- CRUISE NEWS - WE WERE ALMOST CRUSHED ON OUR WAY TO THE CRUISE.
I often get asked how safe are cruise ships. Well I've never been as close to getting seriously hurt on a cruise ship as I was today just going from airport to Hotel.

For those of you who are wondering, yes I am a Travel Agent and I work with anyone in Canada and the United States :)
Don, seat belts are a lot like cruise insurance, far better to have it and not need it, than to need it and not have it
Exactly, well put!
The Marriott hotel is just across from the airport. It’s a nightmare to drive to if you haven’t been there!
We’ll be in the newark in 2 weeks, what ride share did you use?
As for the need for seatbelts, you also need a tranquilizer just to watch normal traffic! And a change of clothes if have a near miss?
Yes, and any bird can build a nest but it isn’t just anyone who can lay an egg…
@@john-brady but you probably can’t carry it onto the cruise ship anyway…..
im sorry brother i work next to newark airport and i deal with this everyday. im happy you made it safe and sound. Have a safe and fun cruise!!!
Don't these hotels have ADDRESSES? Give the driver a name and address.
They do . The fault was on them because like someone said up the hotels have different denominations like Marriot airoport, Marriot downtown etc etc
Welcome to Jersey driving. Thats why we have so many accidents! So glad you are safe.
My Wife and I were thinking of flying to the east coast for a holiday, and rent a car. Well, after hearing about what happened to Don, we will not be doing that.
They were in Brooklyn.
Just as bad I would think. Driving from NJ to Brooklyn
@@garymackenzie9125 Nah, it's not that bad. Only bad to those who haven't driven in Jersey or aren't familiar with how we all drive. Don't let that stop you. It's only up in the northern section of the state, near New York, where all the major highways converge and everyone is determined to get there as fast as they can.
Thank God we moved out of that loony bin!
@@georgettenorth2776 They were on the Turnpike going into the tunnels to Brooklyn (he didn't mention that, but it's one of the only ways to get to Brooklyn quickly--even if you have a crazy driver).
Thank God that you and your friends are safe. A lot of people pray for your health and safety regularly.
Don, you definitely have a guardian angel that stays with you 24/7/365!!! Whether guarding you and your health or your safety. Have a GREAT time on the group cruise. Maybe one day I will get to join y'all. Safe travels.
Oh my gosh! I’m so glad that the three of you are safe. I hope you reported the driver! Please enjoy your cruise and have lots of fun!
Miriam, we need you on all of these trips to make your incident reports.
🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣 The incident reporter.
The driver should be reported . There must have angels by you and the two big trucks. I’m so thankful you are all safe. It frightening listening you tell what was happening . You always should be alert to the traffic by you and be a good defensive driver .
Have a wonderful day tomorrow. 😇🙏❤️
THAT'S NEW JERSEY GLAD EVERYONE IS OK. ENJOY🎉🎉
AMEN! full of crazy Type-A drivers. If you can't drive in New Jersey or New York, then you can't drive at all.
Thats why i always know the address of the hotels I am planning my stay. Phew glad you and everyone are ok🚢😊
Whew!!Sooo glad everyone is o k . Talk about someone watching over you.😇
Don this is new jersey driving for you. Thank the lord you are all ok. Snart move you had you seatbelt on. You are having an adventure for sure l. Stay safe. Enjoy your cruise. ❤
Yup, driving New Jersey style. You have to be aggressive to drive here (but we moved out to a calmer driving experience, however we both grew up there and drove there, so we know exactly what you're saying).
Don, my late husband and I had a similar experience. We were on our way to a sit up MRI, on a major highway doing 70 mph along with the rest of the traffic. We were in the slow lane on the 4 lane highway. I was on the phone with the facility and I’m watching a 18 wheeler pulling up on my side. He had his own lane up to the highway. I realized almost immediately that he wanted our lane, not his designated lane! I yelled to my husband, and told the person on the phone “we’re going to die”. We missed each other by 1/4 of an inch. It was a miracle…..I could actually feel his breath on my face. I knew that the Lord was watching over the 3 of us!!
I'm so glad you are all safe!!! Make sure you report that driver! Have yourself a safe and a great vacation!!!
