ALMORA - History of the capital of Kumaon

- Almora is a town situated in Kumaon region of Uttarakhand, India, famous for its culture, history and cuisines. The 450-year-old city has seen a lot of stuff over the years from the rule of Chand kings, invasions by Rohillas and Gorkhas to the British Raj.
Some of these events are documented here, and it is noted here that most of the History section is adapted from the book "Kumaon Ka Itihaas" by Badri Dutt Pandey.
There are some glitches in the video which I could not shake off, so, that's that.
Enjoy!
(Edit: The map of Garhwal (Tehri Riyasat) shown at 10:34 is a little off. The border between British Garhwal and Tehri was Alaknanda River up till Rudraprayag, then Mandakini River and some ridgelines to the east of river and to the north, both were divided by high ridgelines of Kedarnath, Chaukhamba and Satpanth, basically the wall that separated glaciers of Alaknanda and Bhagirathi.)

Thankyou!
I am amazed to see someone so young create such an impressive and perfectly structured video on such a rare topic, thereby making it so interesting. No wonder there are so many likes and views. This is classic work. Looking forward to more such.
So true bless you Harshit
Great content! Borders does not define the cultural harmony that we have common among Kumoan, garhwal and far west part of Nepal. Jay Nepal 🇳🇵
🕉️🕉️
Kumaon garhwal were always independent kingdoms just part of Gurkha empire for just 36 years only
@@akshitdadhwal not 36 years bheji, Garhwal was under Gorkha rule for 13-14 years (from 1800 to 1813/1814). And Gorkha successfully invaded Garhwal in their third attempt, before this they got defeated two times by Garhwalis. And that's why there's mild influence of Nepali culture in Garhwal. But yes I also believe that gorkha, Kumaonis and Garhwalis are Cousins. We had same himalyan ancestors, our cultures are similar and I feel proud to call my self Himalyan. Whatever happened then was between maharajas, today we all himalyans need to preserve our unique culture and heritage and our sacred land.
Love to Nepal🇳🇵🇳🇵🇳🇵
@@pradeep_negi yes even when a himachali or dogra speaks Hindi his/her accent is similar to that of Punjabi but when kumaoni , garhwali speaks Hindi his/her accent is similar to Nepali lepcha , tamang or thapa
Great knowledge bro❤️.....mujhe apne Almora ki history sunke acha lga ....

@@atul4you804 Lakshmi Chand attacked Garhwal several times, on 7th try he had to flee the battlefield hidden away in some sort of container. So the people started calling him that, which means hidden cat. After some time, he finally did manage to win once, which became the origin of the festival of Khatadua.
