Your lesson has completely changed my golf game. Wish i would found you alot sooner. Thank you. From shooting 100 to almost breaking 80 within months of changing. No more shanks and embarassment and changing my swing everytime i go play. Literally. Thank you! Ps. Inside of elbows pointing outward and elbows attached to your body instead of the arms attached to body is the main ingredient with the grip. If you can get this down it will change everything.

I have to say, I've spent thousands in lessons and I've been taught different swings every time. It was my search for the Hogan swing that led me to your sight and I have enjoyed it tremendously. I've watched everything I can find on hogan and it's nice to have it explained. Thanks for keeping this free. I practiced the elbow body move and had one of the best driving days of my life. I hit 11 fairways with my driver.
Just like you Christo and all your subscribers, I am constantly searching for the answers. So much so that I constantly tinker and try different concepts and teachings. However, I have to admit, I always seem to come back to the one plane swing and Hogan concepts after straying. Remarkably, my ball striking improves. I also love with Martin Ayers, Mike Mave's and Elk "Dirters'" Thanks again for sharing. You have been an inspiration to me and my journey.
Great stuff! I am a PGA golf teaching professional and I have to tell you; great work! I refer my students to your videos often, and I myself have taught Ben Hogan (not in the detail you are expressing) but My swing core values are aligned with Mr. Hogans. Thank you, for your inspiration.
I started playing 6 years ago. Practice a lot at the range. Do about 3 lessons a year. I read this book and it made the biggest difference. Good job covering this book. You cover the material quite accurately.
Thank you for revealing the "Hogan Secret" and putting it in terms we can all understand. I'm not sure everyone appreciates how allusive this has been in the golfing world or how important. Way to go!
The best instructional golf videos I've ever seen. The simplicity of the swing is understandable now. My goal is to be able to strike the ball well and finish balanced on the left side as Mr. Hogan did. I believe the key may be that, at impact, Mr. Hogan, and most good ball strikers, already have the majority of their weight and center of gravity on their left side, making a balanced finish the result.

I always enjoy your your videos. Thank you very much! I have a one comment on your explanation about the swing plane. Actually, Hogan mentioned in his five lessons book that downswing plane is different from backswing plane. The downswing starts from the lower body and it brings the right shoulder down at first, so the plane is slightely tilted from the original backswing plane. That is the reason why hogan emphasize in his book that the downswing must be INSIDE OUT.
Excellent lesson. Hogan was a master and you crystallize in your presentation his key points. You are a first rate instructor. And your respect for Ben Hogan is very honorable. He was an incredible athlete.
agree with everything you said, the golf swing is a work in progress at all times, just when you think, i've got it, it's gone, that is why hogan dug it out of the dirt and kept digging it, all his life
great video and analysis of hogans swing, ,; helped me out tremendously watching the way his lower body leads his upper through impact. so many other videos i've watched emphasize the shoulder turn and maintaining a proper spine angle, for ie. tom watson, that i've found this video so much more useful in my practice.
These are probably the three most essential points for any golfer with a rotation driven swing. The proof is in the pudding, you hit the ball really well in your videos.
I grew up in the 70's and started playing with the same equipment that Hogan played with and I can tell you that you have to be so much more precise to hit it like Ben did.
Thanks for you tips I feel I will get there only just returned to golf after years away but this video you put together is easy to follow and feels great trying these tips out RUclips is great with people like you on it from David in the uk.
Hi from Denmark. I have been quite good at tennis, ishokey and tae kwon do and more. Started playing golf about 10 years ago and it was good and got better (played after feel and what I saw from other good players).... Until I got lessons - it totally destroyed my swing and I am sick of it. I have been following you from the beginning and I am about to rebuild my swing (at least trying). You explain things so that I understand and video helps a lot. release has changed. My back swing is shorter.
This is a great video for all golfers. Good job! I also enjoyed the one-hand drives....very impressive. In a future video, would you please comment on Hogan's waggle? This was a very important item in his book.
