Ben specifically said that it would be of their recent riffs. I'm sure that if he really wanted to, he could pick up some much harder riffs from their discography.
I have been in a pretty bad valley of crippling depression the past three months. And it only existed due to not having enough 4 levels of death metal to watch. Now I'm sh***ing rainbows.
Would love to see Bill from Mastodon! He’s been on Ben Eller’s channel before so I bet he’d be game. Lots of weird ass Mastodon riffs. Also the boys from TAS!
I don't know if you have contacts with one of those bands but an episode with one of the following bands would be crazy. Excellent video as always! Also, it's cool hearing about Dean's speech therapy (and success in therapy) since I'm currently in school studying communication science and speech disorders. My uncle had a stutter and speech therapy helped him greatly. Communication theory and speech science is tyte AF. Glad it was useful in your life!
I'm not a huge fan of Whitechapel, but I randomly got to meet them backstage at some music festival and I have to say they were the some of nicest dudes ever. Also a they had a great sense of humor. Definitely more of a fan after meeting them.
I'm from Maryville Tennessee where the band originated from. Gabe the bassist(if he still is),.....his mom and mom were friends. My mom was a 6-8th special ed teacher and Gabe went to High School next door where she taught at William Blount. Unless I was ill informed. Legit the very first metal band to make it outta Maryville TN.
At 11:35, Ben says that’s its an owl. It’s actually a bird called a Mourning Dove. Their call sounds exactly like that. Just a small bit of information. Love the videos guys!!
This was awesome! I wish that Ben would have included some songs from their first two albums: The Somatic Defilement and This Is Exile. They're my favorite.
@@OlExtraRegularBass I respectfully disagree about this is exile being garbage. I feel like Whitechapel has gotten softer and less brutal over the years. I feel like the anger and suffering behind the first couple of albums are no longer there, or have lessened. I wouldn't be surprised if they played the new stuff on the radio. This saddens me.
@@DamonOfHouseFL I responded to you and said the same thing you're responding to because I didn't read it. They have only gotten steadily worse for me after getting signed. Omg it’s so cool that the lost boy riff is based on an owl. That’s just beautiful. One of my fave Whitechapel songs. I saw them in Des Moines just last month.
It’s Friday night here in New Zealand and I haven’t laughed so hard in ages, those legs man and the owl singing, so pure. Wish you all were here hahaha
I love that this series can go on basically indefinitely. SO much talent out there. :) Also...First fragment...beyond creation...obscura...equipoise...allegaeon...ne ob... kthxbyeeeee
YO, do one with Despised Icon next. Some of their riffs are pretty tricky but they have quite some manageable riffs too, so you can still fill up two thirds of the video with crow bullshit. Loved the video, keep it up.
Excited to watch this! I've been listening to WC since they released This is Exile back in 2008. Will say, haven't listened very heavily on the new stuff, not too big on clean singing.
Hickory Creek is a bit of a depressing song. Only recently has the vocalist, Phil Bozeman, started writing about more personal topics. Mostly about the deaths of his parents and his mother's struggle with mental health and the drug addiction that ending up taking her life.
Claire's reaction is like how i get when watching cat Tik Tocs late at night. Then nobody else thinks it is funny. Ben Savage is going to love this video!

I think he nailed the progression of difficulty. Was expecting to see some stuff from This is Exile though.
I understand why he wanted to pick songs for the new album, but was equally gutted.

yeah, the technical riffs are definitely easier to find on their first 2 albums

You gotta try to get Brian Eschbach from Black Dahlia to do this. His riffage is just nasty.

Bill would be a great guest on this show. Mastodon has so many bizarre yet really sick riffs.

This!
That's a great idea, i can easily see the Bedazzled fingernails riff as a level 3 or even 4 riff
Yea please! They also have a new album coming out this month.
Honestly metal needs more owl riffs. Metal is sorely missing our owly brethren.
Rivers of Nihil understood the lack of owls in metal
Agreed!
Right?! Too many ravens and not enough owls!
Not an owl sound. Mourning dove. He wrote a song about a mourning dove.
This is absolute fucking chaos I love it haha
Ben Savage sounds like a lovely man, I love him.
i wonder if Brian Eschbach would be down to do one of these? fuggin riff master that guy
