Over 360 hours (Conservative estimate) of non-stop work, roughly over a year of work.. And untolds amount of research.. This is an exhaustive break down of the Dominion War comprising 60+ videos (averaging 10 minutes a piece). It looks at every aspect of the Dominion War, sometimes breaking down the episodes beat by beat. Thank you to everyone who made this project possible.
And Garak was one of the most well written characters in any Trek, in my opinion. I love every scene he's in, and wish they would have used him even more than they did. Hell, I'd go for a Garak spinoff series.
Garak was great but also wasted potential. He had so much buildup as an extremely dangerous man with his own agenda who couldn’t be trusted for a second. Yet in the end, he just turns out to be another good guy just with some Cardassian edge.
The Dominion began manipulating the entire alpha quadrant into war the second the wormhole opened. It wasn't just Starfleet violating Dominion space, it was ships from all over the quadrant going through the wormhole.
I initially didn’t want to watch this because it’s seven hours long. But then I figured that I would bite the bullet and watch it. It’s way better crafted than what I figured long form content would be. To be fair, it was crafted over more than a year of hard work and dedication. Excellent video, and nice work!
It's honestly the work i'm most proud of to date - relating to the channel atleast. If you can believe it.. This was my second try. I have another Dominion War (About 7 hours as well) that I did originally. I set out to do better then I had, and I'm .. quite proud.. of this one.
I think the federation avoided breaking the Treaty of Algernon on a technicality alone. Since Rom designed the cloaked self-replicating mine field and Major Kira ultimately oversaw it’s implementation the argument could be made that this was an action of the Bajoran government, specifically the Bajoran militia.
I think it may have also been a choice of the Romulans to not bring it up at all. As long as the Dominion was fighting the Federation, Romulus was safe. As long as the Federation can hold their ground without gaining a decisive advantage, both major threats to Romulus are busy not looking at them. Meanwhile, they can build up forces and deal with whoever the winner is.
also, by this point, they know the feds have access to cloaks from more then a few sources, the ferangi could supply them ffs... but, the point is, at that point, its less and less meaningful to try and enforce that aspect of the treaty, more so since they supplied one to the feds themselves... that also is part of why i think they did it, feds could have gotten one another way or used the phase cloak, the roms providing one and somebody to help operate it, just helped ensure they saved face and helped ensure some level of success was more likely, i think they are happy to ignore cloaks for a few reasons though... almost zero chance they gave their best device... their best devices are likely generations advanced from what was provided... so... a possible enemy using an out dated design you know the flaws of... could help ensure you have an easier time detecting or disabling their cloaks...
obviously by the time of this show the federation obviously could put together cloaked ships very quickly if they wanted.. the only thing stopping them is a piece of paper.. and the advantage of calling them out on a treaty violation at this time is silly. it is kinda like Germany, Canada and a number of other countries.. they could put together a nuclear weapons arsenal in matter of weeks if they wanted to.. it isn't worth it for them and they can always do it anytime they want.
@@Flamingcloud083 Those countries couldn't create nuclear weapons within weeks. Years is a better short term estimate. You underestimate the technical hurdles and rarity of source materials. Plutonium is HARD to refine if you don't have nuclear infrastructure.
@@armyofninjas9055 those countries all have or had nuclear infrastructures.. they would be idiotic to not refine a bit of material for emergencies... Making ICBMs is the vastly bigger challenge because even if you had all the tech ready to go(1950/60s missile tech shouldn't be hard lol)you still don't necessarily have the the right production facilities.. but a bomb that can be dropped from a bomber? Should be ready in a few days unless they really are relying on America 100% and made no backup plans at all (..Japan probably needs these backup plans more than Canada)
I'm genuinely so grateful you have posted all this content on star trek:ds9. I have watched ds9 so many times that it's nice to see content based off of it so prevalent on your channel. Thank you!
A seven hour fifteen minute long video analyzing in detail the interactions between the Dominion and the alhpa quadrant? You, sir, have earned my afternoon.
I feel like it is an extension of the notion that the Founders wanted it to be known that the Federation was nothing to them and there was nothing that the Fed could do to resist them (at the time).
