When I joined The Lifeguards in 71, I was sent to the Guard's depot Pirbright, The Lifeguards and Blues and Royals were put together for training, we trained alongside the foot Guards, at the end of training we passed out as trained soldiers. We then went either for mounted training or to Cattrick for armoured training, The Lifeguards had just started on Chieftain so The Lifeguard member's did tank training, after that training we all went to Windsor, the Lifeguard section were then flown to Detmold to join the Regiment.

Great Video Craig. Have found all of your videos helpful, that I’ve seen so far. (30 & only just applied, interview today), I’ve selected HCav as my first choice. Would you get the option to remain at Knightsbridge, and become a riding instructor or a farrier if you wanted to?
Did you get an answer regarding that matt? I'm 28 been thinking about applying for ages now but I can't decide between the Royal navy and Army.🤷♂️ I also like the idea of becoming a ridding instructor at knightsbridge.
@@lee9650 Hi Lee, yes I did mate. But I’ll be getting clarification of this when I get my event at Knightsbridge. Glad to see someone of a similar age looking into joining too. Funny you say that, my ex navy mate was trying to get me down the navy route too! Got chatting to a riding master up at Horseguards of all places, (got the same answer for the Kings troop for a virtual event I had for that as part of my application) All members of the Hcav have to do 2 years at Knightsbridge after phase 2 anyway. During year 1 at Knightsbridge, you get to choose a career path, either carry on to Bulford on tanks, or select a career within the HCMR, at Knightsbridge, (riding instructor, farrier, Saddler, Tailer etc) One would imagine the army could post you where you’re need though. Good luck mate, and hope you apply! It’s the best thing I’m doing. Taking me a while because my fitness is shocking, but best of luck mate and hopefully I’ll meet you at Knightsbridge.

You put in your preferences in order, for example: 1 - Tank Crewman 2 - Armoured Cav 3 - Light Cav Then the army will take this into consideration as well as the job roles they need to fill and assign you to one of the roles. Whether you get your first pick depends on spaces available
Say I choose the 2nd option due to unavailable space, do I get a chance to transfer to my previous first option if there happens to be open space after?
Would you recommend going to AFC Harrogate after year 11? I'm only asking because I'm coming up to the end of high school and looking for colleges to attend and since I aim to join the RAC I want to know as much as possible before I apply for basic.
Applied for HCav, got deferred at AC due to needing a sickle cell test. Got my results back and got declared P8 due to a self-diagnosis on my medical records. Sent my appeal (my GP has stated in plain English that I don't have the condition listed) off 2 weeks ago and still haven't heard anything. Army recruitment say it's still awaiting review at Glencorse so I'm currently sat in limbo with no idea what's happening.
If u only sent it off 2 weeks ago then u probs won’t hear anything for another 3-4 weeks because I originally got rejected due to issues in the past and it took about 6 weeks before I was cleared

How likely are you to get your preferred trade and can you change your corps entirely if you don't get into the role you want? For example If I don't get in as a tank crewman I'd rather change my role entirely (such as move to ramc) than go into any of the other RAC trades

can you talk about bullying in the RAC/Household Cav because I have watched quite a few videos of veterans talking, and there did seem to be a general background of trouble makers but what I heard when a guy from the light infantry was talking shocked me... just wondering fighting amongst soldiers varies from unit to unit?
Quick question. You mentioned about how each regiment recruits from they're local area. Does that mean if I lived in a certain area I would be more likely to join the corresponding regiment? I live in the south west and would like to join RTR
Could you maybe get an officer in to talk about his career progression
