The remaster frankly made the matchmaking worse, if anything. Using the DkS3 weapon level system made no sense in a game not even a tenth as linear as the game they lifted that system from. Just picking up the lightning spear in Sen's immediately screwed up your matchmaking, and catalysts being excluded from the system entirely is what gave rise to the dark bead plague in the first place. They fixed elemental weapon twinking, only to introduce half a dozen other problems.

My biggest problem with twinks is that I brought two copies of elden ring to play with my girlfriend. She had never played anything but valorant in her life, so naturally she very intimidated already. This guy with a weapon that two shot us (some straight sword buffed with magic) invades us, spams parry knowing that our weapons do next to no damage to him, parries and kills both of us and does the point down at her before leaving. This made her swear to never play the game again. I somehow convinced her to play thanks to seamless co-op but I will never forgive that guy for ruining the first time experience of what is already a very intimidating game for new players, and almost wasting my money. Shoutout to the dev of Seamless co-op for saving me, and i suspect plenty of others who just wanted to get a friend or partner into the beautiful world of elden ring.

Keep in mind it’s Elden Ring, not Dark Souls IV. A lot of standard quality that you’d expect from a Souls title such as player balance, covenants, unique encounters, obscure mechanics, long lasting quest lines and player incentives are not fully present in this game.
Another jarring thing is you’ll find that you won’t die to the environment very often. A lot of map design in Elden Ring was just made to look nice; not to act as an additional challenge alongside the enemies.

I'll say that it's a bit of a step up from DS3 in terms of general difficulty in some cases, but is also easier than it in others. I will say that DS3 is the closest Dark Souls game to the gameplay of Elden Ring and that a lot of what you learned will be applicable. Overall, you'll likely have a good time of it.

An invader veteran had this piece of wisdom regarding this; "I can't make you play the game the way I want, and you can't make me play the game the way you want." At the end of the day we're all internet strangers who happen to interact through the game mechanics for a relatively brief period, and we have no idea what kind of players the other part has run into before it was our turn. So if you want to be a friendly invader and/or goofball, there's absolutely nothing stopping you from doing so. Just don't expect people who potentially sit half a world away to play by the rules you made up in your head.

Hosts having less estus than invaders? Unless we're talking about twinks that is a complete lie because estus charges get halved when you invade. If you are getting one-shotted... Maybe level up vigor? On ds3 you can't oneshot the same way that you can on elden ring, it's waaay less common (the only true early "one-shot" comes from dark hand L2, so either you don't roll or have 0 vigor).

@@boyishdude1234 stun-lock builds?? Man, you're fat-rolling? R1 into R1 is a true combo, but aside from that there are barely other stunlocks unless you don't know how to time rolls/are encumbered.
Dark souls 3 being linear? You can skip most of the game to end bosses, that's exactly how you get a twink. If you can't, you are simply not that good. You can literally beat dancer, Iudex Gundyr, Oceiros and all the dlcs before reaching the first lord of cinder if you have the hands to do that.
Invasions are griefing? Man it's a game mechanic. It's a conscious decision from the developers to put invaders in your way if you want to coop. If you don't like it, don't play coop and beat the game alone.
If you really think that invaders are too much for your playthroughs, don't wanna play alone and don't like that mechanic a bit... i'm sorry, but maybe you should try another game. There are plenty of games that offer a seamless coop experience, why tf would you play souls if you don't like them?
Also, poison is gaaaarbage on DS3. The only game where it worked was DS1 and maaaaybe DS2, but even then the game gives you enough herbs to counter it.

in DS1 I got myself some super high level armor and just enough strength to use the black knight ultragreatsword. I tested it against my friends and upgraded it so the heavy two handed would come just shy of oneshotting most builds. I then got dusk's bow and the "very good" carving. I would then invade but only move and attack like a boss of the game. I was difficult to hurt normally and my sword was scary but not one-hit deadly. Whenever the low level player managed to parry me or backstabbed me or lured me into a dangerous setup where they had and advantage I would drop "very good". And players did learn quite well all these basic skills I was trying to teach them. That's how you do low level invading with high level gear properly.
I would naturally reward my students with a humanity and jump off the ledge when I was done.
Edit: I would also do this with dual shields and super high level armor with the name "backstab tutorial" basically letting new players practice dealing with shield turtling. I would never attack but I would roll. Another thing I would do is invade with the weapons with wonky hitboxes (scythe, whip, etc) but the weapons would be broken so they would do like no damage. I think the name I picked was like "Learn Hitbox" or something like that. I would stand in place and do the same attack over and over. Not locked on. usually they would get curious and walk into one attack. upon realizing it did like no damage they would move around and figure out where the hitbox was.

