Finally, Dan talked about Cubans' hate for other Latino immigrants. Nothing new and known among the Latino community. There is a reason, when Cubans talk about their struggles. Other latinos roll their eyes... Basically, they got a free pass due to the USA foreign policy when it came to immigration
Cubans don't "hate" other Spanish-speaking immigrants...they just don't buy into the Anglo invention of the term "Hispanic" or feel any sort of group identity with people outside of the Caribbean. And why should they? Because the US government decided to create an ethnic category called "Hispanic" in the 1970s?
As a Cuban I can tell you it's not hate, it's that many Cubans think they are superior somehow to other Latinos. They think their music is better, that somehow they are more hardworking than other Latinos. It's ignorant and stupid, but that's really what it is. It's not hate, it's arrogance.
NOBODY gets a free pass in America. Wanna know how Cubans got these “privileges”?! -). They’re solidarious, despite you seeing them quarrelling with each other in Hialeah or Versailles, -). Those who came first, in 1959, places themselves in key positions (law, finance, medicine, etc) to have a voice and lobby properly. Contrary to many other immigrant groups, a Cuban doctor will become a better doctor in the US, no matter how long it takes. Now, that Miami Cubans are perceived as racist and classists?! Well… 💅🏾💅🏾
In my life experience, as a Latino, the black Cubans are more humble and think of themselves on the same level as other Latinos. The white/light skinned Cubans almost always think of themselves better than, smarter than and on a higher level socially than the other Latinos!
people are socialized and trained in the color hierarchy in this world to believe that lighter skin is better.... as same thing with, (fair skin straight hair american black folk) even though it's kind of taboo to discuss in the black community...
@@Cottrell_Thomas You have a great point ☝️ I'm married to an East African & perhaps there as well those with lighter skin are treated differently than the darker complexion ones. This is true In my Mexican community as well.
This behavior seems universal. As someone born in India, I always felt the same about dark skinned Indians and light skinned Indians. Bollywood is even guilty of glorifying light skinned Indian actors.
Cubans have always thumbed their nose at other Latino communities. Cubans have benefitted by refugee legislation dating back to LBJ. It is sad that people don't study history.
Studying history!!! Yes our US history especially OF BROWN PEOPLE HERE IN AMERICA before the newly arrived come and immediately think becoming a GOPer makes them white. It just is insulting and ignorant and that is why the resto of us born in the US Latins have a hard time respecting Cubans with their dumb attitude.

That means racism is part of society in the US and is institutionalized in the States. Nope I'm clueless to struggles.

wet foot, dry foot. Cubans have always benefitted from fast tracked citizenship while supporting Republican anti-immigrant paranoia. Marco Rubio is a perfect example of this. He even admitted his immigration policy proposal would have kept his own parents out of this country. Whatever. California latinos and South Florida latinos are completely different. My family never whined and cried incessantly about the leaders of Mexico like Cubans used Castro as some crutch.
@@V.E.R.O. I can care less what they were. They're so petty they'd rather support the party that drives anti-immigrant hysteria and policies so as long as that party adopts the harshest and antagonistic foreign policy towards Cuba. They help move the country right and push more anti-immigrant attitudes while they themselves enjoyed fast tracked citizenship and never had to live under regular INS raids, patrols, checkpoints and deportations like my parents and family did. And this was all happening in Northern California all the way to the highways near the CA-OR border because INS knew they were all traveling seasonal migrant workers. We didn't have the luxury of a Miami political bubble while being the favorite immigrant group of the most rightwing party in the country.
I've always found it amazing that the fervor of anti-Castro Cubans almost led to nuclear war. They sparked the attempted Bay of Pigs coup in the early 1960s. That spooked Castro enough to get the Soviet Union to supply him with nuclear weapons, which brought on the Cuban Missile Crisis. In short, a bunch of pissed off Cuban landowners could have caused the end of civilization as we know it.
The irony is that every law that has ever been put in place to allow Cubans to come to, remain in and seek legal status in the US, has been introduced and passed by democrats. Cubans confuse me as well, Dan.

