[UPDATE] As some viewers pointed out my DATA is not represented 100% accurately in the video. Since the VPS CPUs have a varying number of cores, for a better "apples to apples" comparison, we'd need to divide the score based on the core number and calculate it PER CORE. I'm adding the updated score tables below. It's still not 100% accurate way to judge the providers, but more info is more info :). Ofcource, this doesn't change the values all that much. Bandwidth is usually a non-issue in 2025 (unless you're a MASSIVE site. Like Wikipedia/Facebook/Instagram/etc). Transfer speeds have gone up, file compression has gotten better, and network infrastructure has gotten cheaper. Most providers offer UNMETERED bandwidth (like ScalaHosting) meaning it's unlimited unless you're very obviously abusing the system and just siphoning resources that don't accurately represent your website load. In other cases, you can easily buy more bandwidth (like DigitalOcean) very cheap like $0.01 per GB of data transferred if you go above your 1TB / 2TB or w/e limits. I've never had issues with bandwidth even tho my website gets medium-high traffic every day. Just use a CDN / good compressions and you're good to go :)
Man your content is gold, you got yourself a sub. I have a question as I have opened a Web Dev Studio, what will be best for clients, shared hosting or VPS hosting?

Hello Emit. I think it would be great, for most of us, non-techies, if you made a video explaining which third-party services/apps/software (SSL certificates, LiteSpeed, cPanel, Malware scanning, etc, what other services am I forgetting?) ARE NECESSARY to build a server from zero (DigitalOcean, Vultr, RunCloud, etc) and that has all the tools I mentioned before (SSL certificates, LiteSpeed, cPanel, etc.) that Managed Cloud/WordPress servers (Kinsta, ScalaHosting, WPEngine, etc) have. Thanks.
If you want to do it for free. SSL - its a free service using lets encrypt. Litespeed - they have OpenLiteSpeed which is a free version of the software you can install on the server. Control panel - there are free options like CloudPanel/CyberPanel that can be installed. These 3 (SSL/control panel/web server) are enough to build a server from zero thats functioning. The trickiest part is configuring and setting up your own email server ( to a point that I dont even recommend doing it) and just use something like GSuite from Google instead. I have a similar video already made going through the steps of configuring your own VPS ruclips.net/video/oJN3wNsB2kM/видео.html As for malware scanners, the best scanner is common sense :) and after all of these are taken care of, you can set up a free CDN from Cloudflare and you pretty much recreated a Managed server
my main criteria is storage, i just subscribed to a 40go vps and realized my video library is 419go size. unfortunately on vps each additional go worth the price of gold.
I fully understand what your saying. And ive tried doing "weighted" tests based on core counts before. They simply didnt match up at all with "real world" loading speed tests. There might be multipe factors to this, but the most likely is overcrowding on servers. Most providers virtualize them into usually 2 or 4 virtual CPUs for a single core. So you dont really get a "core" to yourself and multicore performance is what determines the quality of the server overall. I know it sounds retarded, but the reality is They're always oversell and look for ways to give you less for more
@@Emit.Reviews I understand, but here the combined multithreaded performance is compared, which makes no sense at all. You can not expect the provider to sell the same amount of vCPU on a 12 core CPU as an 18 core CPU. Comparing the total theoretical performance of these CPUs is simply not relevant as you are buying individual threads (or fractions of threads). You can generally expect that buying one vCPU on a 3.8 GHz 12 core CPU will outperform buying one vCPU on a 2.4 GHz 36 core CPU. Even though the latter has a much higher combined multithreaded performance. Of course, CPU generation and over-provisioning, if any, also comes into play. For any true comparison you need to understand the level of over-provisioning (several providers offer dedicated threads or cores) and the single threaded performance.
What Im looking for mostly is simply what type of CPU they tend to use for the servers on the cheapest plan. It tells a lot in itself, as you can get much newer stuff for the same price. But ill try to think of a better way to test it
Wow, loved the breakdown in this video! 🧐👏 You really dived deep into the myths around VPS hosting-very informative and balanced. I’ve been using Utho's VPS myself, and it’s been fantastic for my needs, so i thought i should tell that here too hehe. Although totally agree with the importance of performance and reliability that you highlighted. Keep up the great work! 🔥💻
How important is cpu for running a simple server or database? Plenty of servers were ran in 2014 and they worked fine. I don’t think RUclips was that much slower in 2014 compared to now..
You can still run plain html sites on a laptop if you want. Problem is a lot of website creation tools, CMS and database tools have gotten a lot more heavy and complex compared to previously. This bloat is what increases the need for powerful hardware.
