Jep handled that comment very very well. I watch duck dynasty all day and listen to their podcast so I understand Phil and to hear that got on my nerves a little but jep just took a breath and handled it with composure

What exactly is black culture? I am black and grew up in an urban segregated low income neighborhood & diverse middle income neighborhood and the only differencesI found were seasoning food, taking bathes/ showers at night and using body lotion to combat ashy skin and how mean black people are to each other.
I adopted my daughter. Was in the delivery when she was born 26 and has her own family my grandchildren. Thank you Jesus Christ for this beautiful gift

In general having a black spouse, mixed children, mixed grandchildren, a black dog, black boots does not necessarily make someone a non- racist or non-prejudice person. Those are all reasons Ive heard ppl say that they could not be racists "because I ( they) have a black dog and have a pair of black boots" for real! Its great that he has a good home, but let’s not dismiss peoples’ concerns. Remember the two white women who adopted a bunch of black kids. Starved them, abused them, and killed them by driving off a cliff with them in the car. Or the old white couple who kept their adopted black kids in cages. In this case i believe the little boy is loved, but we cannot dismiss what others have gone through recently. When I watched their show and when they picked him up and I saw he was black I was shocked but in a joyful way he is a beautiful child he needed a home she wanted another baby God made a way for Gus and Jess to get what they both needed and brought them together
Phil Robertson never said anything that was racially inflamatory! His comments were regarding same sex relationships. He never mentioned anything about race. GMA did a poor job but Jep and Jessica handled it very well. Great family and great examples!

I know this is old, but as a black woman I have major issue with this particular family adopting a black child. Grandpa Phil said that Black people were happier during the Jim Crow era. Which made me sick to my stomach when I first heard that. Then not long after he made those comments Jep and Jessica adopt this child. And at the end of the episode Grandpa Phil makes a comment like.."we are all a part of the human race.. blah blah blah" which seemed to me to try to placate everyone who was taken aback by his foul and racist comment. And if you don't know about the Jim Crow era please do your research. I haven't watched this show since he made the comments and will never again. I pray that child grows up knowing his ancestry and loves himself for who he is as a black male.

ma284 I do understand your reaction, but if you think about it black folks were nicer to each other during those hateful times. I don't think he was saying they were happy about the way racist white folks treated them, and segregation and what not. But the family unit was way more intact, and the kids in the community wasn't killing each other at the rate they are nowadays. The music was more joyful and loving, and didn't degrade black women, and brag about killing each other sleeping with someone's baby mama, pimping, and selling drugs. All that is a recipe for pain and anger, every one I know who escaped that lifestyle is happier. I mean think about it. That's how I interpreted it, I don't think he was condoning the way black Americans were treated by white folks. Don't take it wrong way though I'm not trying to say all black Americans are not happy nowadays cause I know that's not true.
That's because white people deal with us (blacks) on a case by case basis. So it's completely possible to adopt black babies even though you harbor prejudice/ racists thoughts about black people. It's the "you're not like them" narrative.

This was filmed yrs ago on their first season show --- Jessica ask her mom to babysit the baby because she had to attend a meeting at job her mom said yes, but jessica father told jessica no that he didn't want that black baby in his house so her mom wasn't able to babysit the baby so Jessica had to take the baby with her to the meeting at work.

I am so confused by this. I usually love it when white ppl. adopt black/brown kids. I feel anyone in the position to give love and a home should do so and the more u go out of ur comfort zone and/or refuse to power to racial stratifications the better. But given this family's past of racist speak I am so worried for this kid. And what adoption agency would place him with this family?