I’m not Latino but I think what they see is the same opportunity that Italians and Irish saw and that’s the promise of “whiteness” It dangles there for them and they believe it will be extended to them if they do what the white people want. Unfortunately MY PEOPLE, Mexican American(Tejanos), from Texas are similarly the same way as the Miami Cubans. In both cases I would say it’s not all those folks but definitely a segment of both communities.
The funny part about it is, that if one day they decided to deport all latinos regardless of their immigration or legal status, their asses are getting deported too.🤣
He's only half white. What perplexed me is the sh0oter who went after random people at a mall who was Hispanic, had n*zi tattoos and was posting on a Russian website
As a Black Cuban I find it hilarious that whyt Cubans marginalize us in America. The island is 70% Afro descendant, our culture is centrally African with orisha Santeria from the Yoruba people from Nigeria and our music is African and our food is very African. Most Cuban Americans know nothing about the island, with a Disneyland version of identity 🏝️🌍🇨🇺

Great that you guys have Ramos on as a guest. I would caution that this trend is not unique to Hispanics, or Latinos, or Cubans. While not as prominent, this trend of nativism through assimilation is present and growing in almost every minority community within North America. A lot of it has roots in that “not certain where you fit in” anxiety that Paola describes.

@wilber2k06 why did you copy and paste this in every comment section lmao? Also Obama's personal opinion is NOT Indicative of the broader conversion going on
@@BobPantsSpongeSquare97 So it gets tattooed in your brain. Now you'll never forget those press conferences. Also, that's where you're wrong; his personal opinion mattered because he was running for president at the time and Americans needed to know who they were voting for. And it clearly showed how short the United States is coming along in viewing itself as a mixed-race nation. Her views are just a sign of that shortsightedness. That's the problem with some people out there, you want to pick and choose what to remember. Listen, people need to learn history as it happened, not as they wish it had happened.
Ramos is just touching the tip of the iceberg. I'm a 53 year old Cuban-American, born and bred in Miami, and very much a product (and dissident) of the community that shaped me. My father's side were Batistianos and my mother's were Fidelistas who, like many, would soon find themselves disillusioned with the direction and excesses of the revolution. As per being far-right, the old elites that were the first to flee and establish themselves as the new local elites were also rightists and even moreso, and more accurately, anti-communist reactionaries, longing for the status quo ante, and fueled by the rhetoric of the cold war that conflated any talk of worker's rights, civil rights, and anti-imperialism - any attempt to curb the power of the most privileged, with the ideology of their mortal enemies (actually the enemies of their masters). They are the descendants of the old anexionistas and their pro-US attitudes were multi-generational as well as reinforced by US media/soft power. They shaped and cemented the worldview of Miami to match their own. They control the one-sided local spanish language media and therefore the narrative - from Armando Perez Roura and Radio Mambi to Pablo Raúl Alarcón and SBS to Alex Otaola and his RUclips channel. The result is a Miami that has always been a haven for right-wing dictators, thugs, torturers, and criminals (and their useful idiots). Of course Miami would provide fertile soil for the politics of extremism, or more accurately, reaction. What Cubans are to US immigration in the late 20th and early 21st century is basically the same as what Italian immigration was to the late 19th and early 20th century. Very, very similar communities with similar politics. Both made up of immigrant who over time were willing to ignore just how despised they were in the past and even more willing to trade in their relative whiteness for entry into the expanding tent of American whiteness (and all it ideologically demands) in exchange for all the perceived privilege and power inside. True, there's the political component of immigrating because of communism that makes Cubans different, but that reasoning doesn't hold up much past the 90s where the dominant motive becomes poverty (interestingly enough much of it actually made worse by US sanctions and trade restrictions - which most refuse to acknowledge). And let's not forget the sense of entitlement and privilege that is further encouraged by the Cuban Adjustment Act (itself one may argue another example of white privilege Cuban immigrants enjoy and no one else does - even those fleeing other communist countries) which encourages Cuban emigration and implicitly props up one group of immigrants over others. The racism, machismo, anti-intellectual open hostility to "left" politics (it doesn't take much to be labelled communist here, which only shows how low-info and emotional many are with their definitions. I won't even get into how often they contradict themselves when comparing party with policy [an ongoing FIU study consistently does that] ) is already there. All a demagogue like Trump does is provide them a vehicle to unapologetically express their lesser selves. Again, if you study the Italian immigrant story of the last century, you'll get a picture of the future of the Cuban immigrant story.
You bet. So many that come from Latin America from "communist" controlled countries think that attaching to the White Party aka the GOP that makes them more American. As a born here in SF, California hispanic they look fkng dumb to me cuz they never bother to study OUR HISTORY HERE IN THE US. Thank you for addressing colorism and race. People do not understand that Latin America is made up of Indigenous, African and European ancestry. More over the have the class and race dynamic as well, centering on whiteness.
as she said, the issue is latter generation Latinos are so assimilated they want or think already like the majority group, which are the whites, so they don't have to be ethnically white, they're mentality is assimilated with the white majority. and of the white majority is glad to have the tokenism support from them but will distance themselves from them as members of their group politically/ethnically when that support is no longer valuable
Yes true for Asians indeed. I'm Filipino and a lot of the older generation is conservative and like to punch down on the Filipinos back in the Philippines living in poverty. It's a class thing, as the upper classes were the ones who could afford to migrate across the Pacific. Even the younger generation punches down and mocks recent immigrants as "FOB" (fresh off the boat)
@kupalisky3553 there is a reason why they are conservatives. Leftist ideology is why they fleed their country in the first place. How ignorant can you be to vote for the same thing you ran from?
Yes, they are!! I pray everyday that everyone will vote for Kamala no matter what they think about her policies. She is much much better than Trump. The Maga Republicans need to be gone and the real Republicans can come back. I would rather have them to fight with than the Maga. They are crazy and a cult!!
This girl hits the nail on the head! I am also an Afrocuban but my family was proud of our cultural mix and made me equally proud of my Cuban heritage and my African ancestors . I of course born in Miami am very American and was only ever accepted by black/Caribbean communities here. White Cubans have always erased us and I can see in Enrique how he didn’t even know how to racially identify because racism is really rampant not only in Cuba but in all Latin American countries. I can go on and on about this topic. Cubans have always been privileged with how they have been allowed to immigrate into this However, I still will not understand how someone that is well researched about Donald Trump can even look his way. You truly have to be not only born in America but watched tv in the 80’s to understand his back story and how he is a threat to America. @@V.E.R.O. Just reposting here in case they censored me on the other RUclips channel. I agree with you. My opinion is that I think the source of the issue is there's a push/propaganda to historically distort/defame/stereotype Hispanics. Some people in the United States can't stand or believe that they are the last country in the Americas to struggle with race relations. Also, they don't want to accept the fact that the largest genocide of indigenous people happened under the United States of America (not under the British / French / Spanish empires). Like Paola mentioned near the end, colonialism put this all into action. When Spain controlled the islands, Central and South America, they created a caste system based on color. The lighter skin you were the more rights you had. That colonial mentality is still present among Miami Cuban and the Tejanos in Texas. I grew up in NJ. I’m confounded by how anyone would support Trump, but it is especially confusing to me why they as immigrants would support him. No matter what Trump does or says they defend him, and of course they believe that the DOJ is unfairly attacking him. Spanish media has a lot to do with the abundance of right-wing Latinos, at least here in Miami. The mainstream media here in Spanish is very right-wing and there is no MSNBC equivalent to balance it out. Compound that with every horrible thing that the likes of Trump say gets filtered, so the Latino audience rarely gets to hear things from the horses mouth and many anti-Latino things said are simply never reported. Things that are detrimental to our community are covered up if it comes from a right-wing politician.
This happened to the Irish too. The Irish were rejected at first in the late 1800s, but then saw themselves as 'white' and certainly not like their other immigrant and black neighours. Thank you Ms. Ramos, we need to talk about (and learn) what it means to be a Latino-descent American, part of a large and diverse community.