Just goes to show the changeling infiltration was either on the day of the discovery of the wormhole or the first sighting of the federation ships. Get the database and they learn about the powers. However it is theorised that the Enterprise b fell in the wormhole and was lost in the gamma quadrant. It is believed the were killed by the quickening by the Vorta as a message to others not to interfere with the Dominion!
Lore, I really mean that. I booted up some Star Trek Online after some time away and was in a Star Trek mood. I found this video, said fuck it and put it on. I spent the entire day watching it.
Great video. The Golden Age of the Federation is a concept that had not occurred to me before. It explains why I did not initially warm up to TNG when it came out. Having grown up with TOS, I was used to watching Kirk and Spock kick butt every week to survive. But Picard and crew seemed unwilling to engage in conflict even when it was appropriate. It made for less exciting if more nuanced television.
@LoreReloaded: You're major argument is: The Federation should have used Starfleet as a military force and use it as the US is using it's armed forces today. The thing is, the Federation isn't the US. Both "nations" may have been founded on similar grounds (war with an other major power), but ultimately have different political philosophies. The Federation was founded with the goal in mind the a PEACEFULL coexistence with other species is possible and to explore the universe together. Starfleet is therefore an organization for exploration and only secondary a defence force of the Federation. Each member of the federation is responsible for it's own defence either by it's own military or it can ask Starfleet to organize it for them. In the 23rd century the vulcans wouldn't contribute to Starfleet because of there pacifistic nature, so Starfleet decided to built them the USS Intrepid (Constitution Class) and removed all it's weaponry to ensure Vulcan would contribute to Starfleet. The error in your analysis is, that you use our way of thinking to compare it to the futuristic ideals of Starfleet and the UFP. But that is not how it works. You have to put yourself in the shoes of someone from the 24th century and use their way of thinking. environment
That was absolutely incredible! I listened to the entire thing today and I could’ve kept on listening. In one way you tore apart things I really enjoyed but in another you just gave me more to think about in another perspective. Well done!
Whle I agree with your theory that the Founders implemented a plan to give Starfleet a cloaking device, it's not out the realms of possibility that the Romulans willingly gave the device themselves. It's not out of character for them to allow others to do their bidding. Picard called it a chess game, when dealing with the Romulans and I fully believe that they were willing to outweigh the cost of a single cloaking device against any information Starfleet attained on the Dominion. Sure, Starfleet could've used it to build cloaks for every ship, but the Romulans knew that Starfleet's pacifistic nature would ensure that the Treaty of Algeron would be maintained. Picard was the proof, willingly giving up the tactical advantage of the phase cloak.
Lore this is Mike Shriver 2023. I just want to say I can listen to your series on the Dominion war which is over 7 hours of material all the way from lake City Michigan. All the way down to Medina Ohio and I really think that's great. I don't have to switch stations. I don't have to go through a playlist. I just put my headphones on and listen to you all the way down. I really appreciate that
I'm 35min in and already loving this deep dive into the Dominion War. Thank you for this high quality and high quantity content, I'm looking forward to the rest of the video! 🤩
I'm a fan of Mauler, so I'm no stranger to lengthy video essays. But hot damn, this ranks up there with some of his longest work. Not that I'm complaining, mind you. Anything to take my mind off all the chaos going on right now. And I always appreciate anything to do with The Dominion, and by extension, DS9. Praise be to the Longmen. Also, I really hope CBS doesn't come after this. This looks very well done.
Ya know this started off more as an essay about the Dominion War, but then slowly turned into a critique on plot devices, writing decisions, and dare I say it nitpicking. It’s still interesting, and I applaud the work you’ve put into this. It’s just changed from what it was about in the first two hours vs. the second two hours.
I'm always hesitant to jump into a new show with like 30 episodes over 4 seasons, but without any thought at all I'll jump back into DS9 and watch all 170 or so episodes.
Here. What if Q introduced the Federation to the Borg to prepare them for the Dominion? Not just the Borg. I mean, really 1 cube just couldn’t take down the powers of the Federation AND Klingons. Plus any other Alpha Quadrant races that join in like with what happens in the Dominion War. Whereas the Dominion were close to conquering 2 quadrants with a portion of their fleet and at the time, a 3rd rate Cardassian Empire. I think you’re definitely right in pointing out Federation Hubris. They assumed everyone can be won over with speeches and smiles. Their ships can be on par with Alpha Quadrant so they felt untouchable. If someone wanted to bloody their nose, they’d just fly away unless cornered. Plus again - their Alliance with the Klingons was too much of a threat. So when they met the Dominion, when they truly first met the Dominion, they assumed it would play out like another day in the office. If the Enterprise can save them against the Borg, a more powerful Odyssey should surely warn the Dominion off enough. In short - Sisko summed it up perfectly that Earth was the problem. The Universe isn’t a safe paradise.