I like darksouls.. I never knew there was a term for people like that.. I exclusively play DSR, and +5 Chaos Zweihander Giant-dads and dark bead spammers are plentiful abound..
I just don't pvp at all, and never will.. When I get invaded, I wait for them to catch up to me, turn to them, do the "can't use item" shrug, and alt-f4.
Due to desync making parries impossible, and how simple the combat system is, PVP simply is not skill based.. It's all numbers and gear, and whoever has the biggest is going to win most of the time.
I have been that "scaredy cat" more times than I can remember.. I just don't trust people anymore, I was ravaged by backstab-hungry psychopaths and tryhards one too many times.. I've seen invaders try to be sporting.. I don't care.. I'm not here to PvP, I don't care if you do a little dance, or keep your distance and stalk me, I'm not fighting you..
The only two exceptions I make to that rule, is if they're a darkmoon blade, or if they drop a humanity.. If an invader drops a humanity, they are making it clear they want you to fight them with no fear, and no anger.. By offering you a humanity, they're removing the stakes.. At that point, you're no longer fighting for your life, because you aren't losing anything if you die.. When they offer me a humanity, I will fight them, even if I absolutely know I'm going to lose, because at that point, they've payed the toll, and I'll give them some entertainment, even if it's just as pointless fodder.
The darkmoon blades are basically the darksouls police.. If I've been invaded by one, I will take my lumps like a man and face them righteously, win or lose.
Now, if an invader tries to drop/offer you an indictment? They're the biggest dick-sucking egotistical walking blob of cancer, and even a highly-respected tryhard PvP'er should alt-f4 against them, out of sheer disrespect..

Twinks have ruined pvp in the series, and the pvp community has no one but themselves to blame. I remember watching guys like Otzdarva and others absolutely destroying casual players, mocking them, calling them gankers for trying to hide behind phantoms, and promoting this mindset that pvp players are justified no mattered how toxic or mean spirited they act.
It was the perfect breeding ground for twinks. And now, those same guys complain that Invaders are so disadvantaged like it wasn't their fault it turned out that way.
My experience, having spent the majority of my time, in Elden Ring especially, playing coop with my friends and siblings is that running into an invader that provides a positive pvp experience is roughly 1-in-10. With the other 9 being twinks, meta-gamers, or other varieties of seal-clubbers. Unless I'm running my high level character, coop just isn't possible since, like clockwork, a negative experience invader shows up at every possible interval. Even as an overleveled phantom, I still die the majority of times since I'm just not that good at pvp, it's just the only way to make survival possible.
Twinks and toxic meta-gamers have ruined pvp in the series and have no one but themselves to blame. The early pvp community that treated this negative pvp experience as a joke or justified it have cemented it. Even to this day coop pve players are maligned as gankers, and twinks send vile messages bragging or degrading their opponents. It's just as toxic as it's ever been and I don't think it will ever change.

Max fully upgraded flasks, end game weapons and AoW. for the most part they were all terrible at the game, but it essentially cause west limgrave to take about 2 to 3 times as long to finish. It was always, summon or get summoned, wait for invader, fight for god knows how long, die or return to our world after the fight so we could rest, resummon, play the game. Drove me up a god damn wall. Luckily seamless coop got announced a week later and we waited for that to come out. Never coop'd without it again, never looked back. Twinks ruin these games for a lot of people. The other souls games don't have a seamless co op mod. FromSoft needs to find a better solution to this nonsense. Perhaps they could do matchmaking based on flasks?

      @maj.peppers3332 6 месяцев назад +1

@@00McMuffin00 the problem then moves towards the talismans, or the physick tears, or the ashes of war, or any other item that new players are not going to be aware of. I think Waifu hit the nail on the head, the crux of the issue is skill. I've finished the game, and started a second playthrough to play with a friend, and every twink invasion was a gamble (we're beyond twink world at this point lol). That is, if they weren't good at the game, then I could wreck them even with a bastard sword and lordsworn's greatsword only (no special endgame ashes, physick tears or anything like that, just good ol greatsword bonking, and gear from Limgrave). On the other hand, the competent twinks would just tear through my friend, and possibly me.
Competition is inherently a display/measure of skill. Take away all the power-boosting nonsense that twinks have and if they are better, they will still win. The problem really boils down to "how do you ensure that matchmaking is truly skill-based?". If I'm just starting to learn some martial art, the black belt doesn't come down for sparring just to pummel me and then walk away. They will match you up with other fighters of similar skill thresholds, since that will allow for a smooth learning curve. But, how do you truly measure skill in an online video game?
PvP is unfair by nature, and even more so in open-world RPG's (where things are intentionally unbalanced). If FromSoft's answer to people asking for co-op is to also put them into PvP situations, then you're going to get a lot of casual fans who are annoyed that (for the sake of the metaphor) black belts are walking into their training sessions just to show off how good they've gotten over the last 10 years.

I won't protect Invaders as much as I won't protect Coopers.
But ffs... Invasions should be something you allow. In DS3 it wasn't that big of a problem. It was an event, like once in a hour at worst.
But here, in Elden Ring (using password to be clear) it's a constant bombardment of invaders. It's not surprising why Coopers hate Invaders and Vice Versa. It's a self propelled wheel of hatred and let's be honest for a second.
Souls games are primarily a Single Player PvE game. It have Coop and PvP parts, but neither are as core as Single Player.
And ER made Coop/Invasions interactions a complete nightmare.
That's why mods like Seamless Coop exist. Not because people hate Invasions as a mechanic, but because FromSoftware made such a mess and one group tries to get into someone's party and make shit right in the center of the carpet. And people are complaining WHY Coopers hate Invaders.
And one more thing: Twink have the same problem as a Scrub. It's not equipment, not build, not a lvl... But attitude.