Welcome to NJ, although it doesn't sound like you had a van-tastic day, LOL!!! Wishing you sunny skies and calm seas on your cruise.
Yeah, what a nice "hello" Jersey gave him, huh?
Jersey driving is no joke, the Turnpike can be terrifying for sure and add to that the heavy rain we had yesterday just tops it off. Glad you're all ok!
The Turnpike is its own raceway where everyone is out to drive faster than the next guy.
Sounds like you got the New Jersey welcome. Glad you're all ok.
LOL. "Welcome to New Jersey...now go home."
New Jersey roads & drivers were the most terrifying parts of my New York journey. Glad ya'll are safe!
Hey Don, welcome to Newark New Jersey and New York. This is normal activity. I’m glad you guys are all safe. Have a great cruise. Good luck on the yes, no game
Yes it is. Turnpike, GW bridge, Lincoln and Holland Tunnels, Parkway, Rte. 3, Rte. 1, Rte. 18 and the interstates--all crazy aggressive drivers.
How scary!!! I am glad you are OK!! Your trip is going to be great! Enjoy!!
That’s a freighting story ! Have a wonderful cruise😊
Another option is to take PATH from Newark Penn station to World Trade Centre, take the 1 to South Ferry station (usually for staten island) and walk about 10 minutes north-east along shore (bike/pedestrian path) to Pier 11 ferry terminal.
True, but carrying luggage and walking that far? #1- You look lost. #2- You look like a tourist, so you stick out like a sore thumb and #3-You are now an easy target for getting robbed.
In spite of the harrowing experience Don had, his way was a lot safer.
There are 3 Courtyards in and around Newark and the airport. Marriott's website does have different designators for each: Downtown, Newark Liberty International Airport, and Elizabeth.
Yes, but Don being from Canada probably didn't realize that, although it needed to be checked to avoid this type of problem.
Wow Don!! That was close!! Be safe and have a great trip. Love and hugs to you all.❤
New York drivers are crazy one. Glad you are fine there was an angel watching over all of you including the other drivers.
Glad you're all okay Don. Hope you reported him. Have a great time!
I’m so glad you’re ok Don! I’m from NJ I know exactly what you’re talking about that is super scary! Everybody is a hurry for nothing!
Never turn your head if you think you will be rearended
Why did you not have the correct Hotel address on your confirmation Email to make sure you were going to the correct location?
Wow! And I thought the 401 was bad ... I'm from this area and I'm still here ... I don't know what time of day you're talking about, but if it was during rush hour, it's not a complete surprise to hear about the antics on the road. Glad you're all safe! And if you're ever coming this way again, and you need better guidance for where to stay, I can help!
Welcome to Newark. I flew almost a million miles out of that airport. I don't do it anymore and I don't miss it not one bit!
Glad you were OK Don!!!! ❤
Don, you’re describing an everyday driving experience around the NY metropolitan region… glad you came out of it in one piece! Bon Voyage…
Stay safe Don!
How scary!!! Glad you are all ok.
I'm glad you're safe! Hope you reported the driver to the shuttle company.
Wow!! Scary. Glad you guys are all ok.
Welcome to NJ. At least you survived.
That's one heck of a scare you really didn't need to have. Thank goodness you are all safe. Enjoy your cruise
Don, welcome to new Jersey driving and roads. One of the many reasons We relocated South.
Same here. Formerly from Jersey, too. Raised at the Jersey Shore. Moved out 13 years ago, and when we go back, we remember how to drive there, which is to say aggressively. May not be a nice way to drive, but if you aren't capable, then you can't drive there; at least that's the way they look at it.
Welcome to Jersey!
That’s some story, Don! I’m glad you’re okay.
Oh good grief!!! What a scary encounter! That driver should not be driving people anywhere! So grateful and glad you are all ok! Looking forward to seeing your cruise news!
Glad everyone is alright Don! ❤️
WOW!!!! That shuttle driver needs to be fired.
If you haven't already, you should call the shuttle company and report the driver.
