    Meanwhile the rest of the modern world of auto makers allows simple access through the glove compartment. Kudos for this video.

    This is a 15 minute job at most if you follow his instructions carefully and infinite + if you don't. One thing that bears worth mentioning is that you have to have that cover facing THE RIGHT WAY- about the 2:11 mark. Like an idiot, I had it facing the wrong way and tried for almost an hour. Once I correctly faced it, it snapped right into place, although I didn't hear the "click." I feel stupid writing this, but always pay close attention to detail.

      I sat here and read this comment and thought, "how in the world could you put it in the wrong way" and then less than 20 minutes later I spent 5 minutes trying to put the cover on bass ackwards. Sorry for doubting you.
      Update: Got the new filter, swapped them in about 10 minutes. Hardest parts of the job were getting the new filter in place (You shouldn't have to deform a part to install it, Ford "engineers"), and finding the correct part in the store (book referenced incorrect part).
      And bonus: Glancing under passenger seat, I found that jar of olives that I had misplaced!

    Thanks, the screw fell under the carpet, at least the cover snaps in. Might get a replacement later. You weren’t kidding about being tight on space. Engineering is screwed up a bit on this one. Had to get the wife to put the cover on (smaller hands). Ford needs to put them behind the glove box. I changed the Accord’s. Took two minutes.

      +Chad Wilson, It seems poorly designed area to put the uncovered fuse box and air filter. Also I have noticed that there is some possible rust when i bought the car on one of the metal beams in that area.

      Go to the hardware store and buy a Phillips head sheet metal screw of about the same size (looks like a #6). The added benefit is that it is now a Phillips head screw. If the new screw is not an exact fit, it will rethread the hole.

    Before finalizing designs and layouts, all car engineers should be forced to do repairs 10 times in the blazing heat of summer on a gravel driveway and 10 more times in the freezing cold on the same driveway.
    It's obvious they are trying to discourage the home mechanic from doing his own repairs by making the process as difficult as possible. My evidence for the claim is both the tight quarters, but mostly the fact that a Torx head screw is used. They are counting on the fact that most shade tree mechanics won't have Torx drivers and will be forced to pay the local dealer $50.00, instead of paying $16.84 for the part at Amazon.com (Ordered Thursday evening, arrived Saturday morning). Here is the link to the part.

    Excellent video ! A simple hint for the DIY crowd. Before putting the new cabin filter in, spray the filter surface that's faces the rear of the car with a spray specifically for cabin filters (frigi-fresh is one) to kill any mold or mildew (common in damp/humid areas) or in a pinch you can use lemon scented Lysol, just dont be too heavy handed with either one. Also use a narrow snout (crevice tool) on your vacuum to pull out any debris like leaves that can get in and plug up the new filter before installing.....

    Video is excellent ColJy, Ford's engineering prowess not so much. On my Honda you lower the glove box lid, squeeze two tabs, to remove the cover filter ,remove old filter, install filter, and do the reverse, 5 minutes tops and very easy, no tight spots or screws to lose.

      Jim Dowsey I was saying the same exact thing. Engine and cabin filters in the civic were sooooo much simpler than the engine and cabin ones in the escape.

      Jim Dowsey Wayne’s just insecure and can’t fathom the fact that other cars exist and people drive them. He sees the slightest critical comment against Fords design of the filter as a slam of the entire company. Wayne is a blind fan boy. Don’t be like Wayne.

      That's pretty cheap, my dealer wants $50.00. I would probably let the dealer do it for that price, it's only about twice the cost for the part on Amazon.

      I think we won for biggest ripoff dealer. Ours wants $144 to replace the cabin air filter! Thanks for making this video. We had the shop hold on while I did a quick search and found your video. I already have the T15 Torx bit so I'll buy the filter and I'll do the job myself.

    I just changed mine. My vehicle is a 2017 Lincoln MKC which is the Lincoln version of the Escape. Good luck with this one guys. I could not see the top of the slot for the filter and could not get a hand in there to guide it. I removed the side plate to the right of the glove compartment and then removed the glove box. The side plate just pops off. After that I could see better and could find out where the filter was hanging up while I was trying to install it into the opening. Way too tight with too many things in the way to install the filter in its relaxed state. Hope the Ford engineer that designed this failed his performance review. Took me an hour and a half. I gave up trying to get the filter in after playing with it with the glove box in place. I have changed these before on other vehicles but none that were this difficult. Good luck. You will need it.

      Not to mention that Ford wants you to go to the dealer to get this simple job done. Of course too, they don't tell you how to do this in the useless manual,...see page 112 in that!

  • @TXnine7nine
    @TXnine7nine 6 лет назад +3

    Ford was really stupid when designing their air filters for this vehicle. Engine air filter? socket wrench and an extension bar for the PITA screw in the back right and all this for the cabin air filter? It’s almost as if they want you to give up and take it in to a dealership and pay to have it done. In my 2013 Honda civic it was literally a few tabs to unsnap for the engine compartment and you pull the old one out and put a new one in. Cabin air filter was even simpler. Glove box pops out and it’s literally right there behind another simple snap cover.

      Wayne Adams I literally mentioned it once. You just another insecure Ford fanboy that can’t stand people who drive other vehicles?

    • @TXnine7nine
      @TXnine7nine 6 лет назад +1

      Lookout Cam Oh I have patience. If I didn’t I would have not even attempted to do it myself and just taken it to a shop to have it done but the process for the Escape was beyond reasonableness. They over engineered it to make it as complicated as possible and thus force as many people as possible to shell out money to have it done for them.

    It's interesting that he never really removes the filter. Here's the trick, unplug the two large white plugs from the fusebox. The filter will slide right out, no bending, no squeezing. It will save your knuckles!

  • @michaelgutierrez906
    @michaelgutierrez906 3 года назад

    Don’t forget to release the fuse box. It’s much easier to install the filter

    Which way is the airflow?

    • @heyrod59
      @heyrod59 5 лет назад +2

      You can install the filter in either direction it doesnt matter. Spray a little lemon scented lysol on the filter surface that faces you to kill any mold or mildew that may have accumulated (humid/damp areas) before you put the new one in.

      The factory filter airflow indicator was facing the rear of the car, so I reinstalled it that way as well, no issues.

    Took me like 20 mins of bitching, 1st of all the torx screw is hard to get to if you dont have a small screwdriver like his, I have a small ratchet and there's not enough space to work it, then pulling and re installing the filter....o my.., you have to squeeze in to a crazy shape to get it in and out....thanks Ford..

      Wayne Adams People can drive multiple cars genius. And fans can still point out flaws. Dismissing any and all criticism regardless of merit is a sign of an overzealous fan boy. It is hard to replace. Ford wants you to give up and go in to a dealership and pay to have it replaced. It’s a money grab nothing more.