I'll do you one better. The entire alpha quadrant combined would have lost if the 2,600 dominion war ships came out the apature of the wormhole. What if Q cause all of Wolf 359 just so The Sisko would be there to ask the worm hole aliens to do what he did.
@@Nephron89 What if Q told the Worm hole aliens to stop the Dominion vessels when the Sisko asked them or He would turn them in to piglets on a cardassian world
I kinda liked star trek before it went all star wars with far away powers that can wipe out planets and civilizations. How about some star trek when they wore collarless shirts with collared piping in the black shoulder tops of the uniform... Isnt star trek supposed to be what we could become and not just an america in space?
@@Nephron89 The Feds and the Klingons likely both had fleets of 10,000 ships each altogether, but spread across so much space it would take them years to get across their own territory (8k light years for the feds) - so no, they wouldnt curb-stomp "all of alpha quadrant" with 5-6 tousand ships... but they would win locally, sure, and prevent the other powers from massing enough ships *locally* to stop them, so *over the years*, they would win :p -) Not to mention tens of thousands of ships they could likely muster just from the gamma quadrant over that time, that is.
FUN FACT in an offhand comment by WEYOUN he said : " THE 150 JEM'HADAR SHIPS WE SENT INTO GORN SPACE NEVER CAME BACK " my response : " THE GORN FOUND OUT THE JEM´HADAR WERE TASTY "
if the federation wasn't so stupid they would do the same. lure the borg into the klingon homeworld, then cardassia prime and finally the rogue planet of the changelings. this would make the borg stronger, but you just need to send out the geometric shape that picard was going to send implanted in hugh and the borg collapse.
@@basteagui Actually, why didn’t the Federation attempt to lure the Borg into sending a couple vessels to the Alpha Quadrant? We’ve already seen that even against massive warships, a Borg scout ship is capable of blitzing it like it’s nothing and continuing on ahead. That’d greatly hurt the Dominion if they engaged the Borg in combat, and would give the Federation, mainly Starfleet and it’s allies during the war, a long breather for them to recuperate, especially due to the Borg's inherent nature of assimilating other races. Was the Borg now full of self thinking Borg after Hugh and his ship of Borg reached the home world, turning the entire Borg collective into a rational people? So it just wasn’t possible? Like why not attempt to get the Borg as an ally if that was the case?
@@decimation9780 i'll give the federation the benefit of the doubt and assume they didn't want to make the borg any more powerful by giving them changeling traits. that's all i can think of. the borg wouldn't really benefit at all from assimilating the homeworld of most of those species nor their tech, which is inferior to borg tech. only changeling organic shapeshifting would be useful to them. but would it work with so many synthetic parts?
@@basteagui Hmmm, fair, though I wouldn’t call Dominion tech too inferior. Those weapons can do devastating damage because they just straight up bypass shields.
@@decimation9780 i dont recall the jem hadar shooting through shields in ds9. in fact i recall the defiant taking some shots and one of the crew of the defiant said the shields were dropping.
RUclips algorithm knew of my love for long-form/compilation lore and retrospective videos to fall asleep to. This one should keep me going for a while :)
One thing I will note about the Founders is that they were even more arrogant that the Romulans. That is probably why the Changeling impersonating O'Brian went to talk to Sisko. He was bragging about their accomplishments.
This was brilliant, I've just been rewatching DS9 and I'd forgotten how great it was, it's got everything action, thoughtfulness, sadness and heart, great characters, well written stories, and actually something I never realised before which is a lot of laughs like the baseball episode amongst others, but also jokes peppered throughout just in the right places to to keep the levity. Anyway keep up with the good work really enjoyed this 😁
"Had the Federation become so soft?" Are you kidding? The Galaxy Class starship in the TNG era is basically a glorified cruise-liner. Look at the MASSIVE differences between it and the Constitution Class of the TOS era. The Connie is a prime example of militaristic functionality over aesthetics. The ships of this era are simplistic almost to a fault. Both inside and out. Few windows, flat matte paint with very few outer frills, even the ship name and registry is in flat block lettering. The Connie is crafted entirely of easily exchangeable modular parts, again with no unnecessary curves or added frills.