I stayed at the Courtyard Marriott in Newark by the airport last October. Just be thankful you weren't driving! I've never seen such a circular mess of highways, on ramps and off ramps! Looks like they just threw spaghetti! Glad you're safe Don!
Highways? They all think they're racetracks up there. it is very confusing for those who have never had to drive those insane roads.
I would’ve been saying some prayers during that moment. Yikes! I’m surprised no one yelled at the driver. Glad you all are ok. Have a safe trip!
Oh Don I am glad you are ok and safe thank God
Whew!!! I'm glad you are all OK after that. Enjoy your cruise vacation, Don!
I live in NJ. Honestly, this is just another day in NJ. Welcome! 🤐. Glad you're safe!
Yup. And we are SO glad that us former Jerseyans--born and raised--moved out 13 years ago.
Glad you all are ok typical Jersey drivers, that's all I can sat seatbelts all the way don.
Yup. It's a wonder they gave all of us driver's licenses.
Thank goodness you are all OK
OMG!!!! I would report the driver. That can be deadly!
Glad you are safe! Go have fun!
That’s Newark….and that’s NJ drivers…glad you’re safe….😊😊
Boy do we get a bad rap! However, if you can drive in Jersey and New York, then you can drive anywhere.
Sorry Don, we don’t envy you. We have been on the Caribbean Princess 5 times! We could give tours.
You want to say your prayers tonight for sure. Close call. The Good Lord was with you folks....
Don, I think you need to let the hotel management know how their driver is driving!!
Yup! That is driving in New York Area! Always A Very Scary Situation!!!!
So glad you are ok!
😮😮 I can't believe that you as a travel agent did not realize that there are many different types of Marriott hotels, and maybe several with the same name near a big airport. When I am booking, I always look at Google maps to see exactly where I am going, and I print out a copy of the registration form with the hotels exact address. I always use my frequent flyer/Hotel number when booking and often book free rooms. Similarly when I get the shuttle make sure I'm on the correct one going to the correct place😢If unsure I ask the driver. Really I am shocked that a frequent traveler such as yourself has not learned all this years ago.
My husband drives a tanker trailer, he often tells how people in cars cut him off & how dangerous that can be.
Please all drivers realize trucks cannot stop or turn like you can in your car. Be extra cautious when passing them even with all the mirrors & added safely equipment you car is much smaller & the mistake you make thinking trucks can turn or stop like you in your car isn’t true at all. That one time you cut one off but misjudge your distance could turn into your last or you could be the cause of someone else loosing their life.
Those trucks jackknife quickly & if the driver isn’t experienced it could be your last ride, you know how your car slides & on wet pavement of course makes it worse.
Don you need to report that driver before he causes an accident that ruins many lives. You were lucky but someone else will not be so lucky.
Those puddle jumpers can be frightening. I avoid them when I can! Have a wonderful cruise!
I agree with @miriamfossett2558 , I hope you reported that driver. That was absolutely ridiculous!!!! enjoy your cruise!!!
Close call......scary.....so glad you are alright. Praise God!
What you really need to do is to give them the exact address of the hotel you're going to, which I'm sure you're going to do from now on. They have no idea.
Cab would have solved it at the beginning when the first mistake was made by bringing you to your correct holel.
Yikes! May God bless you with safe travels. 🛟🛳️❤️🙏🏻
Thankfully you are safe Don.
I had a similar experience years ago in Washington DC. I was booked into a Holiday Inn and the driver took me to the wrong Holiday Inn. Fortunately, they had open rooms and they changed my reservation to the Holiday Inn where the driver took me. It all worked out in the end.
What a welcome to New York!! Glad that you are all safe and sound in your hotels!
Glad you all are okay! Agree the hotels should adjust their name. Have fun in the cruise!!
Don, I just read that customers booking Delta vacations through their travel agents no longer receive their sky miles.
Thank you Lord for your mercy..so glad ❤
Omg, do I need to send you both a giant roll of bubble wrap so you can wrap yourselves up to be safe.😂😂 Please be safe on this cruise Don and that goes for you too Tony.😊
Lol Newark is my airport. I'm taking a United flight to Montreal in November and London in March.
