The car's Owner is Frank Cirino Jr. Frank’s had this car since 2011. Frank shares his Friend Jack had this car and let him drive it once. The drive made a big impression on Frank on how much he liked the car. Jack passed away. Frank shared with Jack’s wife Louise that if she ever sold the car, he’d be interested in the car. ¡Saludos cordiales, Lou!

I had those Fridge Door handles on my '64 Fargo pickup truck. The unique thing about those latches was that if you wanted to be quiet, you could pull the door handle with one hand while carefully shutting the door with your other hand and when you let go of the handle, there'd be no noise. If you did it like that you'd hear no latch clicks whatsoever.
But what an awesome car and so incredibly rare. I've never seen one before. And whenever you hear a hemi flash up when is it not exciting?!? Thanks Lou, you're the best!

Yes - Very Rare Car( Very Fast) and was my Dad's Favorite Car. 1956 Dodge D500 with 315 Hemi - Why. My Dad was a California Highway Patrolman 1951 to 1978. In 1956 the CHP got their First Dodge Patrol Car - 1956 dodge 2dr Sedan D500 with the 315 Hemi performance package. My Dad was stationed in Oroville Ca. in 1956 to 58. A small Station of about 18 Officer's. So my Dad and another Officer had 1 car assigned to them with they traded off from day shift to night shift and kept at their homes back then in smaller Stations. This D500 with that Hemi was Very Fast - would peg the needle at the 120 mph on Spedometer and still go a few mph more. This is the only Hemi ever put in any of the CHP Dodge Patrol Cars and was my Dad's Favorite - took me for a ride several times and got on it - Wow !! couldn't do that today. The CHP Dodge's of the 1960's had 413 & 440 wedges. And You have an original D500 56 Royal Lancer - Thank You for a good overview and for starting it up - bring's many good memories from 1956 -57 when I was 11 yrs old.

Beautiful Example of a 1956 Dodge. You might see others, but this is a D500 and we don't see many of these. Great colores! Great detail as usual. Long name for a car! The 1957-1959 Dodge's were so iconic that these are sometimes loverlooked. Dodge kind of lost its way in the early 60's, especially the unattractive 1961. Lou what a very special and beautiful car. I wish you would have done a more thorough job of videoing the cruise in information board that was in the trunk. It was mentioned that the D-500 was a rare option but you didn't follow up with questions about it. I will continue watching your show because of rare finds like this. My hope is that important details, in future My Car Stories, will be included.

I owned a 1956d 500 the d500 was specially built to compete in NASCAR also it was the first pure stock car to exceed 100 mph in the quarter mile. The Dodge D500 would have been dominant in NASCAR in 1956 if it was not for the Chrysler C300 which had 39 more cubic inches.

I won my class in my 1956 D500 ;two years in a row 1987 1988 in the La Carrera classic road race in Mexico totally stock it was capable of running 130mph Plus. Maybe the best handling American car of the era. They had special heavy-duty suspension and imperial brakes.

Designed by Virgil M. Exner Sr. and Maury Baldwin. The Dodge D-500 was a high performance package for Dodge only, with the crossed flags emblem, from 1956 to 1959. It was only offered on the Dodge Royal Lancer model (top of the line, equivalent to the 1956 Plymouth Belvedere). Exner did something different with Plymouth: he created a completely new stand-alone model, the 1956 Plymouth Fury, introduced in January 1956. There was no stand-alone high performance model for Dodge in these years, only the D-500 Hemi Red Ram V8 engine, 315 cubic inches for 1956, at 275 HP.
There was a 1956 Dodge stand-alone model introduced, but it was not high performance. It was aimed at the women's market, a feminine version of the Dodge Royal Lancer, called La Femme. It was moderately successful, with feminine accessories included in the glove box. Ladies liked it but not enough buyers bought it so it did not return for 1957.