The connie was designed and built when the Federation was undergoing a major expansion to the point where it could handle most threats it would come across. The connie wasnt a crusier ship like the galaxy, it was a warship, armed to the teeth. The Alpha quadrant was like the wild west in the 23rd century. I like Star Trek Enterrpise to and how they deigned the NX-01 to appear crude and mechanical like a naval submarine with little recreation facilities and windows only in afew rooms. Enterprise also stayed true to the wild west doctrine that TOS had, especially after the Xindi crisis, with Archer reccomending to Star Fleet that all Earth ships be equipped with the most adavanced weapons and up to date defensive systems they could bring to bear and manned with an entire squadron or MACOs. I think in the lore, it suggests that Archer might have pushed the Federation to focus more on defense above exploration, as the Enterprise in TOS was the first ship to travel beyond the distance explored by any of the races of the Federation.
They showed that modularity in “Where No Man Has Gone Before” when the Enterprise crew simply unplugged modules from a commercial mining outpost and plugging them in, where they begin functioning immediately aboard the Enterprise.
While I'm not a big fan of star trek in general. I love the what you are doing in explaining the history and perhaps your reasoning behind these episodes. I'm liking it a lot.
This morning I wanted to watch a video before starting to learn. Thank you for giving this great content for procrastinating and letting me keep my plan of only one video
Thank you for the commentary on these star trek shows I love. The super long videos are like a short audio book. Don't get me wrong I watch a lot of it but your script or rambling keeps my interest and furthers my star trek lore knowledge! Thanks
This poped up on my feed and I'm glad it did, very much enjoyed listening to your analysis, different points of view and deep dives into thr episodes. Just going though TNT, DS9 is next, can't wait. Long time Trekkie from Czechia 🖖
I love your Star Trek video, thanks for this compilation. Kudos for your dedication. I hope you are able to monetize this to recoup some of the resources you obviously use for this video.
1:18:00 if I had to guess, the reason the Klingon's aren't just beaming torpedoes on board or going straight for the Cardassian council is because their primary objective isn't to destroy DS9, but to capture it. Think about it, that is a space station of immense strategic importance and if you're the Changeling infiltrator, it's better to capture it than just to destroy it, though you win either way. Also, if you're the infiltrator, you want both sides to suffer as much damage as possible. He wants the Klingon's to win ideally but he doesn't want them to win easily.
In my opinion changling O'Brien told sisko that there was only 4 changlings on earth as an intimidation tactic as only 4 changelings was able to wreak so much havoc, now just imagine how much more damage they could inflict if they had sent even more
Also to show that this human beings “paradise” isn’t so stable, and its very easy to bring out our worst traits and paranoia. A body blow to our egos and self-perception!
Okay I have now finished this leviathan video. Your taste of humour clearly includes the odd moment I detest and I think we see the politics of the federation and star fleet a littler differently but otherwise I am glad I listened to this. Thank you for your time and effort.
Well done. Masterfully edited. I commend even the effort to make this project happen, and the fact that it came off so well-composed is a credit to the very reason you do this. My take on Starfleet’s early wartime ineptitude is that it mirrors Kirk’s kick in the pants in STTWOK; they’ve done nothing.. except get caught with their breeches down. They were a closeted warrior culture that had forgotten how the game was played until it took a heavy personal toll - and only then did they realize how badly they’d been hurt. My dad was an operative in an intelligence agency, so I’ve always had a very soft spot for entities like Section 31. I wouldn’t mind seeing as much new material on them as you feel like producing. Since the time of TNG, I’ve had various ideas for stories centered around the Black Ops crew of a Defiant-like vessel (though of infinitely more suspect technological origin), in a “detached duty” storyline similar to what I would later find in Voyager. So given your treatment of S31 in this series, I’ve been wondering if you had any ideas for extended universe fan fiction. And as a divorced single dad, I commend the quality and depth of all your content. It can be tough to do anything creative, let alone of quality, with so much weight on the heart and mind. You manage to do good work, under far less than ideal circumstances, and you’re not alone.
this is a masterpiece. Lifelong trek fan here I had no friends as a kid so the next generation cast were my friends. even though they had never met me .I love how heated you get and I can feel the sarcasm while your voice rises as you as you speak out against some of the ridiculous rule of the federation! Thank you so Much for this
When I decided to get interested in Star Trek in 2019, a friend I made at the gym, who was a trekkie, actually told me that TNG was okay but a step down and not as exciting as the the original and DS9. I was shocked because most reviews called TNG the best one but after listening to this, it makes a lot of sense.
