    Clarification for Jackson: Dinky is bolt-on, Soloist is neck-thru. Rest of features are interchangeable and more-or-less the same i.e headstock, fret count, bridge style, etc.

    • @Andrew_182
      @Andrew_182 Год назад +12

      Yep, people get confused by the Dinky name, but both the Dinky and the Soloists bodies are 7/8th the size of a standard strat which is where the dinky name comes from but it applies to both the soloist and dinky.

      Bellamy
      Common misconception, but no, both are 7/8th size. Can be confirmed with google or by comparing both side by side or vs a strat. Again, the only real difference between a dinky and a soloist is bolt on vs neck through respectively.

    • @ilovesguitarmucho
      @ilovesguitarmucho Год назад +5

      @@Andrew_182 Exactly. I don’t know if the site says it now, but the Dinky was previously described as 7/8 size because it was being compared directly to a strat, but less traditional. The soloist I don’t recall having that specific description like the Dinky, but that’s cause it wasn’t being directly compared. I think that’s where people get that mix-up cause Dinky said 7/8 but Soloist didn’t, so they assume Dinky is smaller than Soloist.

Bought a Epiphone Les Paul because I needed a E-Standard machine and fell in love with it because all of the reasons I hated it before. Good points! I recently bought a headless strandberg-clone (NK), and love it.
    The points you make do sense, as some models just "end" at the nut without warning. Others are a bit thicker at the top, where you'd expect your headstock to be, and it's comfortable resting my thumb against. One of the points it seems to solve as well, is no need anymore for foam behind the bridge or the nut, as there's just very little string there. But yeah, tuning is fiddly.

    I personally "hate" anything Strat shaped and modern variation (RG, RGA, RGD, Soloists, Dinky, etc.) of it, never got along with them when standing, they just don't sit at the right angle and I can't make them do so, without constantly readjusting.
    Prefer my neck to be at about a 45° angle, probably because I only play in classical position while sitting, which puts the neck at that angle.
    My favourite guitars are those that naturally want to hang like that:

    I merely like 7 string guitars (like my Schecter)... They feel like a solid and reliable jeep when setup correctly.
    Meanwhile, a good 6 string guitar feels like a formula-one racecar/F-16 in comparison. String gauge, action and scale length are built for virtuosity that is somewhat attainable to the blue collar musician. Jeeps are solid, but no landspeed records are gonna be broken.
    Maybe it's me, I have yet to find a 7 string that feels as sleek, slick, comfy and speedy as an old fashioned super-strat (like my Charvel So-Cal).

ESP/E-II are basically perfectly setup from factory and have a more “solid” build that I’ve never felt on any LTD. I never have to adjust the truss on my ESP/E-IIs but I do occasionally on my LTDs for instance. 2x better? Nah but I’d say it’s like 1.4x better. Get a lightly used one and save some cash. Hey mate! 👋😂 Yeah I agree with most of this, I'm the same. As pleasing as it is to buy signature models of your favourite guitar players when you're a kid or just starting out, people need to TRY to put the love of the instrument in general first, over the love of their favourite musician in my honest opinion, because it's only going to hinder progress and potentially cause frustration if they don't feel comfortable playing but can't figure out why, then obviously leading to them giving up. We've all done it though hey!(Dime sigs)🤣.
    Don't feel bad though for not liking Gibson dude, I HATE sitting down playing my Les Paul, it's one of the worst designed bodies out there in terms of balance, I have to literally hold onto it as I play or else it wants to fall off my right leg!

