Is Your "Expired" Medication Safe to Take in an Emergency?

  • The answer is more complicated than you might think. So the scenario is, there's a big event of some time affecting your ability to get new medications off the shelf, or you're stuck in the woods with what's on you, and you need to take some medications. Is it safe to do so if they're extremely expired? I dove into some military and medical journals and other studies to get the answer.

    Upset stomach and diarrhea have so many causes that antibiotics could just as much kill off beneficial gut flora as do anything helpful, or nothing if the cause was norovirus. For cholera specifically, oral rehydration solution with both salts and sugars is common treatment but the solution has to be prepared carefully or it risks exacerbating the diarrhea.

    As a diabetic I’ve always wondered how long my insulin would last in a hunker down situation

      The general number is 1 month if below 86 Fahrenheit but degrades at some rate above 59F