I've been living in Miami for 25 years, and it's so refreshing to hear this generation of Latinos reflect and focus on the reasons behind the anti-immigrant movement within the Latino community. Paola, congratulations, keep speaking up and raising awareness.
I can't help but think of what Paola said about Enique Tarrio. She described him as an Afro-Latino that never really felt like he fit in with other Latinos in his community growing up. This sense of not fitting in left a void in him that drove him to fringe groups that would accept him and helped weaponize his anger and resentment. I am in no way making excuses for the leader of the Proud Boys, nor do I agree with him in any way. But I do understand what it feels like to be a Mexican-American who because of some small thing was made to feel disconnected to my people in some way. We all know Latino's that do not always feel connected to their culture or heritage for some reason. Maybe its not speaking Spanish, or growing up in an all white community, or for me looking more Filipino than Mexican. Whatever it may be, can make many of us feel disconnected. I am not going to get into politics, what I am getting at is that maybe instead of getting into arguments with Enique Tarrio, or someone like him, we need to invite them over for a meal. Show them what it feels like to reconnect with their gente again. I know this seems naive and it probably won't solve anything, but I think it is a start. All Latino's need to start thinking of ourselves as one gente. I mean it as a message of empathy and a way to think of how when we see someone we disagree with, maybe we can try to think about what their life has been like and maybe extending some kindness and an olive branch could make a difference and help them change their ways over time. Just something to think about.
@cablenewsfanatic5634 the point is that latinos aren't the only non-white community that has a small portion of folks that have dedicated themselves to white supremacy.
I also think the power of misinformation with WhatsApp, and through all the apps, has such a potent effect. Many get their “news” through this form of low quality meme culture.
Cubans have always been hard right. The fact people are still surprised by this is crazy. Latinos from Miami in general have always been far right. Even more so now with the arrival of Venezuelans. Latinos always been right wing and racist