One thing I picked up on, is that his upper body gets a little closer to to ball during the back swing. Then when he gets close to impact he uses his back muscles to get leverage that is delivered to the ball when his back lifts up slightly. I have been watching some of the Professional Bowlers (the sport). Some of the good bowlers get more bent at the waist during their approach to the foul line, and they lift up slightly with their back muscles when they release their ball towards the pins. I think this delivers leverage that reduces stress on the knees, which is very important in golf. I think Tiger Woods uses his back muscles in the impact area which applies leverage that is delivered when striking the golf ball. Luke
I have been thinking about this question for some time. I do believe that the lower body action of this swing can be tough on the back. I think Freddy Couples has this move down, but his poor back has been his El Guapo. Rocco Mediate and Jimmy Ballard have the body moving more in one piece that might be a good way to go if you have a bad back. But, they still keep those elbows in.
Good Video. One note though. page 90 of Hogan's 5 lessons' book states that on your downswing, you must start with shifting your weight to the left first before the hips start turning. Look at his swing and you'll see.
Mr. Hogan says the downswing begins from the knees to the hips letting the upper body and then arms and hands follow. So, to me, it starts from the ground up.
Where did I say that? :) I said that where you need 3 right hands. Yes, you hit the ball with both hands but I prefer the feeling of hitting a tennis forehand with the right, rather than a backhand with the left.
Thanks for the quick reply, Christo I was wondering do you have a video or segment that you show your beautiful swing from griping the club to hitting the ball in steps or what moves come next. I have been replaying the hogan secret again and again and it's fantastic.
Hi Christo. Fantastic video as usual - the elbows anchored to the body is a key part of my swing change over the last year. Question - in a previous video you spoke about how you drop your arms into the downswing, I always thought this wasn't needed in the Hogan swing as the right arm is already in the slot , or have I got this totally confused? John
Thanks for the reels, tour caddy 75/76’. It was honor to caddy colonial. And i love the L.A. open. My motel side kick was michael mazio (from Philadelphia, can’t spell name),, fuzzy’s caddy. I traveled all over east-west with see-more and golf-ball in the old buick grandma gave me, two of the greatest black caddies ever. Floyd’s caddy and can’t remember other pro. 66 now I am. George and artie mcnickel called me monkey:) The pro-ams in california were incredible from clint to columbo, glen campbell to evil and all in between. Pebble beach, Palm springs (bob hope desert classic) andy williams San Diego open, L.A. open @ riviera cc. I remember houston open 75’ we did 36 in one day, so hot grass would crunch when you walked on it.
The key with Hogan’s swing was his right elbow always tucked into his side on the upswing and the downswing. I’ve never seen any other golfer with their right elbow so tightly connected to their side throughout the swing motion.
I already swing with a flat plane, but need to work on the downswing. I think I'm going to begin this adventure of a hogan like swing. Im a 5 handicap currently, I expect it to rise!
If you want to lower your handicap more practice Chipping, Pitching, Sand and Putting. Just don't go to the range and warm up and then start pounding drivers. Chipping, Pitching, Sand and Putting are never practiced. Try it and you will see a difference.
good stuff, i wish you'd do more content about the swing mechanics and you're swing itself and what you feel etc, i bet that would be very very popular :)
Hi Christo, ifni have missed a video of yours that shows your complete seing from griping the club to hitting the ball, please let me know or any other video that uou have done so in. Cheers
MSE is a better internet instructor than Johnny Miller. 1) Swing from the bottom, not from the top, 2) Keep your elbows close to your body, 3) Initially, pull with the left shoulder instead of pushing with the right. 4) Stay under the glass plane, 5) hold off with the right arm until the shaft is parallel to the turf. That's great advice, but, just to show off, I'd add two more things: a) for guys - keep your balls behind the ball with the driver and don't post up on the left leg prior to impact with the driver, and b) for gals - use the one over and one under rule in reference to your boobs, ie get your right tricep pressed against your right hooter on the downswing as soon as you can. Do that while maintaining a straight left arm, which should be pressing against the top of your left hooter. Remember golf is not a robot game. You can get too mechanical. Golf is a feel game; so, keep your boobs and balls in the game. Good luck.
Christo, hi and I've just started watching your videos....great stuff...so I live in Dallas and my instructors played regularly with Ben Hogan and I thought I might introduce you to him if you have not yet met him.