    I had this mate who used to idolise Dimebag in the '90s and into the '00s. He had this fucking awful purple cheapo strat copy, and one day he came into some money, I think inheritance or something and decided to upgrade to his dream guitar.
    He put an order in with Dean to get one of the Dimebag Explorer-esque signature models, us living in the middle of Yorkshire, God-knows what he paid to have one shipped out... But when it turned up? Shitty purple Dean strat copy. I shit you not, same white pickguard, same cheap white pots, same cheap white-tipped selector switch, literally the SAME shade of purple gloss. He'd had this guitar shipped over that took weeks to arrive, paid ten times the price of his old guitar, and as the 2 of them were side-by-side, the only difference was the name on the headstock.
    Worst thing is, I think because of the whole ordeal and rigmarole surrounding ordering the thing, having it shipped out and the prospect of an overseas return and refund... the dude just _owned it_ and changed his tune to "dunno what you're talking about, this IS the one I wanted."
    That's the guitar I'd NEVER buy. The one that doesn't look or play better than a shit-branded strat, yet costs 10x the price.
    So... basically _most_ strats.

    You should google the Jackson Concorde, because it seems like you're misspeaking. Concorde was a bigger shape and it is a prototype that Randy didn't like, because he was a short dude yet frankly the guitar was quite bulky. So Jackson went back to work on his signature guitar and later made the design and shape we've know for decades as the RR.

Oh jesus, it were horrible to play, the neck was narrow and uncomfortable, would slowly creep out of tune with the slightest of string bends and the bridge wasn't the best, reminds me of the tune-o-matic (if that's the right name for 'em) bridges with V-shaped saddles. It’s funny, I have had most those “dad rock” style guitars since I was a teenager. Bought my Flying V when I was 15 in 2003. They’ve been my favorites most of my life.
    The worst neck dive you’ll find of any is the SG style body. The body is way too light and the neck has half the guitars overall mass.
    I’ve started liking 8+ string guitars in the last 5 or so years I’ve also been enjoying Baritone’s and hollow bodies more recently.
    Headless guitars are very very light and easy to play.
    I’ve wanted to try out one of the Solar guitars but have other priorities in rounding out my current collection.
    Still gotta pick up a Variax shurikan, and a tele some day. Been leaning towards a Kiesel headless for my next guitar though.

    LP necks aren't all thick, my 2017 HP has a very thin asymmetrical neck carve, might try to give one a chance as quite a lot of metal was recorded on them. It's also possible to stand while playing, even when recording on your computer... I'm not a V guy but the Gibson is very close to the Jackson if you give one a try.
    I have a RG570 Genesis, JEM V70, RG 8570Z and many others over the years, the RG platform is amazing. Definitely enjoy my M and MH series plus the KH models are the best of the bunch... I owned a USA Dinky signed by Grover in the late 80s, some Dinkys have normal and some reversed, depends on the year.
    What you seem to be missing, and actually knocked the LP on it and gave the Dime a positive is multiple volume controls. Having multiple volume controls allows for quite a bit of versatility when playing live... this is why Randy played one along with his signature Jacksons, this is why Kirk's ESPs have 2 volume controls.
    Planning on getting at least one Solar soon, love Ola! I would encourage you to pick up some guitars with dual volume controls, I think you may find that they can be very beneficial for certain tones when playing live!

Don’t even get me started on those with the Floyd Rose style whammy system: it took me about two weeks (and a few dozen swear words) just to get one to take the high E string! Now, while I like the Flying V style, there’s not enough body for me to get a comfortable position for my strumming arm…plus, it looks dorky on me! 😂

    Hate-floating trems, pickup rings, more then 1 or 2 pots, dot inlays. Not all dot inlays just the huge ones like fender and some ibanez have and most cheap guitars have them.
    Love-direct mount pickups, inline headstock (reverse preferred), no inlays or small offset dot inlays, longer scale guitars. 27 inch scale or longer. But I still need a 25.5 scale guitar for drop c or drop b. But mostly play drop F or drop ea on my 7 and 8 strings.

    I feel the same way you feel about Les Pauls for alot of the same reasons you do. I love the way they look, but I despise the way they feel. From the weight, to the tune-o-matic, to the neck thickness, and the height of the strings from the body. It's a very awkward feeling guitar like playing a slightly smaller jazz archtop, but it's fully solid, so it's heavy as a cinderblock. I really wish someone would make a LP shaped guitar that felt more like a superstrat.
