I don't think a 15 yr old understands the gravity of what a shooting does. Hence why they shouldn't have access to guns because they don't make great judgement calls. Also the victim may be empathic, we don't know that...since he's a minor they're not going to reveal his identity. Freak accidents happen unfortunately.

The more we stay quiet on scenarios like this the more black men will never take accountability. Our culture glorifies rap music about having guns & standing on business which makes these kids & young adults think it's ok to kill someone who looks just like them. We should glorify deescalating situations & talking to one another, standing on business is not fighting & shooting standing on business is serving GOD, providing for your family, teaching your children they are not weak for choosing to walk away instead of fighting or hurting the everyday man.

Maybe not so much. This mom seems to be blaming herself, saying things like if my car was parked here, if this, if that. The reporter is making it even tougher on her by playing into her mindset, 2 inches this way or that way and he'd still be here etc. Don't do that to someone who's suffering and already blaming themselves. It's just wrong.
She should sue everything and everyone involved, since it doesn't look like she's going to receive any real justice. This is a damned shame...

@@Celisar1 they had reasonable cause to at least visit the house and question the residents. Any noise complaint should be investigated. Also, if you want to make that argument, you can make it about Elijah McClain. The police investigated that call for nothing.

It appears that if you're one of those people in Chicago who desperately needs help and you have to call the police. The police will NEVER respond to your complaint but it appears that they actually go to the people you're complaining about and let them know that you are complaining. I had to call the police once on a person, the next day that individual spit at me on my way to work. I pray for all of us in Chicago, this city is run by thugs.

Ive been literally begging the news the police to look into this and now Ive lost my right to go to work. Ive contacted all of the agencies who are supposed to protect your civil rights and they send me a form to confirm that they can only help you if this is a racial or sexual situation when it it blatant corruption. The sad part is she probably will. I’ve had the stupidest things happen that aren’t even close to being as serious as what happened to her son and I still occasionally look back and beat myself up over a tiny change that could have made things different. Like, years after someone broke a bone and they’re already healed I’ll be like, if I hadn’t done x, or if I’d done y, they wouldn’t have broken anything. It will happen at the most random of moments. Even if I know it’s not my fault. This is why I sincerely hope she is given the resources to get therapy. It’s the least they can do after not listening to her.
I agree that the killers should not be hidden. We should draw the line at violent crimes when deciding if a minor should be tried as such. All violent crimes should be treated with the utmost seriousness they deserve and not coddle a murderer because they weren’t 18 yet.

Walking through town in a rough area, having the new owner come out and comfort her so warmly and with such compassion really made my eyes spring to tears before i realized what was happening. Its so heartbreaking that Deidre had to go through not just the loss of her husband, but immediately after, the tragic loss of her son. I remember hearing the gunshots only feet away from my old apartment, where a 16 year old shot a 14 year old over a petty argyment in the park next to my place. If i had taken my child to the park that day like I planned to, we woild have been in the trajectory of stray bullets. The only thing that stopped us from going was a silly petty argument, stopping our plans to go out for about half an hour, long enough for us to watch an episode of our show to calm down before going to the park. 22 minutes into the video, we heard the shots. It rocked the neighborhood, and I cried at the thought that we could have been there, the place where we like to sit was where stray bullets lodged, if fate hadn't made me just a little bit crabby that day.
