    I found last Saturday a made-in-England herringbone thick wool car coat in excellent condition, which I know has a 5K price tag, and the lady at the thrift store sold it to me for 10 euros. I gave it a good clean, and I feel fabulous wearing it, perfect mid-season coat in the lead-up to spring.

    My favourite piece at the moment is a luxurious mid-grey jacket with subtle red stripes by Etro which I thrifted for $10 (new cost was over $1K). It's just a perfect fit and cut for me, and makes me feel well put together. I generally wear it with a white dress shirt and navy flannel pleated trousers.

    My favourite item is a beautiful vintage double-breasted Horne Brothers dinner suit that I purchased for £90 on eBay last year. From the style of the label, it is late 1940s / early 1950s, and in pristine, barely used, condition. With only a minor alteration to the trousers, it fits me perfectly. The tailor who did the alteration is old school, and said he hadn't worked on such high quality material for over 40 years. He then revealed (from the upside down label inside the jacket pocket) that it is a bespoke suit that today would cost over £5,000 to make. Worn with traditional trouser braces (that's what we call them here in the UK), and all of the essential quality black tie accompaniments, down to the mirror polished black cap Oxfords, the suit looks the business and quite unlike the attire of any other gent at black tie events.

      I have a shawl collar dinner jacket that was tailor-made in 1963, I bought it at a church fair for 50p. It fits me over the shoulders but is a little wide around the middle. I've worn it a couple of times and if I was invited to another black tie event I think I'd have it taken in to make it perfect. You never know what you'll find until you look.

      @@Nick.Brough 50p?! What a bargain! Fit is everything, Nick; my alterations cost £30. Seek out a local tailor / alterations specialist and get the fit of the jacket altered to the perfection it deserves. It will make a world of difference and be money well spent.👍

    My most favourite is a waistcoat. There are so many kinds, materials, patterns, ... you look dapper instantly and :D nobody wears it (here in Europe). I wear some with a shirt almost throughout the year with a pocket square or pocketwatch chain and I recieved so many compliments, even it's quite vintage style it is timeless old money. When it's colder, I'll add some sportscoat or overcoat and that's just perfect then. Thank you for your channel.

    My favorite piece right now is a gray flannel chalk strip suit made by Brooks Brothers. I bought it of eBay and didn’t have to have any alterations done. I style it with a white shirt a neck tie to add a splash of color and an odd waistcoat. For shoes I wear black oxfords but I think I am going to try it with black Chelsea boots next time.

    Again, very well done. I don't think you can stress enough the importance of proper fit. A very nice inexpensive shirt from Charles Tyrwhitt or even a Costco Kirkland shirt is worth taking to a tailor if it can be altered to fit properly. A well-fitting Kirkland shirt is way better than an ill-fitting Brooks Brothers shirt any day. Moving or adding cuff buttons can make a big difference and is laughably cheap. This can be done by any laundry, but for serious alterations a gentleman has a tailor.

  • @don_kandon6006
    @don_kandon6006 9 месяцев назад +1

    I always thought of double monk straps, in oxblood/mocha/burgundy and museum calf as #1 dress shoes, as a statement piece and not looking like CAME TO WORK black oxfords. Like 6:06 those Chelsea boots, its in brown museum calf. Also Hatch Grain looks super cool (bumpy/lumpy pimple look like leather). Black oxfords should be reserved for important meetings, funerals, job interviews etc. The rest of ocassions- be a bit more playful, double monk straps, loafers etc. Damn those double monks at 6:25 is what im talking about. Those buckles are so nice, though never was a fan of cap toe, would rather have plain front. I hate medallions and broqinq. To me, black whole cut oxfords, and then double monk straps are 1-2 go/punch.
    Suede monk straps are straight up panty droppers, for example 196 artista from TLB mallorca.

    My favorite piece right now is the Inlet blazer from Faherty, which is basically an unstructured blazer / sweater that is perfect for Arizona winters. In summer, my favorite blazer is a navy linen model from Polo. While they are both blue blazers, they have a little more panache than my standard blue blazers with gold buttons (although I have one of those as well).

    Great video. Derbies are underrated, especially for odd jacket/trouser combos. Also, the boss would not wear worsted odd jackets! And oxford shoes, even with borguing, are to be reserved for suits!

  • @stephanesurprenant60
    @stephanesurprenant60 8 месяцев назад

    Two notes:
    1. What defines an Oxford is the closed lacing system, not the presence or not of broguing. You can also have different amounts of broguing -- and a subtle amount like just across a cap toe can allow you to more easily dress up and down the same pair which is great if you don't have many pairs of shoes yet. So, don't just say "brogues."
    2. You always neglect oxblood (burgundy) even though this brownish red color on shoes and boots really stand out in a good, elegant way against blues and grays. It can look terrific with dark wash jeans as an alternative to brown. And it's also usually dark enough that it can work to make an outfit appear very formal when needed.
