Thanks Clay. I really appreciate your videos and emphasis on bringing about change by doing something much different than the good old rut. I like to drop in on your videos to tune up my game and I always find them useful. Keep up the good work.
Really informative video. I appreciate your thorough explanation of setting up the baskets for the drill. A ton of important information to unpack when I practice today. Thank you.
I will try that drill before our Sat comp tomorrow. If I royally mess myself up I won't blame you! :-) Perfect for my game at this time - it's a shot I depend on and lately it's been a bit scrappy so many thanks and cheers from Sydney - Dave
This reminds me of my favorite instructor, an LPGA player. She once told me, "Sometimes you have to practice hitting bad shots to be able to hit good shots."
Greetings - to simplify things, could you not close the face during your initial setup, (point club face left of target), then grip the club to initiate a draw? Thank you.
I recently just bought the new Callaway Apex and am having alot of trouble shaping the ball. I think I should have went with at least the PRO's because I went with the standard ones for the forgiveness.
Hi Clay, do you recommend this training also with Driver ? Is it a good idea to try the same type of exercises(but inverses) for the fade ? Regards, Vincent.
I hit a major slice with everything when starting about a year ago. Now I can’t play a fade when I need to… I have no idea what happened. I either hit a draw or a hook.
Yeah, that works.... Controlling it is another story.... Watch the ball go hard left. The face controls direction. The path controls curve, or lack of curve.
@@shanedeel2 np just be careful. I was the samr way always fade and bad slices...worked hard to get a draw/hook and now my swing is so messed up half the time im hooking it left of the faurway instead of right with a slice..
Clay, why is the draw considered the preferred shot vs a straight shot or a fade? I'm a lefty so is a draw still the shot I want even though it's curving left to right? I've heard it adds more topspin giving you more distance vs a fade. Is that why?
It’s because the best players to ever play the game all hit draws. Another reason is because you’re standing on the side of the golf ball at address. Doesn’t make sense to swing over top rather than underneath the swing plane. Nothing wrong with a fade. You can still fade the ball swinging in to out (push fade). Make yourself aware of the 9 ball flight laws. All cause and effect from path and face angle at impact. In my opinion though, we all are not tiger woods or the Arnold Palmer’s of the world. It’s all about the shot you can consistently repeat over and over. Do what works for you. Golf is a game of misses, even the best players admit they may only hit a few shots per round the way they wanted to. You can imagine a miss from them would generally be a great shot for the average golfer. Curving the golf ball one way or another consistently, takes one side of the course out of play.
listen to F Bigtech. For 15 years i played a fade. stopped playing for 5 years. Now I have switched to a draw. Anything that you can do consistently is good. With my fade i could stop on the green quicker but not as long, with my draw it is longer but a mis-hit drive can be worse (a high fade too far right lands softer/safer than a low draw gone left). But, if you draw it, your friends will think you are cool.

You are always very informative and get into detail with exactly how to take the shot correctly...There should be no way anyone dislikes learning, you got some haters clay LOL..
Why not just take a closed stance to the right and close your club face at address? Then take a normal swing Ala Corey Pavin who always changed club face angles before initiating a swing and not during.
I'm sure a lot of amateurs will thank you for making them more handsy and flippy. Gee, why can't I hit the ball before the ground, and why do I keep shanking?
Hahaha... this is so complicated. Check out Jim Venetos, who teaches a swing with no shoulder turn, no weight shift and no swing thoughts, and virtually guarantees an inside-out, circular descending strike that produces a nice tight draw with power, every time.
Great lesson! Great communicator! Gankas overwhelms me. You keep it simple. Many thanks.
What a Great Drill !!!!!
Good Job explaining it

Really enjoyed that video. Great lesson!
Outstanding teaching
I'll give it a try.
Would this roll release be very timing dependent as opposed to body release / passive release?
This reminds me of my favorite instructor, an LPGA player. She once told me, "Sometimes you have to practice hitting bad shots to be able to hit good shots."
I always enjoy your instruction Clay. Can I just ask what size divots you take? I guess you pick it off the top....would that be right?
Tks for the pro teaching. Which I can’t afford.
Clay Thanks this is a very helpful video!
Great drill man thank you!
this is so good
Clay is a human Iron Byron !!!
Great instructor
I must be really good because I hit it 45 degrees to the left without even trying. Sometimes 45 degrees to the right too!
That was unbelievable
You're swing is fantastic
hi Clay! does this apply to all irons? or just mid irons and long irons? thanks!

Me too! I over-fixed my slice haha
grips too strong
yep, now trying to go back to a high fade and can't do it for the life of me
Jcasey...try shallowing your club a bit more and be sure to move your weight forward onto your left foot. If that doesn't work weaken your grip.
What kind of mat is that?
Love that your simulator is showing Axis Tilt and not BOGUS Side Spin.
brilliant video and explanation. tks man :-)
Loved this video.

Hit my first draw ever in over a year of trying! It was a massive draw!

Clay all day!
Is this possible with driver? I would love to be able to hit a push draw with driver.
Yes. Swing in to out with the face closing. Make sure the club head is moving slightly out at impact, or it will turn into a duck hook.
The timing at impact to draw a club is much harder than fading one. That’s why DJ switched and so many tour players play a fade
Why do we want to do this? Should this be a regular shot with all clubs?
snap hook with my over the top move
Sorry about my 1st comment I really enjoy ur drills
Any reason not to just hit it straight towards the target???
Once you make the push draw your swing, it's all you have. so hard to hit a fade when needed
yeah i'd like to see him talk about how to hit fades when you've grooved such a swing as your default
I feel like I'm flipping trying to get the timing of the hands releasing at impact
Timing has to be perfect. I like the passive release.
I tried to get that tennis racket video a while back and you just spammed the hell out of my email
nothing worse than overzealous email marketing. NOTHING!
There has to be a better way. Too many variables here. Maybe Moe is right?

Don't stress, DJ plays a fade, and he's done alright...
Lol. Push draw is def not the easiest way for me to hit good shots. The fade is 100% natural for me. Draws not so much.

I would have bought whatever he is selling in the first 2 minutes of the this video but I still don't know how much it is.