From the beginning they had been attacking the Dominons’ ability to make war. When the Federation mines the warmhole the Federation fleet attacked the Dominon ship yards. Later the Federation attacks, the cloning centers (they even ended the Wayun line of clones) and the white creation centers. This was why the founder’s side felt, the wormhole was so important. They point that out that they had lost so much it was untenable at the third battle of DS9. The dominion was were playing for time to open the Warmhole. Once the Dominion lost DS9, then lost the cardasians loyalty things were in fact untenable. At the battle of Cardasia, the founders faced 4 fleets - two fleets expert at standard warfare and a further two cloak capable war fleets. To face this the dominion only had one crippled dominion/breen fleet which had just had been mauled and the defense grid. This was impossible to win because they lack combat units (which was the federations tactic to begin with). Effectively the war ended with a lack of supply for the Founders and no where left to go. The founder fleet technically could have fled to Breen space but 1) the Founders are going to be dying that entire time and 2) considering what happened to Cardassia I imagine the Breen were against that idea. And he series was in it’s year 7 time to wrap it up so Voyager would be focused on.
I think the turning point that setup up the series finale was when the female Founder just arbitrarily decided to pull back all ships to Cardassian for apparently no reason.... It is a sound strategy if you are losing and want to consolidate all remaining troops for a final stand ala Babylon 5 Battle of the Line, but it was implied the Doninion was winning the war and replenishing their battle losses quite fast, plus they had retaken the Chin Toka system which was the only Alliance foothold in Dominion controllled space, which was a major victory for them. Even if one argues that tje Founder wanted one final cataclysmic battle to crush the Alliance, it amounts to a plot contrivance for the reason mentioned above - the Dominion suffered some setbacks but was still winning the war and eventually, attrition would have destroyed the Alliance.
Ultimately the Founders' total control over the Dominion is what led to their loss. Several times the Founders forced the Dominion troops into tactically bad situations due to their ulterior motives or whims, whether it's repeatedly sparing Odo or diverting forces to commit genocide on Cardassia Prime mid-battle. It especially got bad when they suffered from the disease, they got impatient as a result and started making greater strategic errors, such as their treatment of the Cardassians as allies.
Most likely the reason Starfleet didn't "free" the Vorta and Jem'hadar is because while they were enslaved, by this point, they've become part of the Dominion in such a way that forcing the Founders to give up control over them would be violating the Prime Directive. On top of that, I believe nearly all the Vorta and Jem'hadar would choose to freely rejoin the Founders anyway since they've literally been hardwired to obey and please the Founders for millennium and reversing this would not only be impossible but also a violation of their freedom, privacy, and sovereignty as people. Now if they had set up an offer to do it willingly, that's a different matter.
it specifically said in deep space nine that the Romulans loaned the cloak to Starfleet and the rules were that they were not allowed to use it in the alpha quadrant and that they were to share all intelligence they got on the dominion with the Romulans. This is a perfectly understandable and justifiable explanation, especially considering that the Romulans like to have their hands off as much as possible.
the changelings believe and stated a few times that the solids need their guidance, this is one reason they always talk of what is need to be done. even if its to the enemy
The analysis in this super cut is nothing short of phenomenal. You’ve played an absolute blinder with this and added so much incredible depth to what was, up until this, quite a vaguely touched on subject. I absolutely commend you for this sir.
I've been enjoying this in small parts for the last few weeks. This has been an absolutely fantastic breakdown of the conflict and the politics of the era.
Greetings wise lore master! I love these breakdowns and your amazing channel! I'm a huge Trek fan so I've been really enjoying this series! On a slightly random note I absolutely adore Gul Dukat (too much information probably lol, but yeah, god I really do love/desire that man!). You must have put sooo much work into this by the way so congratulations and thank you for making this comprehensive breakdown it is absolutely superb and a joy to listen to as always! Thank you!
