) WTF Have they Done to the Difficulty?

Wow, I've not played this for a while. This is the latest Update 29 (hotfix#1).
The difficulty has ramped up crazy high. The game was never this difficult, even on Max Level Difficulty AI (AI Skill Level 5). To win, I had to cheese at the end. Being Infantry was almost always instadeath in seconds!