Actually I don't know what goes first - twinks or gankers? My first ER invasion was on lvl 9 only with Limgrave equipment and I've met host with 2 over leveled phantoms who spammed tons of magic and AoW... I guess a single guy with decent armor, 4 talismans and a wide arsenal is respected but not as dangerous as a bunch of spamming players. Especially including the fact that you can't invade solo players at all (except bonfire duelist).

I like to invade at different locations which requires multiple save files at different rune levels and upgrade levels. That means if I want to invade Limgrave through Stormveil with any consistency I have to be between RL 15+0 to RL 30+3/1.
Sounds good right? Well it would be if password summons were properly downscaled. I've been four shot swift glintstone and hit with a GUGS that bleeds in one hit. So basically I have to twink to at least some degree if I don't want those scum players to tea bag me without earning it.
The trick imo is to know when to play nice with the honest fresh players and when to chuck a pot of Millicent's bathwater.

Honestly I think Elden Ring twinks are way more powerful than any DS twinks.
DS1 - yes, you had the neat feture of spells and catalysts not scaling and upgrading resulting in every player using dark bead getting everyone oneshot. But at least there were few guys with the resilience to play through the game on sl1 all the way to the DLC. Twinks are usually garbage at PvE anyways.
Dark Souls 2 points are valid, but soul memory/weapon matchmaking system was deliberately made to counter twinks and not many guys really used that anti-sm ring from Straid.
Dark Souls 3's twink weapon was the dark hand, which mainly capitalized on having no requirements and dark damage having extremely low resistances, especially ealy game. But other than that, it was short, and very easily interceptable. Everyone used it, so everyone learned to counter it.
The thing with Elden Ring is the open world doesn't put any barriers in front of wannabe twinks to get absolutely broken in like 30 minutes without cheats. Thanks to Rya, things like the bullgoat set antspur and the winged CT are obtainable literally 20 minutes after launching a fresh character. Just infuse it with cold, put poison mist on it and you instantly have 3 status effects that are literally uncounterable for new players under rl30.
I never go overleveled, and it was a pain in the butt to protect my very beginner friends from these scumbags. Especially since they still feel cowardly in ther broken gear and rather rush under a random runebears ballsacks than face my sacred blade starting halberd. Not to mention the golden seed abundance basically lets everyne stock up on more heals than a 3-man party in like 30 minutes.

Speaking specifically to low level Invasions (30 and below) Imo some level of later level gear dependency is necessary for *most* Invasions. As the game's lifecycle has gotten older the amount of hosts with summons around their own level is much less than the ones with overleveled summons.
No, you don't need dragon Halberd or whatever
But I would defend elemental infusions and Carian retaliation if you want any chance doing any damage against players with 100+ levels of base defense more than you.
I feel like when this becomes an issue is when people use these things when they honestly don't need to. Carian retaliation and spark aromatic will one shot a host most of the time and that will end the invasion in seconds. Which isn't fun, so idk why people do that, you're just turning it into a loading screen simulator for everyone.
So I guess I'm defending gear dependency *if used in reaction to what I feel is appropriate*

It was a fun series, and he dominated in invasions as usual, he also demonstrated that with the proper game knowledge you could make easily accessible equipment very powerful.

There’s a difference between twinkers and low lvl pvp builds. Some of the only low lvl, toxic twink builds involve relying completely on Rot (Antspur), Consumable Spam, Dragon Halberd, or Stormhawk King. They offer very low survivability for people they invade against because the damage output is not balanced for that level.
Every other build sub lvl 30 are typically honest and are looking for fight clubs, or 1v3s…which can involve getting ganked by overleveled summons…who usually just drop end game gear for their friends, which imo is on the same level of toxic play as legit twinkers.

In ds3, if I get invaded and the invader bows at my party, I understand that they want a fair fight and I'll send my summons in one by one to fight them rather than just trying to beat the shit outta them to continue making progress in the level. Honestly, don't know how far you have to go before it's twinking in Elden Ring. It's kinda an open world game, and anyone could theoretically have anything that isn't in Leyndel or beyond. Like if you're invading the crustacean nation (I absolutely remember the giant swamps name, I swear), you could get to Mohg's next by invading 3 people and grab something from there. Anyone could feasibly do this and end up grabbing stuff from there.
Would killing Blaid or Weapon Arts guy first meeting for their legendary equipment and armor count, all of which are in Limgrave.
Does simply going like 50 feet into Caelid and grabbing some stuff count? Like: Radagons Sore Seal, something many people b-line to effortlessly in like 10 minutes. Especially since I wound up there very early, within my first hour of playing, and grabbing a bunch of stuff.
The open world aspect kinda does make me think about "how far can I go out of my way for equipment before I am the bad guy?".

If "pvp" were their goal, there is much more fun pvp to be had at the designated levels. Instead they all come in with max flasks, gimmick builds people can't deal with (like rot in Stormveil), or 1 of 2 weapons with hyperarmor weapon arts (dragon polearm and storm axe).
