How to tie your BJJ Gi Belt [Superlock Style]

YOO what is up everyone! In this BJJ Gi video I wanted to simply talk about how to tie your belt in BJJ. This video is mostly geared towards white belts who don't know how to keep their BJJ Gi belt tied or they tie their BJJ Gi belt in such a way that they look silly.
The style of knot that I use is called the Superlock Style. I tie my BJJ Gi belt in the Superlock Style because it creates a professional looking knot that stays put even in the most aggressive of BJJ rolls. Also it looks really good in pictures and all around shows that even if you have no skill in BJJ you will at least look good while getting smashed on the mats.
Please note that there are many ways to tie your BJJ Gi belt but the Superlock Style is the one that I favor.

This is my favorite knot as it looks great, stays tied pretty well, and easy to retighten quickly. But I like doing the Hollywood wrap around my waist as it’s cleaner looking as opposed to this double wrap which criss crosses in the back.
Yeah I agree with that, I like the single clean look but it takes more time. this version is just the fast way to get it tied which I like for comps/ rolls when you’re on the clock.

Mission one my kids practice this everyday until they’ve got the nicest tied belts at the school. Mission 2 (maybe same mission) I do the same for my belt. For now I’ll use the black side since it doesn’t have stripes 😂

I think an interesting question is, do you want your belt to come undone during a match? I could see an argument both ways. If you have no belt, the opponent can’t grip it, but it opens up your lapels for them to use against you.
I think overall it’s worse for you, but it depends on the situation.
Also if your belt comes undone you get more time to tie it. Could be beneficial if you need to rest

One of my pet peeves is when someone *doesn't* tie their belt this way.
It’s become my pet peeve as well. It irks me when they tie the belt and it looks vertical too.

That knot is an invalid knot according to Brazilian rules, plus that belt is fake, I am an almost red black belt (I have dedicated my life to Brazilian, I have dedicated almost 80 years to it) I started when I was 5 years old and that style of tying your belt is wrong.
