    I've been saying for years this guy is the MOST underrated BJJ practitioner on RUclips bar none. His tip on the arm drag is THE BEST TIP I've ever learned about the arm drag. It's shocking how it is not widespread by now because it is a total game changer for successfully getting to the back from the arm drag. I just watched Danaher's instructional on the arm drag and it is deficient when you compare to the tips you get on the arm drag from this guy. I sincerely hope he gets onto BJJfanatics because I feel like he needs exposure to the greater BJJ worldwide community and deserves the recognition.

    I agree with basically everything you are saying, especially when you say that the worst thing that can happen is being taken down. When you are taken down, then you have to work your escapes or get yourself into a superior position. As for pulling guard, I’ve done that to people for years, but if somebody knows what they are doing it is going to be a lot more difficult to get a submission. Pulling guard on someone who is not well trained is something I have done with success and they always give up a submission. But I really like your video and I thank you for your advice.

    The head height one surprises me. I always thought I had trouble shooting because I tend to be postured up too high and then dropping for a shot is a relatively long way to get down to a leg. The way it is explained here makes sense though. There are many bad things that can happen if you decide to not pull guard. Pulling guard is definitely safer against unpredictable opponents. But point taken.

    Like the tips! Only thing I disagree with, is that if you're training BJJ and you're already half way into a match with stagnation in standing, i would pull guard just to get things going and be able to practice. I don't see it as a self defence technique, but more of a "let's get this match started now in an interesting way". That being said, I would NEVER just sit to guard (unless I'm going against a totally new person who has no takedown safety or skills yet).

Being stronger at takedowns means you have full control on where the fight is. Completely removing guard pulling from your arsenal altogether removes a whole variety of attack strategies your opponent does not need to be concerned about.

    Completely disagree with the pull guard statement. It absolutely has a time and a place. For one it's important to have the skill of being able to off balance someone and find top position after being put on your ass.
    And what about Gordon's run in ADCC 2022? One of the reasons why he was able to pull it off is due to his high efficiency for energy expenditure from settling for bottom position.
    Or Lachlan Giles's run as a bronze medallist in 2019. Pulling guard made the discrepancy in strength with his opponents irrelevant, making it a game of pure technicality. Now he's known as one of the most successful jiu-jitsu athletes from Australia.
    Overall I think the objective should be competent in all positions, standing and seated included, and you cannot become so without putting yourself in that position.
    However, I suppose one of the reasons for saying such a controversial statement is to bait people like me to leave comments and start discussions like this 🤣

    • @Phoenixf66
      @Phoenixf66 5 месяцев назад

      I dont think he mean it to click bait at all, the thing is you will never get better at take downs and standing hand fight if you just pull guard as soon as you can. And for pure jiujitsu rules maybe its ok, but if practice jj for self defense or to improve in other sports like MMA its better to get better at take downs and to to stay on top

      @@Phoenixf66 very good points there, I don't disagree with you at all. It reminds me of Giancarlo Bodoni's advice in training to always have at least one round where you start standing, rather than just pulling guard straight away.

    Something is missing from jiu jitsu. We don’t have a method of incorporating takedowns that is completely safe from injury; we have wrestlers in our ranks who are really good at takedowns, and everyone else (who can’t safely bridge the skill gap) sees a safe path in pulling guard.
    I don’t like pulling guard. It’s a deeply flawed tactic. At the same time, a gym owner has a serious dilemma on his hands unless he wants to make cripples of his fifty-something-year-old white belts. Until that method is developed, teaching the stand up game is very bad for business.
