I started watching “The Bear” because of Katie, Andy, and Peter. I just want to thank you guys for exposing me to the show because it wasn’t even on my radar. This show exemplifies good, if not, great acting and You don’t need explosions, space battles or even hand to hand combat to enjoy it. The acting is top notch. Katie, I remember when you said that working in a Kitchen environment was just like the environment that they show on “The Bear”. That really made me feel the realism of the show. The Bear is an example of a show that deserves the respect of a show that is trying to show you great acting. I wanted to tear up while I was writing this. This is a show that touches the heart ❤️.

That was beautifully put Brogu and I'm so happy you've enjoyed the Bear so far. It truly is a diamond in the rough. A show that takes the time to create a truly authentic experience and work through real human emotions.

That's an interesting theory, but I don't think that's where they're going. I think Carmy will live. What will die is his belief that he has to be the best and put aside all happiness in order to be great. We have now seen two extreme versions of the restaurant--The Beef, which was a neighborhood favorite, but a filthy, debt-ridden, dysfunctional mess [embodied by Michael], and The Bear, which has the potential to be a Michelin star worthy fine-dining establishment, but without some of the heart and laughter [embodied by Carmy]. As opposite as Michael and Carmy seem, neither one was/is happy. For Michael, that resulted in him sinking into addiction and ultimately taking his own life. Carmy is desperately trying to avoid that fate. We see him attempting to quit smoking and turn down the Xanax that Richie offers him, avoiding choices his addict brother would have made. We see him going to Al Anon meetings, reaching out for help and support in a way Michael never did. We see him attempt to have a relationship, which as far as we know, Michael didn't have.
I think once Carmy deals with all his issues, he will achieve the legacy he said he wanted to, which is for the restaurant to be stress-free, panic-less, a place where he's square with everyone. He will give up pursuing a Michelin star and instead find a happy medium--emphasis on happy. Chef Terry closing her restaurant in season 3 is a hint at this. She's a chef who hit the heights, running a 3-star restaurant, but she leaves it behind to have a life. Carmy keeps getting the message that he can have one or the other, not both. But I think Sydney will be the key to unlocking that possibility. It's no accident that Carmy tells that story about trying to get the perfect gummy bear consistency in a dish, something no one could seem to figure out how to achieve, and she knew the answer was veal fat. I think Carmy is seeking that perfect balance of success and happiness but doesn't know how to do it, but the answer will be in those around him.
I see The Bear becoming more of a cozy local restaurant that serves accessible but elevated food. A place that both the neighborhood regulars and the critics love, and where the staff is really happy to work. After all, the only reason Carmy even went to culinary school and pursued that high-stress elite path was to prove something to Michael, to act out his petty anger at not being allowed to work at the Beef, to get revenge for what he perceived as Michael pushing him away. But Michael is gone now. Carmy doesn't have to keep up what he realizes now was a one-sided battle anyway. Michael wasn't pushing him away because he thought Carmy wasn't good enough but because he was trying to save Carmy. Ultimately, Michael's death will be what inspires Carmy to live. He might even get a star anyway without driving himself so insane. He will be the manifestation of everything Michael could have been if only he'd asked for help.
I don't think the show would end with such an immense tragedy like Carmy dying because 1. It would feel like a repeat of the notes they've already hit with Michael's death. 2. The show has been at its best when they allow the characters some growth and redemption. We know these characters have all suffered huge losses (Sydney's mom and her catering business, Richie's divorce, Tina's financial troubles, Marcus's mom's illness and death, Ebraheim hints at having left a war-torn country behind, Sweeps's baseball career, Unc's brother's death, and of course Carmy, Sugar, and Richie losing their brother and best friend). We want to see them win now, preferably together. 3. The show is still billed as a comedy, so I don't think they'd kill off the beloved main character. [His mom might die, though.] I could maybe see a flash forward to the distant future, where Carmy's grandkid is now running the place, which is now iconic, and we see a picture on the wall of the original Bear crew, so we get to feel like we witnessed history. (And P.S.--I'm still hoping Carmy ends up with Syd, not Claire.)