Used your advice and thoughts this morning. Hit the ball solidly and straight. Started with 4 pars. 3 over for the first 9 holes. Then the wind came up and blew a gale. Still hit the ball great but the weather really affected me on the greens. Played to my 14 handicap. Can I keep it going?
Even Moe would say only he and Hogan had the swing... Moe could hit the ball dead straight but not long yet he was brilliant. Hogan and that signature fade that I would love to have on command. I can hit them straight or draw but I would love that fade
with part #3 are you saying that on on the down and forward swing you should feel like you're hitting a left handed backhand, with the left arm thrusting forward and the right arm just coming along for the ride???
This was an amazing recap of Hogan's basics. If the average weekend hacker took 5 minutes to watch and understand this video , he would no longer be an average hack. I went from a 15 to a 5 and it's only because I learned how to hit it from the inside. The ball goes way further which helps, don't let anyone tell you different. I'd rather hit 9 iron than 5 iron any day. Now, how the hell do you hit a 5 foot putt consistently ?
problem is the average hack doesn't want to take the time. I've tried showing ppl on the range this concept and half of them give up and go back to hacking but others have stuck it out in within 20 mins they are hitting solidarity and straight.
my ball striking in the last two weeks is gotten way better with this concept only 8 months in and a 10 handicap using this method and I assume it will continue to drop bc mishits are getting fit her and farther in between
Practice by starting out putting 3 foot putts. Take 5 balls each ball is 20% 5x20=100%. Then after you practice putting from 3 feet away start moving back to 5 feet. Now if you can put 5 balls from 3 feet away at least 60% of the time you should be able to sink 5 balls from 5 feet away at a rate of 60%. Reading greens has a lot to do with it. If you want to make money without taking a club out of your bag bet someone that they can't putt 5 ball in a row from 3 feet away. There are no warm ups. I've a ton of money on this bet. but practice 3 feet, 5 feet, 7 feet 10 feet. Go out on days that you are not playing by doing this you will become a better putter.
Great Video Christo. You should look up, golf pro Bobby Schaeffer, He has great instruction videos, and he lives in Ca. He is a big fan of Bobby Jones and Ben Hogan. Bobby's swing is smooth and effortless an resembles Mr. Hogan's swing. At 5'8" 160lbs he drives 300yards and short game is nothing less than awesome. He uses body pivot for power and keeps is hands out of the swing. Ultimate Golf Swing and Hot Touch 2 videos are my favorites. Some of his clips are here on RUclips.
I like a lot of things about Moe Norman's swing, and I find the basic elements close to Doug Sander's swing. It's short and accurate. The problem I have is he did not hit it very long, but Hogan was long and accurate. I like Moe's elbow move, and how the does not flip the club face.
Love these videos. Still frustrated with finding some lag and a downward hit on the ball. I've always hit a draw and i start my downswing with my legs and hips but no matter what I do i cast the club and scoop the ball. i've heard that if you start with your legs its impossible to cast but somehow I found a way.
+movie guy99 I don't recall ever saying that you cannot cast if you start with your legs, but you are ahead of the pack if you are using your lower body. You may not need to change your release as Jack Nicklaus believed you could not release the club too early. However, if you would like to create more lag, feel like you are going to hit the ball with the butt end of the club. That will give you some of the feeling you need.
+myswingevolution Sorry I was actually thinking of that Nicklaus quote too and I know you didn't say that exactly. At 2:30ish you say something about starting with the lower body before the upper body and that this is what lag really is. I can remember in Hogan's book he talked about how important it is to start with the lower body and that no one believes him that this is practically all he thinks about in the downswing.