But their kids get educated in Dem controlled schools and come out very anti American and Anti White. Take a look at ancestry DNA videos on RUclips. All US born and educated Hispanics lament their results telling them that they are white while their Latin American born parents celebrate the white ancestry DNA results. This is a result of US's CRT school curriculum
Just a reminder that being a democrat or conservative doesn’t make you far left or right or a bad person. While it may be disappointing to see your candidate lose it won’t be the end of the world! Politicians use fear to sway votes their way and it’s been that way forever. And now there’s more money being poured in to it than ever. More people being paid to influence candidates than ever. There’s more good than bad people in this country and when push comes to shove most people will do the right thing. Regardless of what you see on social media, which isn’t a real place and a minority of our population. If you find yourself getting frustrated or worked up just check out for a couple hours, a couple days or a couple weeks and don’t forget to take care of yourself with some light exercise and good food. We’ll be okay people. If someone attacks you for your beliefs just remove yourself from it and remind yourself that the individual is probably overwhelmed by political information and doesn’t have the tools to handle it effectively. Be kind!
It wouldn’t surprise me if Lebatard is being paid to influence Biden. Tana Mongeau was offered money to influence him and Bryce Hall was paid to influence Trump. If tik tokers are getting paid then sports media personalities definitely are
Its kind of wild how little Americans know about history, geography etc Its pretty simple theres a couple of reasons: 1) Latinos are not a race, we are not a monolith. We come in all shades. There are the darkest of dark and the whitest of white and some REALLY believe that shit. This leads to.. 2) Colourism. Central and South America is rife with it. Ask Afro Dominicans in NY if they’re black and they say no we’re Latino. You can be both. They have a saying, “Mejorar la raza” Racism/colourism in Latino America is rife. 3) Specifically Cubans, vote extreme right because of their or their families lived experience. Whether I agree with their political views and how they view historical facts is separate. 4) Lastly, theres the “kicking the ladder” or “pulling up the ladder” phenomenon that happens with immigrants which instead of helping those behind them they get here and feel like I don’t want what Ive received to be diluted so we’re good after me. We complicate things so much
My one thing with Afro Latinos saying they aren't "black" is, only in the U.S. do we say oh yea "I'm black, white, Asian, etc" The world doesn't do that.... They will mention their Nationality like Dominicans do. Go anywhere else like Asia, Africa, Europe. Asians won't go to another Asian countries and just say "I'm Asian" 😂 Like obviously we can tell someone is Asian but what country are they from? That goes for Europeans and Africans too.
I know right. American whites don't go out of their way to 'help' the very tiny number of white foreigners in the USA since 1960 so why should any other race do the same?
So much this- the status of Puerto Ricans , is different than Mexicans, which is different than Cubans, which is different than Guatemalans and Cubans. They view America with a unique lens. I completely understand the plight of Cubans. Their “status “ works in a bubble like Miami. Go to Arkansas Mississippi or anywhere in the Deep South with dark skin speaking Spanish, and they will get a reality check. They are not “European” to. Americans in the Deep South with blue eyes and blonde hair.
@karinaz8756 Have you even ever set foot in the South? It doesn't sound like it. If you had been to the South you'd know two things: 1. You're much more likely to be a victim of violent crime there at the hands of a black than at the hands of a white. 2. The level of racial tension in the south is nearly nil compared to NY Chicago LA etc. In fact, the extent to which there is racial tension in the South is more a result of the nationwide cultural influences of woke urban centers like Chicago and New York than anything home grown. Go see Am I Racist by Matt Walsh in theatres. You'll see that the people Matt interviews in the South, black and white, are very sane compared to the race hustling DEI experts he interviews in and around urban areas in the north.

