    I started studying Shaolin Kung Fu in 1969. Changed my life immensely. I. 67 soon to be 68. Not as flexible and limber as I used to be. New knee and arthritis in in left hip. But I still train. I train Shotokan Katas using more fluid Kung Fu move. Combining the two has really kept me in great fighting shape. Even at 69.

    Most people couldn't imagine the training they go through. It's a life changing commitment. Shaolin appears martial but it is also spiritual. You are training yourself to recognize the body, it's movement, and the energy that flows through it. The energy is very subtle, and hard to recognize for the thick headed. It requires constant training to become aware of the mechanics happening within. Then with full awareness, once trained, your moves are automatic, no thought, free flowing like energy. You will also notice that time is relaxed, and you have more mental space.

      i agree with the spirtuality and hardwork but the engergy thing... Dude every single fighter knows the first week that the energy for your strikes comes from the ground , flowing to the end of the striking limb. Thats all.

    The Kun Fu taught in this video is articulate and well performed. The core stances teach you a foundation for the rest of the movements in the art form. If you noticed when he was performing the kicks he was switching between stances to enable him to build strength in the movement. If you do not practice the stances you will have no fluidity to your movements.

    I recommend to do this if you are training sports like me, i actually started this to get more flexcibility bc of soccer and finnish baseball but know i started to take kunfu classes as a hobby and when i got there we had to show what we got and the sensei at the school was impressed and asked if im done any martial arts before and i just sais that no ive done only these shaolin munks kunfu steps every morning from yt and they actually gave that as a homework to do for other students xd so thank you again who ever decided to make these vids, they are really helping thanks!!

    I regret not learning any of this as a kid. I kept thinking at the time that I'd never use it, and that I don't want to put the work into it. I stuck with that up till now. And here I am, failing school, and my family is disappointed I'm me. I'm wanting to make myself learn and grow up. I need to stop thinking of what might happen, I need to think of what will happen. I'm not gonna hide in a hole anymore, I don't know when to stop digging. I haven't yet watched the video, but I am hoping that it will help me in making me a better person.

I have been practicing a few movements from this video for a couple years now! ...I have been practicing the basic principles of Kung Fu for many years and I am happy to know I was taught correctly although this true Kung Fu you offer and explain is so much "tougher". Saicee Yhan After a week or two weeks, your body will lessen the pain. To train more easily, the important step is to warm up your body and relax your muscles before starting your workout, so take a few minutes to warm up your body before you start. You can give each movement from about 30 seconds to one minute at the first practice session and gradually increase 15 - 30 seconds for each movement on each subsequent training day depending on your body's ability. Or you simply count yourself every time you practice, such as punching or kicking 10 times and increasing 5 times a day. And remember to increase the time slowly, because when you first start exercising your body is not used to movement, it will make your muscles hurt. Be patient and exercise regularly every day to achieve the results you want.

    • @jamescobrien
      @jamescobrien 8 лет назад +6

      Lance Prep Try the wudang style horse stance because it's harder and very natural. You see, when you ride an actual horse, your feet are only about shoulder width apart. You must maintain good posture while doing this, so only go as low as you can with your back still verticle. Hold it at whatever height as long as you can once a day. Within six months your thighs should be parallel with the ground. the longer you hold it, the higher you will be able to jump.
      There feet in this video are extremely wide and no one rides a horse like that.

    • @DrRobynKelley313
      @DrRobynKelley313 6 лет назад

      In karate, the horse stance is the first one taught. It is brutal in karate. You need to start by doing stretches first. When doing the positions just hold for brief time at first a couple tumes a day, then steadily increase the time holding the positions. It gets easier once you get your muscles in shape.

      @@yusufsumtallee7374 no, Karate and Kung Fu are vastly different. Karate is brutal, whereas Kung Fu is soft but firm. It's like the difference between hitting someone with a stick vs blasting someone with a water hose. Just as effective, but entirely different. Plus, Karate is hard on the body, but Kung Fu uses natural body movements, which makes it easier on the body.

      It's like how the two people behind the person showing how to do the exercises are doing it in different levels. Usually the person on the left demonstrates the beginner's level, and the person in the front are obviously the expert. It's just to show that you don't have to do it perfect if you've just started.