If you had the budget to do this project as a documentary in universe, with a live actors commenting on various parts, this project would have been beautiful.
This is brilliant and given your objective insights I wish you were teaching at an American war college. Regardless of whether you are right, left, or center (and I really don't care which) your profound and objective observations would aid United States foreign policy and armed forces strategies tremendously.
Take THAT STD! That’s how we do action, battleTrek with character building, nuanced plots and performances. Lifelong trek fans know that wartime’s have always been a part of Trek, as well as the exploration and discovery and ethics, morality themes TOS clearly indicated prior And potential Trekverse war, from Captain Garths Axanar to the Organian Treaty, and 100 years prior to TOS with the Romulan War, many other examples. War, battles and exploratory peacetime’s have always ebbed and flowed in the classic, prime trekverse
I've really been listening to ur voice for little under 6hrs non-stop today ._. As a newbie to the star trek franchise ur complete history videos are really interesting !!
6:17:00. Why didn't the Breen use the energy damper when they attacked Earth? Because that would have been incredibly stupid. The Breen expected 100% losses in that attack. After all, it was just a raid. Why would you include your newest, most devastating weapon in a force that will all die? That would just hand the weapon to your enemy.
While I do not agree with your opening and fail to agre with your concept of well most things Star Trek/Star Fleet I congratulate you on getting this done. This was a great work of art and even if I completely disagree with many of your views I appreciate the story craft.
A great video summarizing the Dominion War. Good job. I love your take on Star Fleet and the Federation. Willing to do whatever it takes to win a war that actually threatens their existence. I want to discuss The Valiant episode and Pale Moonlight. I served in the military for several years as an enlisted member (that means not an officer), after which I went through officer training. I had a serious injury that caused me to be medically discharged. Also, several years of my career took place during various conflicts to include the first gulf war in 1990 - 1991, Operation Provide Hope, Comfort, and many others. I am also a hobby level military historian. Having “rules of war”, ethics of combat, sounds great and actually makes us feel better about ourselves. But when it comes down to survival or extinction, most people, nearly 100% choose survival... at all cost. Also, active participation in military battles affects the mind in ways you don’t think possible. We like to tell ourselves that we are somehow above behaving terribly in combat conditions. In fact most people would literally lose their minds in any sort of lengthy combat situation, especially without proper training, which is what the military provides. But nations, no matter how honorable they imagine themselves, are not above behaving terribly during war, especially when their survival is at stake. So when the writers of DS9 explore those dark themes of just how bad war is, and it’s horrible affects on people, I loved it! Finally, Gene Roddenberry’s “evolved” human conscience or ethic is shown to be laughable when the rubber meets the road. So this evolved ethic truly isn’t evolution. It is just a byproduct of invention and the bountiful blessings as a result of such discoveries. And for some reason humanity embraces communism, which historically has only ever failed miserably. But when resources are truly plentiful, hunger is no longer a thing, and disease is mostly vanquished. Life spans are greatly increased and everyone has whatever they could want. Actually, that is a recipe for disaster. Once a few generations have existed in such an environment, they don’t respond well to circumstances that threaten that lifestyle/existence. Those people are more likely to either give up easily, or they will be willing to break all moral codes in order to retain what they have. And honestly, most people are in that second category. Some are willing to self sacrifice in order to uphold certain ideals, but when it comes down to it, war is truly hell. And star fleet’s behavior in DS9 is an attempt to show how real people (not Roddenberry humans) respond to extreme stress and hardship. That’s why it is my favorite trek series. I will say though, that Picard’s portrayal of the Federation, xenophobic and racist, is an awful portrayal of the Federation. How can a huge interstellar Federation of races from all over the galaxy suddenly, and hilariously be xenophobic and racist? In response to androids doing some bad things on Mars. It is too obvious that the writers wanted to preach about their opinions on current events using that show as their platform! It is pathetic. I don’t always agree with Star Trek’s morality/ethics messages, but it was fun to watch because the moral stuff could usually be universally agreed on. Sometimes they tried pushing ethics that aren’t good, but we’re usually tasteful about it and didn’t call the audience stupid for disagreeing.