As a person that moved to Florida a decade ago, but into politics for about 20 years I knew the communist angle on why Cubans in southern like the republicans. But I didn’t understand why they talked about colorism and having a harsh stance on immigration. But when she said that Cubans that look like her get the privilege treatment and then it clicked for me. So I understand that these Cubans don’t want to lose that status when it comes to immigration. I speak perfect English with no accent because I was born and raised here in the US, so were my Parents and 2 of my grandparents. My mother did not speak Spanish to us because she thought it would help us with our future in the US. I learned Spanish as an adult and I am proud of my heritage and I’m not trying to pass as white. I have felt so much sadness and disappointment to see how latinos in my own family are maga when our own parents, aunts, uncles, grandparents immigrated from Mexico to have a better life and yet they dont want other latinos to have the same opportunities that we now have. May God bless us all and may Harris win so maybe we can go back to being a united country 🙏

Around minute 14:00 the answer is easy, as a Venezuelan that's been here since the early 90's and has succeeded as a professional in South Florida I've heard from other Venezuelans, Colombians, Argentinians, etc.. Especially those like Paola said "fair skin and more European complexions" saying the same thing... "I am not like them..". I remember the first time I heard that in a corporate meeting down in Miramar, where I was so disgusted by the Cubans and Colombians at the table that I had to excuse myself from the meetings. A while ago I saw a meme that said "The worse enemy of an immigrant trying to succeed in life, it's another immigrant that has .." You want to talk about lack of resources, and having waves of immigrants to accommodate them.. I can have that debate, I would have a left debate in favor of it, but I would understand a right approach to it You want to talk about assimilation to the culture, well, I am even willing to go to that conversation, but when naturalized immigrants, or even first generation immigrants talk about the rest of the Latin community trying to better themselves as bad, then it just makes me sick to my stomach.. Bravo Paola, I just ordered your book online and recommended it to all my MAGA South Florida friend on their social media platforms.❤

Before Obama was president of the United States, he said in a television interview ("60 Minutes" with Steve Kroft) that he considers himself a "mutt" (another way of saying mulatto / moreno / mixed race). Obama added that society in the United States views him as black because he was born with more features from his father than his mother. That means racism is part of society in the US and is institutionalized in the States. Now, in another interview Obama said the reason he will continue to say that he is black (even though he said he considers himself a mutt (mulatto/moreno/mixed)) is until white people in the US start saying that they are mixed too. You can even find recordings of some of his presidential press conferences during his presidency where he jokingly says that he and his dog, Bo, are mutts.
@@wilber2k06 Unfortunately in the US, historically, any self identification associated with the racial spectrum has had political, ideological, and sociological connotations for all individuals. It has been part of the social contract for centuries. And that's even worse for politicians like Obama, whose racial mixture wasn't well understood for the common American who mostly knows about white, blacks, brown, and yellow people and not that much about their combination. Social institutions force us to do that. If, as a Cuban, every single official document that I have to fill out forces me to pick Hispanic/Latino as my ethnicity (a big mistake), and choose between white and black or Afro American, being myself 75% white and 9% black (according to my DNA test), which would be the most logic / accurate pick? Race is a big issue in this country that, same with racism, hasn't being properly approached. And Trump has known how to use it in his favor politically.
@@oscarenriqueavalosboitel5222 You have some good points, but I have a different take. Some minorities (I'm not generalizing) in the USA are doing the work of a small group of rac!st white gringos which is adopting the "one-drop rule" then exporting it to every country. That's why some suffer from Stockholm syndrome; meaning some have been oppressed for far too long that they are sympathizing with their rac!st captors. Now, what should be the options available on an application or census form for immigrants south of the USA border or off the coast of Florida? That's up for debate. But one thing I'll tell you, I'd rather select Hispanic than LatinX. My view is that it should be just two boxes on the census, citizen and non-citizen; that's it.

