ALMORA - History of the capital of Kumaon

  • Almora is a town situated in Kumaon region of Uttarakhand, India, famous for its culture, history and cuisines. The 450-year-old city has seen a lot of stuff over the years from the rule of Chand kings, invasions by Rohillas and Gorkhas to the British Raj.
Some of these events are documented here, and it is noted here that most of the History section is adapted from the book "Kumaon Ka Itihaas" by Badri Dutt Pandey.
There are some glitches in the video which I could not shake off, so, that's that.
    Enjoy!
(Edit: The map of Garhwal (Tehri Riyasat) shown at 10:34 is a little off. The border between British Garhwal and Tehri was Alaknanda River up till Rudraprayag, then Mandakini River and some ridgelines to the east of river and to the north, both were divided by high ridgelines of Kedarnath, Chaukhamba and Satpanth, basically the wall that separated glaciers of Alaknanda and Bhagirathi.)

@@akshitdadhwal not 36 years bheji, Garhwal was under Gorkha rule for 13-14 years (from 1800 to 1813/1814). And Gorkha successfully invaded Garhwal in their third attempt, before this they got defeated two times by Garhwalis. And that's why there's mild influence of Nepali culture in Garhwal. But yes I also believe that gorkha, Kumaonis and Garhwalis are Cousins. We had same himalyan ancestors, our cultures are similar and I feel proud to call my self Himalyan. Whatever happened then was between maharajas, today we all himalyans need to preserve our unique culture and heritage and our sacred land.

These videos are quality... Superb content bro. It seems like watching old documentaries (specially on DD and Gyan Darshan) which use to well researched, extensive and down right simple and straightforward unlike today's contents. Your narration and expressions are very good indeed.. keep up the good work. Cheers 🍻
