- In this crazy world of restaurants and food and family where people throw forks at each other, we’re introduced to Richie. A sour, frustrated, and polarizing character. In the first season he struggles with adapting to Carmy’s new methods, and is concerned with protecting the legacy of the family restaurant. His arc involves balancing his respect for tradition with the changes that Carmy brings to the kitchen.
In the second season, Richie quite starts his journey by questions his purpose. Episode 7 of this season is a masterclass in character development; A loud, condescending, and insecure character, hits rock bottom, and finds meaning in something as simple as cleaning forks, just by changing his environment and opening his mind to the possibility of something better. Its really satisfying to see the self-destructive and demotivated Richie turn into something impressive, teaching Richie and us that EVERY SECOND COUNTS, everyone has their struggles and its scaled to their experiences, all that matters is what we do next...

In Fishes, we are shown Mikey at his lowest as he threw forks. I'd like to think that Richie cleaning forks is a symbolism of him cleaning himself of grief from Mikey's loss. Therefore allowing himself to move on and be better.
Love how raw and beautiful this show is, its like real people documenting their life, love, pain, friends,family,struggles and wins, its the best show❤
Amazing video essay on my favourite episode from the show! I loved seeing Richie slowly learning and understanding where Garret was coming from and the passion he had for acts of service. It was so satisfying for me to finally see Richie discover his purpose and I loved the episode so much. Seeing what Richie learnt be put into action when they opened the restaurant was also amazing to see.

I think one of the greatest nuances in Forks is the fact that when Richie finally comes face to face with Chef Terri, it's not an even more bombastic asshole than the other main chef guy.... it's a super down to earth Olivia Coleman giving a tour de force acting class on saying everything without saying much at all.
