Of these suggestions only the turtleneck is appropriate with sport coat or blazer. T-shirts, tank top, polo shirt, cuban collar have no neck covering or a flimsy collar and are meant to be worn on their own or with a sweater or casual jacket (Not suit jacket, sport coat or blazer).

It’s up to us to bring it back! I picked up some pastel coloured t shirts last year, I already have light chinos, linen blazers & loafers. Now all I need is the balls to wear the outfit! Sunny Miami is one thing but I live near rainy Manchester in the Uk.

Well Richard Anderson of saville row did Miami 1983 about year ago. Fabulous stuff. I agree looked Fabulous particularly the later part of Miami vice . U can always ware elements of the show loafers exc. And the suits just more contemporary. Just don't get skinny fit they look auful anytime and they are on the way out.

"Whenever you're wearing a polo with a jacket or a suit, make sure it's a crisp polo shirt with a strong collar." BLESS you for this. 😆👏Honestly, I feel polos with a strong collar are best even without a suit. Though, for myself, I will fight you on the tank tops with a suit. It's just tasteless, tank tops should be avoided at all costs, they are unflattering even as an undergarment. The moment you remove your suit-jacket or shirt your arms will look so much skinnier than they would with a T-shirt that, without being plastered on, nicely hugs your bicep. Thanks for another good video and cheers to your style.

The turtle neck is a great alternative to a collared shirt in a casual setting with a sports coat or blazer. Maybe not the right look with a suit though. A fresh crisp polo can also work in a casual setting. Underwear like a tank top or T-shirt is a dud, low brow look. A linen shirt, silk, or rayon shirt with an open or cuban collar works well in a club or hot environment. Be careful with tropical themed shirts. Some can be corny or downright ugly. Others can be classy and sophisticated.
    Cheers

Excellent! 👏👏👏 As a lady I do wear a t-shirt with a blazer. But I dress it up with jewelry.
Also, I love a turtleneck in winter, however it’s hard to find good natural fabric turtlenecks. I had to shop in the men’s sections at Banana Republic. I just get it in a smaller size.

  • @SimonChambers

Thanks for this video. I often wear a turtleneck under tailoring, and sometimes a polo, although I want to be careful that the collar looks right. I've occasionally worn a t-shirt, but the look isn't really for me. Most of the time I wear a dress shirt or OCBD, either with or without a tie.
Also, thanks for the shopping cheat sheet. A good compilation of some of the most important information to keep in mind while shopping. One more thing you might want to add would be to look at how the clothes are made- are they ethically sourced, are they as sustainable as they can be? Many fast fashion and other brands use sweat shops, squeeze their suppliers, don't enforce safety standards, etc. Finding brands that make sure people are paid a living wage and are treated well, as well as that are doing all they can to limit the impact on the environment, is a key thing for a gentleman when shopping.
You might also add a couple of questions like "do I need this?" to get away from impulse purchases, or "how many times do I see myself wearing this" to help get at cost per wear...

    1. turtleneck (but that's more of a 70's look. Which is why I wore it in the 70s).
    2. polo shirt (but only with a sports jacket or blazer)
    3. Cuban collar - I don't think I would wear this myself, but I can see how it could work with summer suit or sports jacket
    4. t-shirt - no, but a quality crew neck shirt could work instead
    5. tank top - NEVER, save it for the beach, mowing the lawn, or daytime drinking with no AC

I personally love turtlenecks with my fall winter suits and sport coats. The buttonless knit polo is most elegant in spring/summer. In hot weather A crisp t shirt with minimal sneakers works well in linen and cotton suits. I will try the camp collar, but tucked inside jacket lapel. Save the wifebeater for Hollywood.

  • @urbansoulsteve
    @urbansoulsteve 4 месяца назад

For my taste, Turtlenecks look best under a Blazer, I wear it often myself and women like that outfit on a men . Poloshirts also look nice, but I only wear this when the temperature is around 20 C, not to hot, not to cold.

I'm a big fan of the turtleneck and suit combo (for winter parties one of my favourite looks is combining my black cashmere turtleneck with a very dark purple velvet smoking jacket), and I think the polo shirt with a sports jacket or even a suit is fine in certain circumstances as well (one of my favourite movie outfits is the shiny suit and Italian knit shirt combo Ray Liotta wears in the scene in Goodfellas when they steal the guy's truck outiside of the diner), although you have to be careful not to look like an accountant on his day off. I like camp collar shirts, but ive never liked combining them with a jacket because the spread out collar over the lapel makes one look like a seventies pimp or at best a Scarface cosplayer imo. As for the t-shirt, that's a hard no from me- you only ever look like a bouncer or an out-of-touch celebrity wearing that. And the tank top is even worse! The only time it's acceptable to wear a tank top with a suit is if you're a 1950s Italian gangster who had to get dressed in a hurry because someone was coming to whack him lol. Again, I feel it's a look best reserved for try-hard celebs desperate to stand out on the red carpet. So, in conclusion, for me the acceptable ones are sweaters and turtlenecks and (some) polo shirts. I will also sometimes wear a more informal sports jacket (such as my battered old corduroy) over one of my print t-shirts (I'm a film nerd so I have a vast collection of t-shirts with obscure movie references printed on them), but I'll often put an unbuttoned shirt in between the two layers as otherwise I feel the jacket doesn't quite hang right.

Next time brother it would look a lot better if you just wore the crew neck sweater on it’s own under your suit or even if you threw a dress shirt on and put the crew neck sweater over it or wore the t shirt by itself under it. Layering them both looks a little off.

Regarding tank tops and a suit or sport coat - No! Just No. Just because celebrities have bad taste doesn’t mean that anyone else ought to follow their lead. And I thought T shirts under suits went out of fashion when “Miami Vice” went off the air. There is a difference between wearing a very fine knit pullover shirt and a T shirt.
Finally, wearing a grey T shirt under a sweater that allows the top of the T shirt to show looks like you just threw something on over what you wore during a workout at the gym. It can work, but I would avoid a T shirt that is a staple color for gym wear *and* you have to be careful how much of the T shirt is showing, or it looks sloppy.

  • @billyo54

I'm afraid this episode has been a failure IMO. How many times have I seen guests come on a chat show in a well appointed siut only to ruin the look with sneakers or t-shirt or tank top or polo shirt or a combination of all of the above. For sure a top of the range polo shirt with a nice linen sports coat can look smart, but anything other than a good quality dress shirt, or at least an OCBD with a siut makes everything look haphazardly thrown together. This is the reason I despair at most young people's idea of fashion.

Mate it gives character. I understand what you’re saying but this isn’t 1955 a classical suit and tie just isn’t appropriate for all occasions