sounds like your hands are taking over and the lead wrist is breaking down and having a "bent" angle when at impact. Imagine shoving through the impact zone with the emblem on your gloved hand to keep that wrist and arm solid at impact. remember whatever the lead arm/wrist does the club face will follow as it is literally an extension of the arm in the golf swing. "the golf swing is the easiest thing that the mind makes the hardest"...Ben Hogan
Thanks for your input. I've tried similar exercises to what you are describing were I force my left hand to be pointed downward at impact. The result is I usually get an a knockdown windcheater hook that I can't control. In general I hit my irons extremely low and I only take divots with my wedges. I've never have the feeling of compressing the ball unless I really force it like you are describing then I get divots and a delofted clubface but I get a shot that is extremely low. I also have the feeling like my swing is controlled by the timing of my hands and Im trying to get away from that. To me lag is the most difficult thing to master. No matter what I do I can't seem to get a feel for how its created. If you ask 10 different teachers they will give you 10 different reasons for how it is generated and I feel like I've tried em all. I'm not a bad player...roughly a 10 handicap but I've heard that the difference between a scratch golfer and a 10 handicap is lag followed by forward shaft lean at impact.
Hey Christo I have just started revamping my swing based on your videos. I have posted a couple of my swings on my page. Would love your feedback on what you see. I sent you a FB msg as well! Thanks for posting these videos! Great stuff!
I just clicked on this and watched the intro. I thought that was Christo's latest swing at the beginnig. I thought wow thats the best I have seen him swing. Seconds later I realised that it was the real Hogan lol
your videos were the genesis of a reinvestigation of my own swing mechanics. After spending the past couple months, 2-3 days a week, I am now killing the ball. The important thing for me...? I know WHY. When I don't kill it? I know WHY. thanks MSE.
That makes me so happy to hear! This stuff changed my swing for the better and it's really getting great. I am honored to share because it all started with Master Hogan.
***** Thanks for your opinion! I have hundreds of people a week thanking me for helping them better understand the swing. BTW - out of all the players measured on the PGA, Jim Furyk most consistently returned the club face to square on the ball. As for me doing "more harm than good," I have had 3.6 million people view my videos so I think that is debatable. What have you done?
*****"Fundamental" connotes there's only ONE way to do it properly. ;) the swing for me is Turn back allowing the clubface to open, turn thru allowing the clubface to close, that's it. I don't manipulate a thing, thanks to MSE teaching. Thanks, MSE!! lol ;) I have been PURE-ING it!
I disagree, Ken. I have been hitting beautiful fades by just adjusting the clubface at address,... my arms, wrists and hands are still passive, allowing the clubface to square up by turning. My normal shot is dead-straight. Just my 2 cents, boss. The important thing is to practice. :o)
***** I agree. Everyone has a method. The one move that "instructors" never teach amateurs is the move to the ball. Not the plane or ball position or etc. but....well I can't give the secret away now can I. But you will find that most if not all accomplished players have this move.
Yes, the upper body does follow, but except for the right elbow. The right elbow is in sink with the hips and is the pulling force of the right hand. It's better to pull the right hand rather than push the right hand.
I believe Hogan had a slight bump to the left then everything synched up in the swing. Its not hip then arms. Its bump or shift then everything works together.
Still no mention of Hogan "Hinging" his hands, in his swing, which he did. He didn't describe it in his book, some think it was something he wanted to keep quiet about whatever. Dustin Johnson, Brooks Koepka, John Rahm do it. Moe Norman and Byron Nelson did it. Some people have sold this hinge in Hogan's swing as "Hogan' Secret" ha.
Great stuff Mr Garcia but in a a golf tournament. Under pressures with lots of money on the line. Do you think all these thoughts will hold up??? I don't think Ben Hogan was ever thinking .but I know he was think one thing! He was thinking of his secret. Which only very few know about hopefully one day I can get more time with you to explain how Ben Hogan showed me trackman in wrong or flawed
Hickory Trickory the ONLY I admire about your response here is showing me a book that I knew nothing about...THE TALENT CODE...I've just ordered it...THANK YOU. Now Mr Garcia may not be "Perfect or Closest" to how you would've liked him to be to BEN HOGAN but he,according to me,is the closest to explaining BEN HOGAN'S swing better than any teacher I've seen on RUclips...give credit where it's due Sir,the gentleman tried/is trying to come as close as possible to being a mirror image of the GREATEST GOLF SWING OF ALL.✌🏿
This is the absolute best Hogan summary out there. I come back to this video for refresher all the time.

