    The crab is indeed a mythology reference. Something about some spirits turning into crabs to cross the river of death to the other side.

      Yeah they mentioned it in the episode, but I'm not sure if it's a reference to something in real life/something in history. I know Dandadan has roots in some Buddhist lore so I'm sure there's a lot that goes over my head

    One aspect which hit me hard was the "overture"/"can can" remix playing during the last escape scene. I had to pause and look it up because I was sure I heard the base music pieces before (common movie horse racing music, so it is fitting).
    That cemented the show as not just good but outstanding.
    While I am here: Does the kick Momo does in the intro remind someone else of the intro to cowboy bebop (same kick, similar animation)?

      Honestly the cowboy Bebop reference is a really good point. In the manga there are lots of little references to other anime/manga so it totally wouldn't surprise me if it's on purpose!