Thesecare straw men arguments I don't see what one thing has to do with the other. 1st I'm assuming they embraced socialism because they live in a post scarcity world where anything can be replicated. It's not like capitalism is natural it's just that when tempered with regulation and a social safety net, capitalism is the best we've done on a large scale in last 12,000yrs. Hunter gatherers live as essentially cooperative anarchists and we lived that way for the first 150,000yrs til the rise of agriculture 12,000yrs ago. The structure of a civilization isalmost always dictated by food acquisition method, hunter gatherers have no surplus food nor put labor intoland use and so have no land ownership, no stratification and no inheritance or need for workers (therefore no reason to control womens sexuality), plus you can't control foragers you'd need almost as many controllers. Well for similar reasons, if everything ie food housing luxury goods can be made by touching a button, it makes capitalism mostly obsolete though there is still the question of land use. 2nd, i don't see how fighting for your existence is at odds with a Rodenberry evolved human. The point of the evolved human is they manage to have a society without these problems, not that they are pacifist. Kirk and Spock fought and had weapons. When you introduce externalities like an alien species trying to genocide them of course theyre going to resist, I don't think any species wouldn't, how is that evolved to go extinct it's literally the opposite. It doesn't make them the same level as us, they are still evolved, because they only resort to it when their existence is threatened. Honestly seems like you didn't watch the video or it went over your head if that's what you got from it.

The Dominion began manipulating the entire alpha quadrant into war the second the wormhole opened. It wasn't just Starfleet violating Dominion space, it was ships from all over the quadrant going through the wormhole.
Case in point, the Karemma.
@@LoreReloaded just finally watched this, and well done sir.

There is no such thing as "human nature".
That scene with the Jem Hadar walking through the force field was great, really set the tone.
This is the first time I have ever watched something that was 7 hours long, and wanted more.
Lore, I really mean that. I booted up some Star Trek Online after some time away and was in a Star Trek mood. I found this video, said fuck it and put it on. I spent the entire day watching it.
3:35:07 "He's a little known character you'll never see again so don't worry about him." 🤣 I love it
Great video.
Were we watching the same series? Because Picard and Ent-D were ready to throw down AND use diplomacy just as much as Kirk.
Holy cow, this is probably the most comprehensive trek documentary I’ve ever watched. Very well done.
This is hands down one of the best Star Trek videos on RUclips EVER!!!

Dear god the effort it took to put this together is mind blowing. Thank you for your hard work!

@@Nephron89 What if Q told the Worm hole aliens to stop the Dominion vessels when the Sisko asked them or He would turn them in to piglets on a cardassian world
How commander Sisko once said

The Romulans are great believers in "let's you and him fight".
if the federation wasn't so stupid they would do the same.
lure the borg into the klingon homeworld, then cardassia prime and finally the rogue planet of the changelings.
this would make the borg stronger, but you just need to send out the geometric shape that picard was going to send implanted in hugh and the borg collapse.

"Had the Federation become so soft?"
Are you kidding?
This is so impressive! Great work and amazing job!!! I am so excited to watch all of your other vids!

You my friend...you... ARE A LIVING LEGEND!!!

TNG is a classic but for me personally, I prefer the more realistic and gritty DS9. TOS is just too...60s/70s for my taste.

Ending of the Dominion war seemed Suddenly hurried to me.
I think they wanted to wrap it up before the series ended.
@@dragonchr15 They were anticipating eternal supplies from an entire Quadran. Then they learned relief was not coming.
Man! Great job - So many interesting points of view - you changed how I watch Star Trek😎👍🤘
The Prime Directive only applies to civilizations that haven't developed warp technology yet so it has absolutely nothing to do with this
it specifically said in deep space nine that the Romulans loaned the cloak to Starfleet and the rules were that they were not allowed to use it in the alpha quadrant and that they were to share all intelligence they got on the dominion with the Romulans. This is a perfectly understandable and justifiable explanation, especially considering that the Romulans like to have their hands off as much as possible.
Klingons can cloak their ships, so in theory long range sensors would not pick up the ships coming in. Reference about 4:30
I love your longer compilations. Switch on and relax
the changelings believe and stated a few times that the solids need their guidance, this is one reason they always talk of what is need to be done. even if its to the enemy
