Sam thanks appreciated. I’m a big question asked myself, all the time. So want to give as much information as I can, to help anyone make they decision on what to do, if they are considering the military. As a whole in the Army, obviously me being Royal Irish some content will be specific to my Regiment, it’s a brilliant Regiment, some amazing Rangers with in doing some really cool stuff. Definitely a platform for success where you can develop as much as your willing to go .
I’m from the republic, wanted to join the defence forces as a kid but as I grew up I realised where the action was and it’s not where our boys deploy to, met with a recruitment officer in Enniskillen gonna make the leap very soon to the RIR much better career choice, keep the videos coming more lads like me will come across this channel and make the same choice.
Great video mate, just got told I'll have to wait to January before I can go to basic cause the Royal Irish is full, slightly gutted but it gives me more time to prepare
Tyrin M January 2020? If so not to bad mate, will give you those extra couple of months to prep, like you said . Also time to enjoy Christmas, then new year new you 💪
Ranger Media thank you so much it’s a honour and I am going for infantry Yorkshire regiment hopefully that’s my goal 😁cheers buddy and well done for all you have done for Britain 🇬🇧
John Kiltcher yeah there’s one spot for an officer in the platoon, platoon commander which is the rank of Capt, After serving a term in the role of platoon commander in a rifle coy platoon you can apply to go recce after
John the platoon commanders in support company (the specialised platoons) tend to have more experienced officers (Capt) as their platoon commanders, where as platoon commanders in a rifle company tend to be Lt or 2Lt. Reccy platoon will have one officer, the platoon commander. Sniper platoon tend not to have an officer and usually have a Csgt as their platoon commander, however having an officer can happen.
Didn't take my chance to join, these videos are great though. Back when I was of age, the videos were mostly extremely sanitised footage with a "Queens English" BBC VoiceOver with absolutely no information about the job itself.
Can you wear glasses in the infantry (such as a rifle man or paras) and my eye aren't terrible but if they were to get quit bad could I still join? Thank you
Ryan Davies not sure on exact requirements mate, I’ve yet to hear about anyone having major dramas with wearing glasses for medical etc so you should Be fine
Many people have glasses in the Infantry, however from my experience, it tends to be a deal breaker in Snipers (I beleive it shouldn't necessarily be).
My brother has been in army for afew months now in infantry to become a snipper he loves it and just passed his driving test one said you can get all your licences is that true this is highly persuading me to join and I'd love to be a sniper and iv always wanted to drive an Arctic lorry as iv already got a normal car/van licence
anthony macken they will do on operations, every patrol member is trained to team medic standard as well. There is also opportunities to train with the medics attached to the Regiment to advance skills
Pockets of an issued ubac tailored onto a shirt. With Velcro then on the outside. Aftermarket gear can be quite expensive at times, so it’s nice to have some alternatives as back up.
Yes, Infantry have MFC. So call in mortor fire. Then across in the artillery you have more specialised roles for calling in air and artillery missions.
baz enit yeah what Regiment are you going for mate? I’d give it another week, they definitely haven’t forgotten about you. If you’ve had no updates by then or if you have questions, give them a call. I think all courses have already started now for 2019 so you would be looking at Jan/Feb 2020. That’s just my opinion, your best giving them a call for actual dates etc. Did you get any paperwork from your assessments?
Your videos are seriously making me want to join the Royal Irish. Just your openness and showing all the kl stuff. Being helpful and informative.

Have u joined the RIR yet ?
Good man. You wont regret it.
Brandon Harris I’m in the same boat man, the RIR is where the action is at, a lot more experience aswell.
This video is brilliant. I’m joining the army hopefully Jan/feb and this has made me so excited to begin. Thank you!!!

Ranger Media thank you so much it’s a honour and I am going for infantry Yorkshire regiment hopefully that’s my goal 😁cheers buddy and well done for all you have done for Britain 🇬🇧
Thanks for your videos. They're really helpful. Just had a question though. Do you know if reserve soldiers are able to join Recce Platoons?
how do officers fit into recce platoons? I've heard is a good way of staying 'front line' when promoted past the rank of Lt.

How would you go on the sharpshooters course? Is there any prerequisites

Ryan Davies yeah you can wear glasses, you’ll have to wear issued ones throughout basic training.
Okay thank you. Is there a limit to how short sighted you can be or is it like as long as you're not close to being blind, you should be okay?
Ryan Davies not sure on exact requirements mate, I’ve yet to hear about anyone having major dramas with wearing glasses for medical etc so you should Be fine
Okay. Thank you for your fast replies and the helpful video.

My brother has been in army for afew months now in infantry to become a snipper he loves it and just passed his driving test one said you can get all your licences is that true this is highly persuading me to join and I'd love to be a sniper and iv always wanted to drive an Arctic lorry as iv already got a normal car/van licence
Did the other episodes come out? I'm a few months late but this is great content!
Cheers mate
If you failed the sniper course, do you get another attempt at a later point or not??
Question: Recce Platoon he's talking about and the Tier-1 Special Reconaisance Regiment is different?
@Joocey Pale Boi 👍
Do the recon. have a combat medic as of the team?
anthony macken they will do on operations, every patrol member is trained to team medic standard as well. There is also opportunities to train with the medics attached to the Regiment to advance skills
Thank you for this mate
Jordy no problems at all
What is the name for the snipers on the application
Applying to become a sniper is something that you will do when you finish basic training and spend some time in your chosen Regiment.
I am a crayon muncher, but I’m ready for whatever gets put my way
what is the best armoured infantry regiment in your opinion?
Nathan Brady depends there’s a few mate, I haven’t really worked close with specific ones to give a good opinion on armoured Infantry
How to join the SAS
How have you tailored that shirt ? looks really ally !
Pockets of an issued ubac tailored onto a shirt. With Velcro then on the outside. Aftermarket gear can be quite expensive at times, so it’s nice to have some alternatives as back up.
What shirt are you wearing? Very alli
Fin Crouch just an issued one that’s been tailored mate
Is there a job role where you call in air support and artillery
Yes, Infantry have MFC. So call in mortor fire. Then across in the artillery you have more specialised roles for calling in air and artillery missions.
