    Fencing methods don’t have to be stuck in your granddaddy’s era! In order to find the strongest farm fence, we build a DOT-compliant traditional wood H brace fence with low-carbon wire, and test it against a welded steel pipe diagonal (rance) brace high tensile fence with Tornado Wire. If you've ever wondered how to build a fence for your farm that will withstand the most loading, don't miss this!

    Hey, I am a WYDOT supervisor. Sounds like I need to watch more of your fencing videos, so we can build our fences better. By the way on Wyoming highway 59 the coal miners test our fences like this all the time!

    I'm watching videos on how to build a perimeter fence out of fresh cut cedar posts and standard rolled wire 1047, I think. Anyway, I don't know if any fence will hold up to a car being driven through it? This doesn't seem like a reasonable test. Thanks for putting this video out, anyway.

  • @wagnerfarm5550
    @wagnerfarm5550 3 года назад +3

    Your diagonals are backwards for wood fence. They’ll cause the corner to lift. The opposite direction will transfer the lift from the corner to the brace so both have to lift at the same time.

    • @rubes1688

      If the diagonal wires were the other direction it would be helping the rest of the wires pull the brace over rather than pulling against it

    Looks like he skipped steepling stays and didn't beat them in. We put two on each stay on braces and beat them in after stretching to hold, and snug the steeples in the line posts.

    This goes to show you that anyone can make it Merica. You can be a "craftsman" and not know how to use a hammer. Of course, getting 9 gauge wire in the eye, a fence post on a bare foot, or a pressure treated splinter in your hand may slow you down a bit, at least you can tell everyone how to build a fence.

    Wow those posts really are garbage, it really depends where you go. My local “farming” shop sells £6 posts which are first of all overpriced and second of all they are of the lowest quality. Treatment only goes a few millimetres into the timber. Whereas at my local timber supplier who specialises in fencepost treatment, I can get the same dimension posts which are incised (have 6mm deep cuts to absorb more chemical), kiln dried before treatment to absorb more chemical and also slow grown pine which are more durable than cheap spruce posts. And the best part is that they’re only £4 each for 180cm high 88mm diameter 15 year service life posts. The treatment goes in at least a good half inch into the timber, I still retreat it with copper nampehenate though when I make cuts just to help it last longer. What you really want though are creosote redwood posts, these are made of redwood which is naturally much more durable than pine, they are also pressure treated with creosote which makes them last 40+ years at least! After cutting one in half you can see that the treatment almost reaches the core which is damn impressive.

Waarom moet ik altijd werkschoenen dragen? Ik merk dat er vaak minder blessures zijn als je je hersenen gebruikt om voorzichtig te zijn.
