The fact that this dude plays stuff like Involuntary Doppelganger and STILL struggles with ridiculous riffs from other bands really gives me hope lol
I mean to be fair he probably spends tons of time practicing his own music for tours and stuff. No one is about to learn these riffs in 10 minutes lol
It also helps that Involuntary Doppelgänger isn't all downpicking.
But still, yeah, keep at it! Hell, have you seen the several times Dean's struggled to remember how his own parts go? You can do this
It’s almost as if playing your own music is easier because you wrote it, and played it a hundred times.
Even if someone else's music is technically easier to play it can be harder than playing stuff you've written. Your minds and muscle memory think in different ways

@@patfix It would definitely work alt-picked, and I wish Claire and her gay husband put more effort into it so we could see it. But being robotically downpicked does explain how the riff sounds so dummy-clean in the recording and when he plays it, just didn't know that shit was possible lol

I'm baffled that you can be a member of Archspire and still struggle with other bands riffs. Makes me wanna learn. Gives me hope.
To be fair when you write songs even at a high and precise level there's a level of intuition to it. Learning other people's songs is a whole nother monster especially if they patterns or playstyle is a bit different from what you're used to.
P.S. I don't play any of this stuff myself 😭😭

It's so wild to hear the guitar riffs solo because I could never pick them out and say "oh that's from To The Hellfire" or whatever. There's just so much going on in the song that the individual riff becomes indistinguishable.
I feel you, but I think it's because they're trying to go for a Black Metal-esque wall of sound approach

I have an idea: please put tabs in the video describtion, this way video series from pure entertaining changes also to semi-educational content. I think there are a lot of guitarists, who want to learn a bunch of cool, top tier, tech riffs that move the metal music forward, directly from the musicians, first-handedly.

also some riffs are hard for other and easy for other people, were all different and that kind of shared knowledge is beneficial

Idk if it was your or tobis solo, but at the end of acrid canon the solo made me tear up and I was overcome with emotion just now. I’m not even high or anything but I was looking at the lyrics so I think the way the solo complimented the story just really hit me hard this particular time

I saw them a few years ago, they really rip man!
I LOVE this band, and I've seen them 3 times. Once with Tom, once with CJ, and once with Will. In my opinion, they are not tight at all in a live setting. Granted, these songs are composed in a way where I imagine it would hard for even the greatest of musicians to be able to execute well.
Lorna shore riffs are definitely underestimated. Because in the mix they are blended so well they just flow out.

First, let me just say that the fact that he's down picking that shit is insane. That's crazy levels of skill.
That being said, I'm with Dean on the idea that pure down picking isn't the be-all, end-all. Down picking definitely sounds better in some situations - like the example Claire gave where you can REALLY dig in. It makes it more percussive and gives it more attack. But I feel like when you start getting past a certain speed, you can't give each stroke the power you could when it was slower, and it really just feels like it becomes less efficient alternate picking at that point. IMO.
I agree. When you're alternate picking one string at a time, you really can't tell the difference. It's when you're alternate picking multiple strings that it starts to sound worse.

Claine I have tendinitis in basically every joint, I play every instrument. Drums is my mainstay but I had to lose all this weight and Im actually in compression gloves and wrist braces rn as i type this lol. Stay strong, hopefully my return will be sooner than later but atm I’m dying 😢
