I just did a transmission pan, filter, and fluid change on my Mazda 3. Tip - there is a reverse plug on the pan you can remove to drain the fluid before removing the pan, less mess. I used Valvoline MaxLife ATF, around 5 quarts.
For those that want to use a synthetic ATF instead of Mazda MV : Compared to Mazda MV : Motul Multi ATF is just a little too thick, Mobil 1 Synthetic ATF and Eneos Eco ATF are both just a little too thin. (Mobil 1 is also a little too expensive) But they are very very close .. so in fact they all work! I mix 2 liters motul with 1 litre of Eneos, so as to get closer to the original viscosity. (premix them to prevent foaming) Thick ATF is better for smoother shifting. Thin ATF is better for performance These three have almost the same viscosity when cold. Motul retains a little more viscosity when hot. The other two can not .. MV curve remains in the middle..
Seen you issues with your shifting. Check your Transmission speed control sensor. 100% Its going to be the TCM. . I bought a brand new from the stealership $700 there not cheap.
Yeah the stealershio was going to cost me more than that I think. I even looked at several junkyards and most of all the “computer” stuff out of these cars already taken out.
Not an expert here , have read that automatic transmissions that have not had the fluid changed for a long time and likely worn internal parts get used to a certain viscosity and changing it too much in one direction can lead to shifting problems or even the end of a transmission prematurely. Some guys only drain about 2 quarts through the drain plug and then replace that much to the full level - less of a shock to the internals. One old mechanic said replace the tranny fluid and filter every 2nd or 3rd oil change and not stomping on the accelerator will make the tranny last longer .
@@Manzilla56 An automatic transmission depends more on the tranny fluid to actually work than a manual .... but they both need oil , just different viscosities
I just recently changed my tcm but I did not put it back where it goes under the battery box I zip tied it to the back of the fire wall. Because that’s why they go out because of overheating and then it fry’s the tcm.
I have a 2005 mazda 3 question does these models have tcm I've looked even removed the battery and tray looked under can't see it might have to look in deeper under the area it's suppost to be located at
I’m currently on my transmission pan and lol all 9 bolts are out but that one bolt at the top is striped and rounded my pan was completely rusted out badly. Still trying get the one screw off
Same problem with my 2004 mazda 3 AT light comes on then jerks changing gears. Don't think it my tcm because it's not located on the Trans.. did you figure out your problem with it?

That loose part that plugs (loosely) into your filter is a heat sensor.
Sweet. Thank you for that info. Love learning how to fix cars. I want to be better at it.
top tip: use silicone grease on a rubber gasket. that way it stays put and you can have your holes line up
Thanks for the tip.
Do you have any recommendations in regards to silicone grease?
@@subarux4054 I don’t have any recommendation. Hopefully Dan does.
@@subarux4054 far as brands go. I use SIL GLYDE you can find it almost anywhere. Walmart, auto zone, etc
@@subarux4054 I use gasket sealer myself, just a few dots here and there to press your gasket into and hold it in place.

Do you think that only applies to Automatics and not Manual transmissions?

I've found if you pry the pan from a corner it comes loose a little easier.
Awesome thanks
Plus it's a little less likely to bend at the corner
Change oil .after need good obd2 scanner
Did changing the fluid fix your shifting issue
No not really but it was time to change it out anyways. So I did.

Hello dear friend, can I ask why you don't change the gearbox oil with the device?
The gearbox is the transmission.
Did you have to change the transmission fluid and tcm for the AT light to come off?
Well, the only time the AT light came on is when the car would jerk when changing gears. Other than that....it was fine and didn’t come on constantly.
Witch Synthetic fuild should I get ?

Anyone have a link where I can buy the Transmission Kit also I'm trying to go synthetic. 2006 Mazda 2.3 4 door hatchback..
Sorry I don’t. Hopefully other people who commented can help.
Hello. How much new transmission oil had to be poured?
I don’t quite remember but I think I used 4 quarts. I did check to see the level to not over fill.

That's a transmission filter sensor
What engine size you have is it the same transmission for all Mazda 3 from 2004 to 2009
I have 2.3L

does this same issue w the tcm still happen with the 2011 mazda 3?
I can’t answer that since I don’t know the specs with 2011

best way to remove the pan is to use a dead blow hammer and hit it from the side
Awesome. Thank you.