This is what find interesting…. All those Cubans, because YES, Cubans in Florida somehow feel more entitled to this country. All those Cubans whining about “people coming into this country with no documents” should also be complaining about THEIR FELLOW Cubans coming into this country; regardless of the wet dry program. Because they get permission only because of the LBJ program, not because they attained the privilege of being here. They get here by a “universal luck”, that’s it. They are NOT residents, they are NOT citizens. So, if Cubans protest about illegals immigrants. Also complain about new comers from Cuba, whom by the way are getting a lot of accommodation also from our government in Mexico. Stop being so righteousness, and just be grateful that you are fortunate to be here.
Got it. You don't like Cubans. Just like the other guy on here painting all Cubans with the same brush. Just shows your personal grievances more than anything else.
@@lamneth1 You got it wrong then, because I said Cubans from Florida. We have many Cubans living in Mexico from different programs the government has created for their accommodations. Remember, there is a Latino elite in the US and they have special access to elite schools and raise their children within the circles of power. And this is how all elite families maintain their access to power for generations. This analyst is clearly intelligent. And she is clearly the beneficiary of elite privilege.
Another issue many Latino immigrants and within Latino culture they have a racist mindset and placing them in non Latino neighborhoods is a problem that could explode. Truth is many Latinos hold racist ideas and honestly they could stay where they come from with that mindset.
While I’m sure this book is solely about the rise of white nationalism in the Latino community in America, my hope is she’ll touch on the rise of nationalism in Mexico, Argentina, Brazil, and other countries.
In Union City, NJ, I witnessed the promised support of fellow local Cubans for the those newly arrived from Cuba evaporate when those that arrived were not as white as them. I remember many of them telling me I could not be Puerto Rican because I was lighter skinned than them y colorao. The white superiority of the European colonist became part of culture within and without the EEUU border.
I would add the move to evangelical christianity and suburbanization can situate Latinos in a werid cultural hybridity where they must perform two lives --- one that has the layers of cultural identity from their immigrant parents and the educational system/ways of operating in the US. What's perplexing is the immedaite shift away from more Catholic social teaching such as Liberation Theology --- Unfortuantely Older Latino parents still overvalue hard work ethic rather than paths towards Higher Ed. and Institutional Planning ---- in order for Latinos to shape and create their own identity they need to fight for their spaces and transform them according to their needs...NOT simply adopt the standarized ways of living and operating based on some abstact formulation of a "model citizen/family"
@@ReadingAde Right, I think it's easy to fall for the "prosperity gospel" messaging if your family background stems from your family's history with poverty. Material gain and status is very strong in those communities, but more idealistic utopian/liberation ideas from thinks like Liberation Theology do not get developed because 1. The Church doesn't teach it 2. its association with Leftist groups and 3. it's based on political action and direct change which might ward off Latinos' trying to protect their status.
Honestly, I have my doubts. I think Latinos in the US are still in the assimilation process, initial step in the long way for a complete integration. This debate is evidence of that. The Latin identity exist, it doesn't have to be created, and it isn't the problem. The real issue has two components, first, how to preserve it and then - how to convince every single American, including Latinos ourselves, that our identity and culture is a gain for this country. Unfortunately, with Trump and his tribe still around that process could take a little longer. My last point is an unpopular opinion about the Liberation Theology (LT). I knew about it in Cuba and thought it was useless until I got in the US. LT only has sense if you live in democracy. In authoritarian regimes it is considered as subversive and dangerous, even when they try to say something different in public.
@@cablenewsfanatic5634 No, not at all. Individuals within the Church have to seek out this sect of theology for themselves. Like I said, Latinos face a unique situation, having to play essentially two cultural roles in the US. Because there are several competing values that aren't easily resolved within the institutions of the US Latinos may feel alienated and opt for a more private individual way of being, one that removes them from the political stress or they may identify with a dominate group politically to feel like they do belong. There is no easy route...
I think it is not as anti immigrants but anti-illegal immigrants. Also with the Dems giving so many resources to illegal immigrants and refusal to help the original Americans pre 1964 has turned people away. Immigrants also need to study our history because some of us have been here for over 150 years. My grandparents were born in AZ in the late 1800’s but not recognized as US citizens. Natives did not get that until 1924.
That’s a cop out. Cubans were given a huge helping hand via legislation in their path to citizenship. Different set of rules for Guatemalans and Hondurans. Can’t demand people come her legally then make it physically impossible to do just that. Once upon of time all you needed was an ID and a clean criminal background to pass through Ellis Island.
Being young men is the key across the spectrum. Same thing is happening in the Black and White communities. Young men are feeling disenfranchised and like gang members they are joining political groups that better reflect their frustrations. The movement is growing and will play a bigger role in future local, state and national elections. Programs for girls and women are abundant. For young men, not so much.
What about little Marco that has changed so much. From being a decent conservative to become a MAGA poppet of Trump. I am a Cuban American, but not the one who support Trump that live in Miami. I admire Paola for her courage and intelligence to say what others try to cover up.
The desire to be white and to be accepted into the mainstream is the main goal and purpose. The proximity to whiteness is key and movement into that "class" as they see it will be better for their kids and family in the future.

