This is by far the best, straightforward, explanation of time vs frequency domain (samples vs bins) and real / imaginary numbers to amplitude and phase values, out of every tutorial, book, video and lecture about fft I have seen. Well done sir. :-)

This is excellent. It seems Max is really turning a corner regarding accessible programming for novices. And the latest Max for Live makes it incredibly compelling for real world artistic expression.

This is the best fft and pfft tutorial I've seen! Thank you!

Perceptive people probably wonder, how you can have audio bands above 22050 Hz within 44100 Hz sample rate signal. Answer is that you can't. With FFT size of 512 sample there will really be 512 bins and those are really SampleRate/512 Hz apart, but only 256 of them are useful "bands" in practice (at least when the input signal is audio (real numbers). Because then half of the bins are just redundant - containing the same values as lower 256 bins just in inverted order and with the imaginary part inverted.)

I highly recommend people use the useful "Key Moments" chapter titles to find the spot in the video that will help them most.

Hi I have Max 7 and in the Beap stuff there is a drum sequencer and piano roll sequencer. I was wondering would it be hard to add a preset functionality so I can recall when I set up a sequence?

Save it as a patch then open it and copy paste when you want to use it?

@@callum6224 Thanks i am still using max 7. I decided not to boter using Max for sequencing I can just midi in from Cubase. I do use max for creating some monster effects though. I am not so good with Max that I can create stuff from scratch.

@@cfcreative1 yeah, I only use max for live which you can use in conjunction with ableton’s midi sequencing or to use to apply audio effects to stuff, or to sequence instruments and plugins and whatnot very quickly and easily. Otherwise I also wouldn’t bother, and yeah I’ve been a max/msp noob for like 4 years, but I find taking the reference and help patches to use as a basis is very helpful and I just sort of mash things together and hope it works.