"All I know is I've seen Nicklaus watch Hogan hit balls, but I ain't never seen Hogan watch Nicklaus" - Tommy Bolt
maybe it was because Hogan died 10+ years ago.
But Nicklaus already played pro golf 50+ years ago...
The key with Hogan’s swing was his right elbow always tucked into his side on the upswing and the downswing. I’ve never seen any other golfer with their right elbow so tightly connected to their side throughout the swing motion.
Kelly Coleman Is encourage you to look at Hogan from down the line. His right elbow definitely separates from his torso. It’s important.
Not by much. And that was the biggest key to his consistently straight swing.
Great vid, please keep it up!
I just got finished reading ben hogan's book and I'm about to have my second golf lesson
That's fantastic!!! Enjoy the ride!
@@MiracleSwingExperience thanks
And where i have my golf lesson is on a farm
I had a lot of good hits on the golf ball i was on a driving range and hit about 110 golf balls
I already swing with a flat plane, but need to work on the downswing. I think I'm going to begin this adventure of a hogan like swing. Im a 5 handicap currently, I expect it to rise!
Post a video on myswingevolution.com and I can take a look at it!
If you want to lower your handicap more practice Chipping, Pitching, Sand and Putting. Just don't go to the range and warm up and then start pounding drivers. Chipping, Pitching, Sand and Putting are never practiced. Try it and you will see a difference.
You'll want to start including a link to your website in the about/description area.
good stuff, i wish you'd do more content about the swing mechanics and you're swing itself and what you feel etc, i bet that would be very very popular :)
Nice video - Hogan was the best!
Awesome!.
No e visto ninguna preguntas en español me extraña porqué es excelente shuyn y muy práctico GRACIAS Cristo
Used your advice and thoughts this morning. Hit the ball solidly and straight. Started with 4 pars. 3 over for the first 9 holes. Then the wind came up and blew a gale. Still hit the ball great but the weather really affected me on the greens. Played to my 14 handicap. Can I keep it going?
thank you
Even Moe would say only he and Hogan had the swing... Moe could hit the ball dead straight but not long yet he was brilliant. Hogan and that signature fade that I would love to have on command. I can hit them straight or draw but I would love that fade
Is it possible to get in shang grala position while taking the club back?
with part #3 are you saying that on on the down and forward swing you should feel like you're hitting a left handed backhand, with the left arm thrusting forward and the right arm just coming along for the ride???
You're a beast thanks
Hi Christo, I have been wanting to ask you what are your thoughts on Moe Normans swing. would you recommend practicing it.
THX
I'm dead serious about rebuilding my swing as I don't much improvement in my swing. How do I follow your videos?
Great with thanks.
Are you Thai? Because of SAWADDEE at the end.
more lessons?
I believe Hogan had a slight bump to the left then everything synched up in the swing. Its not hip then arms. Its bump or shift then everything works together.
Still no mention of Hogan "Hinging" his hands, in his swing, which he did. He didn't describe it in his book, some think it was something he wanted to keep quiet about whatever. Dustin Johnson, Brooks Koepka, John Rahm do it. Moe Norman and Byron Nelson did it. Some people have sold this hinge in Hogan's swing as "Hogan' Secret" ha.
Ira Shoff I refer to it as Shangri-La in my work.
Mike Williams You have to get to the point of unconscious competence. Look up the four stages of competence.
Hickory Trickory the ONLY I admire about your response here is showing me a book that I knew nothing about...THE TALENT CODE...I've just ordered it...THANK YOU.
Now Mr Garcia may not be "Perfect or Closest" to how you would've liked him to be to BEN HOGAN but he,according to me,is the closest to explaining BEN HOGAN'S swing better than any teacher I've seen on RUclips...give credit where it's due Sir,the gentleman tried/is trying to come as close as possible to being a mirror image of the GREATEST GOLF SWING OF ALL.✌🏿
does Bobby Jones swing like Hogan ?
I'm pretty sure Ben knows he's also leading with his right elbow tucked in font of his right hip. He's able to do that with Sideways body lean.
Where does the hogan shangri-la come into play?
Conal Smith It's the moment just before the club is released and the clubhead is coming at the ball from the inside.