The island is 70% Afro descendant, our culture is centrally African with orisha Santeria from the Yoruba people from Nigeria and our music is African and our food is very African. Most Cuban Americans know nothing about the island, with a Disneyland version of identity 🏝️🌍🇨🇺
I am not Cuban but I have heard this many times.
I grew up in Miami. It was hilarious to me when legal documents started asking for race and ethnicity instead of just ethnicity. I worked in intake at a hospital and the black cubans heads would start spinning when they had to choose between black hispanic and white hispanic 🤷🏿♀️. In my experience all of yall are a bunch of colonized head cases 🤷🏿♀️

Do whites owe as much loyalty to other whites as you seem to argue that non whites owe to other non whites? If not, why the double standard?

Why should any American prioritize the perceived interests of his 'ethnic group' over the interests of his host country?

Like Paola mentioned near the end, colonialism put this all into action. When Spain controlled the islands, Central and South America, they created a caste system based on color.

Yea the illegal ones. Not all Latinos are the same. Typical leftist thinking.
Cubans think they’re the “good ones “.
Its kind of wild how little Americans know about history, geography etc
Its pretty simple theres a couple of reasons:
1) Latinos are not a race, we are not a monolith.

Thank you for having this conversation. Just bought the book.
Hey, black folks have Jason Whitlock. Shit happens
😂😂😂
Dan is an embarrasment to Cubans. Democrats have communistic ideas. That’s a Nono for us. Don’t speak until you lived it like I did.
Every ethnic group has this phenomenon. It's almost as if to truly assimilate you have to become racist and xenophobic
Look at lebetard and Paola they pass as white even Jorge Ramos Latinos are different there are high class wealthy ones that don’t bother coming to the US and then there are those US elite that don’t even look Latino
well played.
A while ago I saw a meme that said "The worse enemy of an immigrant trying to succeed in life, it's another immigrant that has .."
You want to talk about lack of resources, and having waves of immigrants to accommodate them.. I can have that debate, I would have a left debate in favor of it, but I would understand a right approach to it
You want to talk about assimilation to the culture, well, I am even willing to go to that conversation, but when naturalized immigrants, or even first generation immigrants talk about the rest of the Latin community trying to better themselves as bad, then it just makes me sick to my stomach..
Bravo Paola, I just ordered your book online and recommended it to all my MAGA South Florida friend on their social media platforms.❤
So happy to find conversations like this. Keep it up
Will buy the book from Amazon after watching this interview!
This interview is very informative. Thank you for Paola and thank you for making this happen.
I am Cuban and I am mix race. Cubans are racist too. I have experienced racism in my own family. Not all Cubans but a lot of them want to be white so bad they turn ultra conservative and racist.
I AM,SO WHAT?
@@kronos24-gg2nu not all Cubans are. Racism is a cancer and it is killing humanity. It’s like parasites they hold on until the host dies and they die with it.
I can say, as a black man, I get more racially charged insults from Latinos than Dwights these days…
I appreciate this video 👍
Thank you.
She's great.
Her hour long interview on 'Think' with Chris Boyd was also excellent.
I, a white, liberal woman, have been very curious about this issue.
I'm not a Latino but this interview was very interesting. I see and hear it but wasn't sure if I didn't understand what was occuring. I definitely need to get her book. Would be an interesting documentary.
She's just another version of the "white-savior complex." All that fake news she's pushing out is because she's operating out of GUILT. Some of these people are working in these international news agencies, NGOs, and foreign government offices. Now, they are trying to whitewash that history.
Paola Ramos is GREAT! Thanks Dan!

