  • In this video I show how to replace the diff fluid on a 2004 Nissan 350Z with a VLSD limited slip differential. The correct OEM fluid you need for this is GL-5 80W-90, although in this video I do use 75W90. I had three bottles on hand (3 US QT) but I didn't use all of the fluid since I did not remove the rear diff cover which is what completely drains the diff of all the fluid, only removing the drain plug does allow some of the old fluid to remain in the diff. The torque specs for the drain and fill plug are 30-39 Nm or 23-28 ft-lbs. I hope this video is helpful and thank you for watching. Please Like and Subscribe.

Pretty ballsy move not checking the fill bolt to see if it would at least crack loose lol

When you have a VLSD, the fluid if different for that differential than the non-VLSD on my 2012 G37 RWD. I'm planning on doing this diff. fluid change out today at 82k on the car, not sure it it's been done prior, only had the car 3 months now. I'll be using the 75/90 Pennzoil full synthetic oil. AutoZone states that their STP regular 75/90 gear oil is NOT to be used in the VLSD except to top off, and the manual states synthetic for the VLSD, but not for the reg. diff. I'm assuming synthetic won't actually harm the regular diff like regular might harm the VLSD.

Thanks for that comment man. I’m busy with my normal job but I would like to get more into my RUclips channel if I can. I’ll keep the videos coming.

Do you have to torque it or should arm strength be enough?

I mean I’d torque it if you can since you don’t have to change it as often but I’m sure plenty have just done arm tight and it’s been ok haha.
