  • Why the Infantry can be a good place to be. Joing the British Army is the first step, chosing what trade you want to take on is the next.
    Whatever career you decide to go for in the Military its going to be rewarding. This episode im just focusing on my thoughts on serving in the Infantry. Sometimes some recuriters with no military background can give advice not based on experience serving with the Infantry, some people may then come away with the wrong information. Leading them to join something they are not fully committed to.
    Also towards the end of the main bulk of this episode there is a short 3 mins of what us Irish Rangers got up to in a 12 month period last year (2019).

I have done my due diligence in terms of smashing the phys, doing some prior learning and preparation, although I am fully aware the shock of capture will be real. I was very happy to hear people have completed full degrees while serving, since this is also what my plan is (already got the majority of modules done, so if everything is fine I'll transfer credits with the Open Uni). I would have gone to Sandhurst but I'm above the cut off age. If it all works, I'll definitely try Late Entry officer down the line. But not gonna lie I am shitting myself. Big life change. I'm working on becoming a Sapper, because I like the idea of having a trade when I come out.
    If I'm incorrect about this, please correct me, because I love the idea of being in amongst it with the infantry aswell.

    • @Rangermedia

      With regards to trades like joinery, bricklaying etc they would all be down the engineer route. You can get stuff from the Infantry but the trades you are on about arnt available. Infantry give yous the time and confidence to look at other opportunities to better yourself but these would be 70% of the time in your own time. Where as joinery for example would be done as your actually job if you where in the engineers. In short, the normally trades you would think of are not in the Infantry however there’s still opportunities for quals to set you up outside the Army, will just need more work.

    • @big_slurp4603
      @big_slurp4603 6 месяцев назад

      I was a gunner with the RA in the reserves before going regs. A lot of the focus on Arty now is mobility eg. getting the gun out where it needs to be, lobbing shells and f*cking off before the enemy lob shells or drones back at you - which is the strategy used in Ukraine by their arty currently. As a gunner you're basically just working within your team to do what you need to do, in Phase 2 you will learn all the roles and then once your fully trained you will have your position in the team - could be loading the shells, plunging them - whatever, either way you're going to be shifting it about like mad with your team.
      If you really are scared of potential combat (and tbf if a gun bunny is in the thick of frontline combat, something has gone terribly wrong - but I imagine it *could* happen!) you could look at being in the command post (CP), communicating with OPs within the Royal Artillery who are basically spotters that go out with the infantry and spot targets for you which you then in turn work out all the maths, position and all that jazz and feed the info to the gunners on the guns who will fire on the targets.
      Also, don't let being a woman deter you. In my reserve battery, there were five foot nothing women from various age ranges who were better than some of the lads.
      Take what I say with a grain of salt, I was only a part timer after all and Royal Artillery isn't my cap badge, but I absorbed everything I knew from bloody good leadership who themselves were ex-regulars.

    Need some help here mate as I haven’t properly asked anyone with previous military history, I want to join the REME to be a vehicle mechanic but I have a high interest in the infantry as well, but I haven’t been able to find anything on vehicle mechanics being deployed and serving in combat, since being younger I have always wanted to join the army and work in a combat role, really unsure of what to do at the moment don’t know whether to join the infantry or the REME, what are your thoughts?

    • @Rangermedia
      @Rangermedia  4 года назад +1

      If you want to be in a combat role your not going to get that full experience anywhere else than the Infantry. If your wanting to be a reme veh mech, you will still deploy as your a soldier. Maintaining our vehicles etc when in the bases. There’s also the possibility to deploy out on the ground to recover vehicles that have broken down or have been struck my enemy fire. So putting you into that situation. Back to my 1st point the Infantry is the only place to train tactics and advance towards the enemy etc.

    • @Rangermedia
      @Rangermedia  4 года назад +2

      It’s all about passing the tests mate, I wouldn’t concentrate on you weight moving up and down being a goal. Getting into training through it and receiving your green beret would be the goal. So I’d up your cardio intensity to drop your time down. Your weight regards to muscle mass etc is something you could concentrate on again once you’ve got into your unit.

      As a Marine, assuming you're talking about Royal Marines, a twelve and a half minute mile and a half is nowhere near fast enough, you want to shave at a minimum two minutes off that time for the second mile and a half, three minutes off is even better

    I’m 16 (17 in June) and want to join the Army but I’m not in good shape and don’t know how to go about prep, have you any advice in how to prep? Also, do you get to choose what regiment you join or do you just get sorted to wherever you’re needed? My local Regiment is the Mercian Regiment.

    • @Rangermedia
      @Rangermedia  4 года назад +4

      Some_Random_Asshole 783567 No mate you chose your Regiment and where you want to go. That’s the great thing about British Infantry, each Regiment has its own history and identity which continues on through time. Regards to training, flexibility and cardio is key for selection and basic. If your just a beginner stay away from weights in the gym but master your own body weight. Press-ups, core, pull-ups etc. The main thing is to get your training gear on and get out training. If you haven’t trained before or not in a long time, ease yourself into it.

    • @Some_Random_Asshole
      @Some_Random_Asshole 4 года назад

      Ranger Media ok thanks, I heard cardio was Important. I think that by choice I’d join the Mercian Regiment anyways becuse they’re Armoured Infantry and who doesn’t love the warrior? Love your videos by the way bud, best view from inside the British army I’ve seen so far.

      @@Some_Random_Asshole Cardio and endurance. If you're in a bad shape just lower the bar a bit - get your regimental fitness requirements and bring them down so you can do them comfortably without completely wrecking you. For example, instead of 50 press-ups, do 25 and gradually increase it. Same for the run distance and time - I smoke so I actually prefer to run a longer distance (about 3-4km) with intervals between steady jog, run and sprint - when you're used to running 3 or 4km, 2km is absolutely nothing and you'll be able to sprint most of it

    • @Some_Random_Asshole
      @Some_Random_Asshole 3 года назад +1

      @@JustAnOrdinarySimmer thanks mate. Turns out I can’t join right now anyways because I’m still on the asthma register list from when i was younger. I got off it but had a rather bad chest infection about 2 years ago which put me back on it anf it’s going to be about another 5 years without being prescribed meds for it before I’m off the list, I’ll also have to get a signed waiver from my doctor saying I’m well enough and even then the chances are still slim since we all know how picky the army is with application. Something I’m still definitely going to persue though and it just means i have about 5 years to get in shape and get used to the workouts.

    • @Rangermedia

      In work there is a natural path with different routes available geared around the infantry if that’s the branch you choose. Like, heavy weapons, reconnaissance etc.
      Quals outside of these things can be taken on but it would be in your own time. In the Infantry there are lots of periods of time where you could use to study electronically etc for qualifications outside of the Infantry etc