Don i went on my first cruise last week, it was just 2 nights but it was absolutely wonderful to get away, currently planning my next one. I wouldnt have been equipped to do it without your videos, thank you!
Also, i always wear my seat belt, got the coach back from the repositioning cruise and i got on and put my seatbelt on as usual, turns out the coach driver was a bit bonkers, most of the coach passengers had their seatbelts on by the end 😂
Glad you are all safe!! Crazy how fast things can happen/change in the blink of an eye! Enjoy your cruise!!!😎
Note to self... Only travel with Don on a cruise ship.
Glad everyone is safe. Hope you guys have a great time, can't wait to hear about it 😀
Welcome to NJ 😮. We have a lot of crazy truck drivers!! They don’t care about anyone but themselves. Glad you had your seatbelt on!! So many trucks in the area because of the Ports.
So people who drive cars are PERFECT like you?
The Turnpike has to be the worst for tractor trailers, but then commerce has to keep moving...
@@Jameschewingfoil Not very nice to say to that person because that's not what they were implying at all.
Sounds about right when driving in Jersey, they pretty much give every and anybody a drivers license. Took that cruise a few years back, check out the Bay of Fundy and the Alexander Keith brewery, both great places to visit.
Welcome to Newark New Jersey!!!
Omg. Im glad all of you are safe. Enjoy your cruise.
An unexpected adventure. Welcome to the NY area. I'm familiar with driving there, it's crazy.
My husband is a volunteer firefighter and yes, seatbelt’s save lives!
Oh my word, thank God you had your seatbelt on, I always put mine on too. Thank goodness you’re safe and sound. Enjoy your cruise.
Happy you all are ok Don. Yes, always wear your seat belt it save lives. Tell ur driver to slow down and that he’s driving unsafe! It’s all your lives at risk.
Welcome to New Jersey!!!
Don, you are an amazing person! No matter what the problem/dilemma/health issue is, you always have a great and lighthearted attitude!! I sooo admire that about you! And there is no doubt that your Guardian Angel 👼 is always with you. Thank God you are safe and now can enjoy your cruise. Wishing you calm waters and lots of sunshine 🌞!!! ❤
Welcome to typical North Jersey Traffic. What you described is normal for the roads around the airport.
Right. Grew up at the Jersey Shore, but traveled up north thousands of times in our lives. Moved out of Jersey 13 years ago. don't miss the traffic at all.
Getting to an airport hotel at Newark is horrific! There is only one pick up point and it’s out in no man’s land. It takes forever at the best of times. I’m sorry you had such a weird crazy experience.
So happy y'all were safe! 😮
Don, it's a good thing that you're there to protect Tony and the gals. Having an experienced leader brings reassurance during travel stress. Enjoy your journey.
Wow. Not even an apology from the driver? Glad you're all OK.
No apology because the driver didn't think he needed to. You get used to the insane driving if you are in the New Jersey-New York area.
If you're referring to Newark Liberty International Airport--forget it. There are a few dozen hotels in that area and to make it more confusing, there's more than one of each branded hotel. Sure does make traveling interesting, doesn't it?
So very glad that all of you are safe, but in that area, NEVER report the driver--you could end up in a really bad place.
OH--almost forgot. The driver that was all over the place--even while it's raining? That's normal Jersey driving: on the Parkway, on the Turnpike, on the Interstate roads--it's so normal to us that we don't even bother thinking about the other guy--we're all on autopilot and VERY aggressive driving.
However--we moved out of New Jersey 13 years ago and every single time we go back, it's still the same insane driving on all the roads.
Oh I’m glad you’re ok. That terrified me just listening to you😮
Wow!!!!! Glad you are all safe!!! you need to write a book about all the travel mishaps that you have had! It’s always something when you travel, it seems like
Have a great Cruise, stay safe....🚢🛳⛴
Tip: know the street address and city of the hotel you need to go to. Tell driver that information.
Glad your all okay Don. Have fun and enjoy.
Shaken but not stirred!! So glad you are not hurt... the universe know we need you!!
Welcome to jersey/nyc area driving. We have some aggressive drivers. Glad you're safe though. I hope you guys reported him.
If you can drive in Jersey and New York, you can drive anywhere.