@@lamneth1
You got it wrong then, because I said Cubans from Florida.
We have many Cubans living in Mexico from different programs the government has created for their accommodations.
There are videos of them living in Mexico and finally getting to see what a regular food market looks like, and it makes me emotional for them.
I’m not a hater, but I have critical thinking and, that’s how I notice things, and, by the comments you can see is many of us who have felt it.
Floridians Cubans, are just like Texans Mexicans.
@@MarCapa-ed5uv And you're still wrong because I am a Cuban in Florida who despises everything MAGA and Trump and there are many more that feel the same way.
@@lamneth1
Then, you’re not aware of your surroundings, most Cubans in Florida support trump, even more than Anglo Americans, which is absolutely crazy.
You are only one of a few who is against trump, check the numbers if you’re doubting my comments.
And, by the way, don’t twist my words, I have nothing against Cubans in general, but I firmly defend my stance about Cuban Americans in Florida.
Because is the very same thing that happened to Mexicans in Texas.
And I hope you see the pattern; both have it easier than the rest.
It’s crazy to think that a Mexican has to wait up to 20 years to get a chance for residency, and central and South Americans are close to that, when Cubans get a huge break as soon as they set foot on this country.
That’s why I said, if we are complaining about people coming to this country and “taking our jobs, and housing, and resources”…,,
Don’t these Cubans getting a free pass add up to that number?
I hope that she is always introduced as such. Her work is amazing, but we can't let that slide.

I’m an East African American immigrant…grew up in the south east US. This conversation was really good, short but very enlightening. I learned a little bit more today👏🏾👌🏾
So yall co-opting the term African American now? 😂 Cool…we prefer Black American anyway 🤷🏿♀️
My husband introduced me to the Dan LeBatard show after my dad died in 2017. I'm not into sports very much, but I AM into history, politics, and philosophy and the show immediately interested me. I'll be buying this book, and once again I hope you never stop making the show you make!
I'm into sports, but also into history and politics. Could you let me know if you're familiar with the Majority Report?
Remember, there is a Latino elite in the US and they have special access to elite schools and raise their children within the circles of power. And this is how all elite families maintain their access to power for generations. This analyst is clearly intelligent. And she is clearly the beneficiary of elite privilege.
White validation is a strong thing.
Another issue many Latino immigrants and within Latino culture they have a racist mindset and placing them in non Latino neighborhoods is a problem that could explode. Truth is many Latinos hold racist ideas and honestly they could stay where they come from with that mindset.
AMEN
While I’m sure this book is solely about the rise of white nationalism in the Latino community in America, my hope is she’ll touch on the rise of nationalism in Mexico, Argentina, Brazil, and other countries.
Growing in Europe too and migration is the issue too.
the rise of the pendejos for Trompeta
In Union City, NJ, I witnessed the promised support of fellow local Cubans for the those newly arrived from Cuba evaporate when those that arrived were not as white as them. I remember many of them telling me I could not be Puerto Rican because I was lighter skinned than them y colorao. The white superiority of the European colonist became part of culture within and without the EEUU border.
So enjoyed this conversation. Really eye opening.
@@classic_kennedy good point about the pick shift away from Liberation Theology.
You think that liberation theology is dominant within Roman Catholic thought?
@@cablenewsfanatic5634 No, not at all. Individuals within the Church have to seek out this sect of theology for themselves. Like I said, Latinos face a unique situation, having to play essentially two cultural roles in the US. Because there are several competing values that aren't easily resolved within the institutions of the US Latinos may feel alienated and opt for a more private individual way of being, one that removes them from the political stress or they may identify with a dominate group politically to feel like they do belong. There is no easy route...
Bring bassem youssef on the main show
Great interview
Do not try to make sense of the low self-esteem of many Latino men and women, they leave their countries but never leave the cultural ideology.
All races have their tokens. We all know tokens get spent.
As a Puerto Rican, I'm noticing a lot of young men gravitating towards that same extremism.
Are they college educated? It's not against the law to read. Get a book.
Sadly so… a malignant, mostly unconscious question to feel better about themselves…

1. Every group will have a small chunk that want to be in the “house”.
2. I’d imagine there are some that hate Castro and associate that with communism and idiots of all colors LOVE conflating communism/socialism with Democrats or anything non-right.
3. Every color of immigrant in this countries history has a long standing tradition of hating the immigrants who haven’t made it in yet. Watch Gangs of New York.
4. Religion. I shouldn’t need to go further into this.
Late edit: becoming the oppressing group is a tradition of America. That’s when people think they’ve made it, when there is finally someone they can look at and see they have it better than. Keeps us turning the hamster wheel while not rocking the boat. When you’re concentrating on keeping easy targets down, you’re not focused on how your betters are keeping you down.
