      Proper posture will not only improve your playing, but allow you to play in comfort for hours at a time.
      I can't stand watching drummers slouch, slump or bounce up and down while playing. The whole body should be relaxed so the energy will flow naturally. Joe Morello always stressed relaxing everything down to the fingers.

    My teacher back in 1998, in my first jazz lesson recommended his book to me, I still have it. Totally recommend it!

    Great video. John Riley is an absolute monster player and educator. His "The Art of Bop Drumming" book is a staple! I'm learning still, always, what an adventure..

    Love this. This is what I use in my playing and it makes fast swing so much easier. His books are amazing as well.

    I think the hardest bit with this technique is the catching motion. I find it hard to get an even flow and same power in the catching stroke than the others.
    Great video btw. Everybody that haven't got his book Art of Bop drumming, should really go out and buy it. It has helped me a lot with my jazz drumming.

    Excellent video! You always have a way of breaking things down so you can realize that everything thing we hear,see and or play is just a matter consistent practice, with nothing but progress to follow!

    what cymbals?

  • @BobCropsey
    @BobCropsey 8 лет назад +2

    Quick hands, good practice ideas thanks.
    Sound would be more enjoyable done on a 22 or 24" heavy ride cymbal.

    But how does he play the repeated 16th bits ?

  • @EleniEliades_
    @EleniEliades_ 8 лет назад +1

    this will help getting the speed up on the ride. I'm a beginner in playing jazz. It looks like this exercise will also help with my ride playing tempo in general. I learn so much from watching your videos. Have you got a DVD out teaching beginning jazz? I know about your book and c.d. It's just the way I learn is more visual.

    This really does work. I started doing this today and I've already improved my up-tempo swing.
